Why are people saying "kids"? The students in the film are clearly 17 and 18 year olds, not kids. Self reliance is contrary to todays self entitled and dependant society. When I turned 18 I voted for the first time as an independent. When I turned 30 I became a Republican, because I finally realized that I have always been self reliant, and the party always believed in self reliance. Actually, I do rely on someone, God Almighty, and that's it!

Hmmm do they even have students read Emerson’s Self Reliance anymore? Or Thomas Paine’s Common Sense a great treatise against monarchy or what about The Age of Reason? These are the great authors that affected as he said the foundation of our way of life

Self-reliance doesn't seek to blame. It costs a teacher nothing to suggest students read and study particular essays, does it? Or a parent.

#3 is the key "Know where you're going" They ACT as if they know where earth is headed. Destination is unknown, there is no why. They have you chasing, pursuing happiness and happiness comes from within.

This video should be an instruction film for parents, not kids. The parents are the ones who made them co-dependent and then complain and get mad when their co-dependent kid grows up to be co-dependent adults.

Schools don't push Ralph Waldo Emerson anymore. Great American author of the renowned book SELF RELIANCE...and other essays. We had to read it in high school.
