Great work dude! It's so validating to see someone else have problems with the things I had problems with. The Simulink PID sample rate caused a bad static fire for me, and switching to a torque controller is totally the right call. Congrats again on all this, and godspeed!

Love this! As a non-rocket-lander, I'd enjoy learning more about simulation. For example, I'd like to hear more about needing to "match the update frequency of the simulink block to the loop timing".

Mark, this thee most AWESOME subject to learn about! I just randomly watched a short, and I was instantly hooked! Thank you! I’m already learning a lot just by watching. I’m really appreciative of your work and time! I’m just stunned right now! I love your Chanel.

I know this video is older now, but a note about your MOSFET turning on - you should consider (in future applications) to use a gate driver circuit. Typically it's one BJT with a few resistors, but it's WAY more reliable in supplying charge to the gates. I use them for IGBTs and fets that have a VGS higher than microcontroller pin voltage output, but for time critical activation, gate drivers would allow you charge up the gate faster than a flimsy microcontroller pin.

I definitely appreciate the suggestion and will look into it. I’m by no means an EE and really like getting feedback to make things better, thank you!

Congratulations with your great project! It's a huge accomplishment. I would like to ask how did you come up with such a name for your rocket? It seems of Polish roots which makes me proud!

Cool! I am waiting to find out how you figured out landing timing :) Some thoughts about MOSFETs: gate resistors a very helpful not only to limit gate current but also to suppress oscillations. The gate trace has some inductance and together with a gate (a capacitor) it works as a oscillator, and instead of just opening, the gate current starts going back and forth. Resister helps to kill this effect. Also, your MOSFETs are huge :) you can probably go with a tiny like 2*2 or 3*3 mm package that can still sustain 20+ amps. And it will probably have much less 'total gate charge' that also good.

I recall coming across something like that online called a "current hammer effect" but I wasn't sure enough about the truth of that to actually add it to the video. Thank you for clarifying that, it's been bugging me for quite a while! The timing to the landing is really cool, I am quite proud of it. Stay tuned 😎

This is so awesome! I'm trying to tackle the same challenge and build my own! However, I am having issues with the mpu6050 in a vertical orientation and suffering from crazy gimbal locks using dmp. Do you have resources to combat or look into this? I'm not the strongest programmer but I want to learn!
@Project-Horizon11 ай бұрын
Use quaternions to calculate orientation as they don't suffer from gimbal lock. You can then convert to Euler angles and feed them back into your PID controller. The below library utilizes gyroscopic rates and quaternions then converts to Euler angles to use. I think it'll help you, I haven't used it myself, but have heard good things. I use a Frankensteined code that works well for me, but isn't polished up enough to release to open source. github.com/peregrine-developments/Orientation

@Project-Horizon11 ай бұрын
I use a good amount of tacky flux under the BGA then use a hotplate to get the board up to reflow temp. I'll use a heat gun on the BGA from above and a temperature gun so I know when the chip is at the correct temperature per the chip datasheet then remove everything from heat. It's not so bad, I was honestly intimidated at first, but I've had 100% success rate this way so far.
