Dressage is hard, and often we can lose sight of the progress that we’re making in the day to day work. It’s a long journey, and a lot of blood, sweat, and tears can go into the training process. But don’t worry - with time and patience, you can and will reach your goals!
So, in this week’s video, I wanted to give you some inspiration for your riding and give you the special treat of seeing a brief trot-work schooling session with my Grand Prix horse, Harvey. I’ve had him since he was five, and though he’s always shown talent, training him was not always linear or easy. As a youngster, he was very hot, and often there were times when I just had to take a step back and give him more time. Now he's 11, and his energy is much easier to handle and channel and it is especially fun since he knows all the Grand Prix movements! Harvey really is a very special horse and I feel honored each day that I get to ride him.
As I mentioned before, training horses takes years of training and patience, but in the end, it is all worth it! Probably my favorite part of Dressage is the bond that you develop with your horse over the years and years of training. It is an incredible feeling when you and your horse move together as one. I hope you enjoy watching Harvey's trot work! We’re currently working on transitions between Piaffe and Passage as well as within the trot, and he’s really starting to get the hang of things! Remember, while talent does help, this is the result of training for the last six years!
I hope this session gives you some inspiration helps you see how when you make a plan and have the patience, you can and will reach your goals!
Happy Riding!
Amelia

It's so crazy, I remember when in your videos Harv and Kensie were young horses and really green, but the work being so correct has proven to get him there at a fairly young age and I know K is not far behind! So nice to see your string becoming mostly upper level horses - you deserve it and have MADE THEM ALL!!! Incredibly impressive and lovely to watch. Can't wait to see what happens next.

I’d love if you talked a bit about contact as well. I noticed he’s behind the bit most of the time but he still seems very engaged and connected behind. I *really* don’t mean that as a criticism, I defer to your expertise! But I’d love to learn more about your work with him and take on that topic. :)

Thank you for your comment! This is always something I am working on with him and sometimes when I am trying to showcase something in a video there are moments where we are not totally correct.

I would like to learn as well! I understood that if a horse may be behind the vertical but his neck is not curled ( overflex) should not be negative? Please correct me idk if I explained myself correctly . Im from spain

Harvey is a so beautiful and talented horse. You became, due to all your hard work a perfect team of Grand Prix winners ! 😍👌🏻🏆✨🏇🏻 You can do marvellous dressage trots. I 'm sorry I understand nothing about it, dressage is not my specialty. I only see the beauty of it. 😊 Now I' m so sorry for Harvey my dear Amelia ! I was reading all your email on Saturday morning and was very sad to heart so bad news for him, for you too dear Amelia.😥 I hope with all my heart Harvey will go better soon again. I wish him to be fit again like on this great video where he seems to enjoy what he 's doing with you . He is such a real athlete ! 😊🐴❤️ You take, yourself, your family and your team so good care of him. Harvey feels your love, that 's certainly helps him. I wish you to win over his pain and his sickness. I wish you lots of courage for you both. Lots of love. 🙏🏻🤗💝🐎💫

Hi Amelia, is there a tip to pull the inside rein when up from the saddle in rising trot to make the horse on the bite? ❤I heard it from a friend. Is that true ?
