RIP David. All I knew of him was from his voice. It brought a calm and firm sense of right and a hope for ultimate justice during the dark and terrible war he covered. I missed him when he was away on assignments or much needed breaks. I miss his voice now.

I sit beside the fire and think of all that I have seen, of meadow-flowers and butterflies in summers that have been; Of yellow leaves and gossamer in autumns that there were, with morning mist and silver sun and wind upon my hair. I sit beside the fire and think of how the world will be when winter comes without a spring that I shall ever see. For still there are so many things that I have never seen: in every wood in every spring there is a different green. I sit beside the fire and think of people long ago, and people who will see a world that I shall never know. But all the while I sit and think of times there were before, I listen for returning feet and voices at the door.

What a fitting, sublime and radiant service for David Knowles. In his brief 32 years, he left us with an enduring inspiration. He lit a lamp on a path so that others, so emboldened, could follow.

For some Americans war in Ukraine is still very much on our minds… There’s also a shocking large segment that doesn’t understand why it’s important or what the cost of not supporting Ukraine would be. I already have my reasons for not wanting a second Trump term, but the heighten global security issuesregarding Israel and Taiwan just make it even more terrifying that he might be back in the oval office instead of a prison cell

The grief of the relatives that have lost loved ones to this war at every Ukrainian & Russian funeral, is no less intense and sorrowful than that of David Knowles. Prolonging this avoidable war is not a worthy cause.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said he is ready to do everything possible to restore relations between the EU and Russia, if the Ukrainian conflict ends during his government's tenure. "If the war ends during the mandate of this government, I will do everything possible to restore economic and standard relations with the Russian Federation, I will do my best for this. The European Union needs Russia, and of course the Russian Federation needs the EU," Fico said as quoted by the Teraz portal. The Slovak Prime Minister noted that any conflict "ends at the negotiating table." According to him, Bratislava will also take care to maintain "normal, friendly relations" with Kiev. Fico believes that the thesis about the impossibility of a military solution to the Ukrainian problem "is confirmed by the statements of many politicians who are already talking about compromises."

Ukraine doesn’t have to join NATO, all that is needed is a defense pact between Ukraine and Nato or a pact with Britain, France, Germany and other willing nations.

Dont bang drum when its noise but not music. Credibility suffers when Vuhledar loss is tucked away at the end as if its insignificant. Nato will fight Russia to the last Ukrainian. Russia more committed to winning in Ukraine than Nato & without Nato troops Ukraine cannot stop Russia from winning. Better for Ukraine to lose Crimea & 4 provinces (which is already lost) & be a neutral buffer & hv peace to rebuild, rather than keep fighting, getting killed, destroyed, & likely losing Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Mykolaiv, Odessa. Israel Iran conflict is bad news, as more sophisticated weapons were prioritized for Israel last time, Israel aid was cleared bipartisanly but Ukraine was hanging. Additionally, oil price surge will help Russia. & imagine Trump says he is Putin's friend in front of Zelensky. Trump will tell Ukraine to take the loss & be neutral. He isnt a supporter of Nato expansion. Trump was clear he wants to cut budgets for Ukraine to focus on Southern border. If Harris wins she will try to help, but she will get less support. Mearsheimer shldv been listened to.

Ukraine loses effective line of defence all the way to Kyiv Military expert Oleg Glazunov believes that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have lost the last effective line of defense on the way to Kyiv. "The capture of Vuhledar is, in fact, a turning point. I even wonder how Ukraine is going to continue to hold back its defense, (…) Ukraine does not have the reserves that it needs to hold back the offensive," the expert believes. Ukraine has also lost a major logistics center for supplying the army with weapons, ammunition, medicine and food. About 18 kilometers east of Vuhledar there is a major railway line that connects Donetsk with Mariupol, Crimea, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions. With the cutting off of the Vuhledar salient, the Russian troops will be able to use the railway from Donetsk to Mariupol. It is believed that the Ukrainian forces left Vuhledar in order to preserve personnel, military equipment and take up positions for further action. According to another version, the Armed Forces of Ukraine retreated due to the incapacity of the units. "After two years of fighting without rotations or rest, we turned into a non-combat unit, the brigade was reduced to zero," a man named only as Viktor, a representative of the headquarters of one of the battalions of the 72nd separate mechanized brigade said. According to him, recruits would arrive once in every quarter - poorly trained men over 50 years old. As a result, out of 350 people in his battalion, up to 30 fighters survived.
