I can't wait to try these. I listened to the first lesson in my car on my way to work. A tenor player who holds a bass trombone, that's me. Thank you, Mr. Markey, for sharing your gift with all of us. Your playing is remarkable, both on tenor and bass!

I think it is really amazing that you are teaching everyone this technique. I know a lot of professional trombone players that don't have as secure low register and even high register as you, and this is the missing link. Most of them don't even know how to fix it. this is the answer!

Thanks! This is just one avenue towards developing one’s low register, and there can be more to it than this. But it’s a good baseline and starting point, and I think helpful for many. Thanks for the encouragement!

I"ve always wondered how some trombonists are able to sound so consistent and their sound is so rich and stable while maintaining color. After doing these exercises I now understand. I feel like my embouchure is a lot more secure after practicing these glisses. When I go back to my regular playing I notice how drastically I move my embouchure sometimes. So I will need to do these a lot in order to remember how to play the right way. Thank you for this, I'm going to become a much better player. Even after only a week and a half I'm noticing a positive difference.

I see I am puffing my cheeks. Not a lot, not Dizzy, but a bit. Now trying to bring in corners and control that. Not really aware of that before.

Really valuable and generous videos Mr Markey thank you! Do you extend an exercise like this in both directions?
@markeybone
@markeybone Ай бұрын
If with both directions you mean to the upper register, there are different but similar things we can do. But that’s for another series!

Terrific video. The nose breathing is not working for me (well, I can do a couple of glisses, then I'm bonking). What is the purpose of the nose breathing? Is it be efficiency of air and embouchure OR to ensure no change of embouchure between notes?
@markeybone
@markeybone Ай бұрын
The purpose is, as you said, to keep as much consistency in the embouchure. Taking away breathing from the corners and instead breathing through the nose does just that. I find having two full quarter rests to breathe enough time for me. However, a simple solution for you might be to turn the 4/4 into 5/4 bars at the same tempo, giving you another rest in which to breathe. And nice to see you posting, Frank!

Does nose breathing help us not move as much? Is this the idea behind alternating corners and nose breaths?
@markeybone
@markeybone Ай бұрын
That’s the idea-to observe what you do without any change in your corners. It doesn’t mean that there is no movement at all, but by breathing through your nose, you can see if there’s any obvious change, which is different from a more fluid one.

In a daily session, should one play week 1 plus week 2 or week 2 instead of week 1?
@markeybone
@markeybone Ай бұрын
Each video is intended to serve as one week’s work, so this video is for week 2. If there are things you feel like you’d like to continue (for example, you feel like you’ve made progress, but are still at around 50% getting your desired sound), then continue with video 1 until you’re closer to 75%. At least that was my intent!
