A full size concept for the streets. Here is a speed up time-lapse of the JZ Cobra - a Ferrari/Lamborghini hybrid Concept car for those that requested it. This JZ Cobra Concept was designed and built using clay sculpting or clay moulding to get the shape. The JZ Cobra concept uses a Toyota Supra chassis to build upon and therefore is sometimes referred to as a reshell. All clay work and design done by Russell Dennis. JZ COBRA CONCEPT
Total hours to design this concept and build it ready for paint was 1545 hours. That is all the exterior work from the front all the way to the back and includes all the design work and all the clay sculpting and all the fiberglass and carbon work.
If you like this design I can build a copy for anyone interested. I made a set of moulds for this build and so can send you a fiberglass Shell/body so that you can build one or I can do the whole job for you.

the supra was 10 times better looking than the final product... my thoughts
@S1KRYD
@S1KRYD 9 жыл бұрын
We all have a different taste in different things. I had estimated that 80 percent of people would love this design and 20 percent would hate it. When I look at the likes to dislikes ratio I find that my prediction was right. Lamborghini and Ferrari have never been able to get above 85 percent, and so I think I did not do too badly for a little fala in an obscure town building his own car in his small shed with no formal training what so ever. As for using the supra for a donor car - what else would one use? It has an excellent motor and gear box that is hard to beat even by the exotics. It also has a good over all shape to start with for this kind of work. But the standard Toyota supra is very ugly. It was only after the veilside body kit was invented for it that it became a good looking car. Since then the Toyota supra body has been the most modified Jap car ever with over 100 different kits made for it.

Yes that is normal food grade tin foil. It is used to keep the wet clay separate from the fiberglass materials. I have a video up called "How to make a panel from scratch step by step" which will explain everything a bit slower in a step by step fashion.

It goes very well thanks. It is only 450HP at the moment but as you would know it is relatively easy to increase to 600HP or so with the 2JZ vvti. The rims were all I could get in the configuration I needed, but you are right they look pretty good anyway. I think it is the large lips that make them unusual and very cool. It gives it a hot rod look.

NOW I SEE the problem with Ford, Chevy, etc...they don't have you working for them. Trust me my friend, your design is OFF THE HOOK! you are multi- talented and it's a damned SHAME you're NOT working for a major or custom car company. If I owned a custom car company, you would be hired in a second. Just a thought for you. Build a portfolio, show what you can do like you did here, then get some investors and raise money for your OWN car company...you would make the other car companies LOOK STUPID! It's easy to raise money with the right people, I've done it twice, once for a film once for an invention, total of 80K$. You just keep doing what your doing and don't listen to the asses out there, because if they say anything negative about you, I'll SLAP EM! Take care brother...you did a fantastic job, really great...oh, and I loved your music by the way.

A supra was used as the donor car. The Supra was an excellent donor car because of the high HP that the supra engine puts out and because of its streamlined shape. It is now an exotic called the JZ Cobra. The name comes from the shape of the front end which looks like a King Cobras head.

S1KRYD...I will be building my own wide body kit for my car here soon and have some question's... 1...have you ever used foam in your sculptures?I was thinking this would be a fast and easy filler of larger area's... I planned to do the foam only for the large spaces and spread the clay over the area's and form my shapes...if I lay the aluminum and tape over the area after the clay..will the fiberglass resin still get to it enough to ruin the design? 2...how did you match the left with the right? For example:completing the left side skirt or left bumper...is there a technique to reversing that area?
@S1KRYD
@S1KRYD 9 жыл бұрын
Sounds good. Would like to see what you come up with. Yes you can use the foam to fill in the large areas and then put your clay on top of this in order to sculpt your new design. As for getting your design symmetrical on the left and right - have a look at my new 90 min video hat explains this process in detail. Let me know if you have any further questions :)

@S1KRYD

Yes the stuff car company's use is super expensive and is out of reach for 99% of us. So I turned to potters clay and come up with a method that works well. No issues if you don't let the potters clay to dry out. After you have finished for the day cover it in food wrap until you are ready to work on it again.

We'll done for the effort, big respect but you needed to spend more time on the surface quailty in the clay, that's why all the highlights are puddling on the side of the car. Do you have any clay modelling experience? Have you took fibreglass moulds off it or painted the clay?
@S1KRYD
@S1KRYD 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks. The idea is not to get the surface of the clay perfect. This is only potters clay and we do not make a female mould from this like you would if using Y2 clay or equivalent. The idea here is to make a rough panel which you then sand to perfection. It takes more work to do it this way but the average Joe has more time than money and cannot afford 10s of thousands of dollars for the types of clays that car manufacturers use. You cannot paint potters clay because it is wet. To separate the wet clay from the fiberglass materials a layer of tin foil covers the clay first. Then a layer of packaging tape is put over this. Doing this causes imperfections on the surface by its very nature. Then the fiberglass materials are applied. I have much clay modelling experience. But the idea is to bring this kind of clay work to the average Joe and this can only be done by using cheep materials and skill. This is why I have pioneered the potters clay method.
