The issue is that she is constantly comparing herself to others, linking her self-worth with her academics. Maybe upbringing even played into that. She studies because she “knows she’s better” than the other people. And her insecurity makes any critique of her attitude much harder to take and use. You can see that when the guy called her a “snob”, it really hurt her, and that she caught a glimmer of the truth before looking to rationalize it. Poor kid.

I am an older gen Z born in the 90's. Sometimes I look at my generation and I feel very sad. I wish I could have known what it used to be like. I grew up in a rough household without much family. I was isolated a lot from other people all my life, and this time of year I can't help but feel cheated. I hope my generation will hold onto their families while they have them. Today I don't have a lot. I graduated university at the top of my class, but I never really celebrated or even walked. I no longer have a car due to my old one's retirement due to safety concerns and I my phone's screen no longer works, and I can not afford a new one yet. I am struggling to find a job in my field and my only enjoyment now are currently books and older films. I am grateful for them though, I'm grateful for things like ac in the summer and warm water to shower with, as well as having food on the table and a roof over my head despite all the hardship. In terms of family, I only have a partner and a cat now, but I will always cherish them as my family forever. They have my whole heart, and that will never change.
