Rabbit I have two 1966 Chevy B body cars. One is the 4 door Belair that happens to my daily driver in my profile picture. In my barn currently scattered in a bunch of parts is a 2 door sport coupe impala. I’ve been thinking of dropping an engine pushing a minimum of 325 hp with a 3 deuce setup on it since the day I bought the car and realized the factory 283 was so trashed there was no saving it. Hell there’s barely any saving the car and there sure as hell ain’t no money to be made saving the car but I love that thing to a point where it’s unhealthy. Your description of how that very setup works is all it took to tell me I made the right decision

Rabbit talking about tri-power Fords....The guy who owned a 69 A12 Super Bee and 68 435HP Vette chuckling about him saying that 289 hauled AZZ......because of Tri-power.....Real SS396 L-78 375HP motors have DEEP GROOVE crank, water pump and alternator pulleys on them for a good reason.....My buddy swapped a set of "square ports" and solid cam on his 67 SS396....Me being a 44o Mopar dude....I was AMAZED at that 396 running to 7500RPMs and pulling HARD all the way after the swap...Went from a 13 second car to a high 11 second car after that work....Nowadays.....I'm happy with my low 12 second 72 LT-1 Corvette with its factory "deep groove" pulleys on it. My 1st Vette was a 72 C-60 (A/C) equipped LT-1 Vette....it threw its belts off the 1st time I ever ran it down the drag strip....ran 14.06@99MPH....

In 1987 in high school my dad got me a 74 Dodge Dart Swinger with gold/tan body & vinyl roof, steel wheels with hub caps and a 2 barrel carb on a 318ci V8.. I thought it was ugly and slow. A friend helped me see what it could be with some car magazines. I painted all the chrome trim flat black, tinted the windows limousine style, bucket seats from a Challenger. I changed the rotors and brakes so with some spacers I mounted the 16 inch silver wheels from a Dodge Daytona Turbo. I needed more fuel & air to go faster so I changed the heads, cam, intake, carb, headers, and other goodies from a Challenger that had a hole in the block. I did everything I could to boost that 318 since I didn't have the resources to swap the whole motor. It was a IROC and Mustang GT killer after that.

Yep, Ford guy here, thru and thru. My dad got me a GTO in H.S. and I loved it but it wasn't a Ford. Worst ass whipping I ever got was a 68 Shelby with a hot 427. I lost a few races but not many and never that bad. Got may ass kicked by a little Falcon but it had a 427 Chevy in it. I worked at a Ford dealer my senior year of H.S. where they had a 70 Mach 1 in Grabber blue. 351C with a 4 speed. I wanted that car so bad. Got to drive it for errands for about a month. We also had a 70 4 dr. Torino mamaw car with a 351 auto. Stripped grocery getter but it was one of the fasted cars on the lot. Sometimes they turn out a motor where everything went together just right. We got a 1600 Pinto on the truck one day that I drove that was that way. Couldn't believe how fast that little car was on a 1600. One of the best was my dads 71 LTD that I actually got to pick out at East Tennessee Ford in Knoxville. It was a special order that the customer didn't want. 429 4 bbl. 390 rear gear, trailer towing pkg. with heavy duty brakes, suspension, cooling and electrical. I embarrased more than one small block Camaro with that car. By the way. Got a 18 Mustang GT with the perf. pack now. Wish I had 460 h.p. back in the day.

Great video and story Rob, thank you! P.S. I remember those Chevrolets puking their coolant out BITD. It seemed like whenever you ran one very hard they got hot. The radiators back then were only adequate, so it's no wonder why they did that. The belts flying off of them are why they invented deep groove pulleys too...

Tall wheel cars ride like a buc board, and look out of proportion on many levels, but to each their own. That's the beauty of changing wheels. It will change the personality of a car for short money. Just hang on to the rally wheels with raised white letter tires so the new owner can have the option to change back if they want the classic hot rod look. Another good video Bud.

My father bought my mother a brand new '63 Falcon with three on the tree. The car I learned to drive on. Brand new the interior stank of gas. Ford dealership mechanics tried again and again to find the problem. Finally they brought in the region's top troubleshooter. Now the rear end on the Falcon was kind of light so my dad had about 250 pounds of water softener salt in the trunk. So the troubleshooter said he fixed the problem. Dad asked the dealer what the problem was that eluded his mechanics. Turns out the guy threw out the salt! He said it smelled like gasoline. My Dad was angry and told them of course it did it was in that car. That Saturday my Dad was at the local Shell station relaying the story to the owner. The station's young mechanic asked if he could try and find it. My dad agreed after the owner said with a smile said this young guy doesn't think there's a car problem he can't solve. Let's see if we can stump him. He puts it up on the lift and five minutes later returned with a smile and said he figured it out. The kid found there was a small tiny hole in the fuel line. Not big enough to leak gas visibly on the ground. So they ordered a new fuel line and it fixed the problem. My Dad wrote a letter to Ford and copied the dealer and told them this 19 year old kid at the Shell station was better than any of their mechanics or Ford's top troubleshooter. He suggested that they should consider hiring him ;
