I hope Devil May Cry 6 explores the hierarchy of demons in the underworld as Dante and Vergil travel throughout it on their hunt for Mundus. And I hope it has a little more depth than this demon try to rise to power and Sparda stopped them. I want to see different factions of demons with different abilities across across a varied landscape in the underworld.

So far, we got three Argosax faction of Chaos, the Temen ni Gru faction of Sparda this includes all the bosses in DMC3 who was a part of Sparda's faction yeah Cerberus and Nevan are anti-demon initially and finally you have Mundus's Kingdom with Mundus himself being special as neither Dante nor Sparda can actually kill him thus making him actually Immortal

They could explore more about his mother in the next game with Nero but I hope it's done in a separate game from Dante and Vergil. The cast is getting a bit too big for them to all share one story. It's time to start giving everyone their own games.

They are probably trying to decide what direction to go in. Capcom should let Itsuno remake 2 so they have time to figure out where to take the series. I still think a Sparda game set mostly in the demon realm would be dope, tell the unseen story on how Sparda went up against Mundus and Argosax.

Yes. Capcom and the localization of its games always end up generating some error or divergence in the texts, especially in the files. In my case, I live in Brazil, and the localized version of DMC 5 in Brazilian Portuguese has several errors compared to the original subtitles. Something unfortunate... as it undermines our understanding of history and Lore.

Technological limitations? When Itsuno took over to develop DMC2, he only had four months to make it. If he was given the same amount of time as he did with DMC3, DMC2 would've been better than DMC3. If a majority of every game that ever existed had the same time frame of development as DMC2, I guarantee 85 percent of them would be shittier than DMC2. DMC2 was still a playable game. Not many developers would be able to accomplish that with just four months on their hands

Argosax is the only Demon king who show a feats where he capable fully control demonic energy, like how Phantom in this game show up because Argosax created a time paradox time where Phantom from DMC 1 was able to show up in DMC 2 because of that. In other words Argosax created a time travel with that demonic energy. Its kinda crazy because that is him when the seal is not completely broken by Arius. DMC 2 have potential to be a good game since it was made only 4 months.

This was my first dmc as a kid. I couldn't even play through Lucia's playthrough or after game stuff because my second disc was unusable. I just played through Dantes campaign repeatedly. Loved it. Then I got DMC 3 and my head exploded.

After seeing this, it makes me wonder if Argosax The Chaos’s power had somehow influenced Vergil while being Urizen. In his boss fights, you can see him do moves reminiscent of Geryon (time manipulation), Artimis (beam projectiles), Goliath (fireballs), and Malphas (teleports). In a way Urizen was an amalgamation of their powers similar to Argosax the Chaos. It could be coincidence, but it’s an interesting note. 🤔

He could have picked up quicksilver from Dante in the same way that Dante picked up Beowulf from Vergil in DMC3, by their blood pooling and mixing in the sacrificial altar. (I assume that's what happened anyway. All that happens in game is that Beowulf is sitting on the ground at the start of the very next mission after the second Vergil fight.) Hard to say for sure though.

I have a fan theory that Vergil throughout the events of Fortuna to DMC3 heavily studied the lore of Devils & Hell, on top of the Legend of Sparda, even Arkham in the manga explains everything he knows about Demonology to him, hence why even when he faces Mundus for the first time, he refers to him as the “Prince of Darkness”. It wouldn’t be a surprise he knows about Argosax as well

The Phantom part was confirmed later by the Slice-of-life Anime, where there are confirmed to be multiple Phantom demons. The one Dante faced on Mallet island is, from what I've searched around and read of some comments, a "sibling" to the other Phantoms.

It is true that there are several Phantom... But the ones we see in DMC1 and DMC2 are the same, the one we see in DMC2 is a version of DMC1's phantom that Argosax brought through time when he was distorting the human dimension especially time and space.

About the part of people from Dumary Island secretly devoting Argosax and ending up summoning him, I think probably the same thing happened with Mundus on Mallet Island, as the whole island seemed more like a place of devotion to him. Perhaps it was in this way that he, too, reemerged and was freed from the prison that Sparda had condemned him to.

Ok, but as a Vergil stan....you're right. Lol Seriously though, I've always said that DMC2 had way more potential than people give it credit for. It honestly has some interesting ideas and lore implications, and even interesting characters. I just wish it had all been executed much better, but it is what it is. This is why Capcom giving 2 another go with a remake would be so good but would, unfortunately, be too risky with just the title of the game alone.

Argosax is a pretty cool demon king actually. It's fairly androgynous and now knowing it has the Powers of every demon make it almost like a force of nature. It's cool that it has no definitive form.

Devil May Cry 2 honestly had the best atmosphere and setting imo. That sprawling city(described as a gothic New York) with the psychedelic fast moving clouds was really cool. It also had the coolest version of Dante. His fit was sharp, and he wasn't a manchild with ADHD like in later installments. I'm sorry(not sorry) but if I have to choose between Dante being "emo" or moonwalking while doing Michael Jackson impressions........I'm going with emo Dante. They definitely should remake this.

Nice to see someone finally cover this. I did want to say there are a couple things that can be added(don’t sweat it though, this game has a lot of lore spread out across it’s various novels and guides, etc). First, you mentioned how people might be wondering why Argosax was able to pull Phantom forward in time during 2 without affecting phantom. 2’s novel shows that there are basically alternate timelines where stories of the characters play out differently from their originals and in that timeline pretty much every character we see, be it Vergil, Trish, Mundus, Sparda, Mundus’s generals, or Dante himself all have different outcomes from the OG timeline. It also doesn’t matter if versions of themselves in the OG timeline die because they aren’t affected. So phantom being pulled forward here is actually more consistent with what’s established in DMC’s story. Second, there’s a page about Despair Embodied’s design in the 3142 artbook that covers why he looks the way he does. The artist confirms he’s actually supposed to be the final stage of alchemy, an androgynous human. He’s also stated to be a perfect everlasting being blazing with endless energy. So I would say that Arius’s statements about Argosax being an all-powerful immortal, who will give him absolute wisdom, and allow him to transcend all living things is not too far off. He also does have the powers and forms of all demons so I think it is fair to say that Despair Embodied is indeed a perfect being lol.

Finally, there’s actually more context behind Dante’s fight with Despair Embodied in the Trinity of Fates movie B, for DMC2, on KZbin. It shows that Despair is able to fight back against Dante and even forces him to go Majin. All in all, a good video. I’m glad you’re covering stuff from DMC2. This game has so much more lore than a lot of the other games in the series so it definitely needs to get covered. If you’re curious about the info I mentioned, I provide links if needed. @@sulthanarya3281 No? I don’t think it confirms that Dante doesn’t use Majin at all. What Dante says is that against his power(the power that forced back Mundus, Argosax was nothing special). It’s also clarified earlier that he doesn’t remember any demons worth killing except for Mundus because Mundus killed his family. The issue with the first statement is that it’s just very wrong. Dante never beat Mundus with his own power, he used the sparda sword. Secondly, just months before the events of DMC2 he defeats Abigail, a demon that is stated to have power on par with that of the demon king(Mundus). He also defeats an alternate timeline version of Mundus in 2’s novel just months before 2’s game(a version that never is sealed away or weakened). Finally, Argosax is not only more powerful than all of those, he’s more powerful than DMC1 Mundus anyway, so Dante’s statement here would just be inaccurate by most of the source material in the series. 5’a novel isn’t enough to retcon that much consistency. You would need several statements and actions in the timeline.

There’s also another problem. 5’s novel statements are operating under the basis of Dante’s knowledge at the time as he is remembering the events 10 years later, when isn’t even aware of most of the facts of the situation. No disrespect intended(trust me, you’re not the first person who has unfortunately made this mistake) That is probably the worst example of a retcon being applicable that I can think of in DMC, because Dante’s knowledge in this context is simply not reliable.

He get himself sealed by a human with magic(Lowell) which is show Abigail power is not evem close to Mundus. Trust me I also believe Argosax are stronger than Mundus until new history of DMC and Before Nightmare novel came out and flat out said they were equal and had to split the demon world because had no winners for both side. And like you said Dante literally kill Void Mundus who are stronger than OG version, which put him above Argosax as well. And Dante did that in baseform. So the Trinity fates statement already a contradict this because its make no sense that Dante using Majin mode(Super morph on guide book lol) againts someone who weaker than him.

The fact that they gave this character and game enough lore to make a story at all considering the INCREDIBLY difficult production really makes it feel like it deserves a second chance by a remake treatment. The fact that Capcom still hasn't officially taken it out behind the shed to officially put DMC2 out of its misery by completely declaring it non-canon is somewhat of a miracle, that they acknowledge the game in any capacity in Before the Nightmare and 5's recap video (the former apparently giving half of the information we have here now!) just as much. It's a very weird case in that you can tell they're certainly still shameful of the whole thing, even though they're still more than happy putting it on sale all the time in the collection (and on the Nintendo Switch, it's it's own separate package). It's really an odd choice, and with just how INSANELY loved the RE remakes are, it feels like it's a no-brainer. It's bizarre how Capcom handles this title in particular, I really am in the camp of remake this. While I would say DMC1 would also be a fun and arguably more deserving remake, this game is a very unorthodox example for a remake contender, not necessarily because it's loved, but because it never got to have the same love the other titles get. To make something truly great out of DMC2 I think would actually put some smiles on a lot of people, including the folks like Itsuno-san, who ended up merely getting a bad hand and having to put out DMC2, and having to go above and beyond to win everyone back after.

I remember before DmC 5 was out and we only had the trailer and no clear timeline placement... When we saw Dante on the motorcycle in the end, my head instantly created a Story. If 2 had been placed after DmC 4 ( and that was rumored for a while) I imagined the first half of the game being Nero, Nico... and Lucia finding a way to free Dante for he was stuck in the underworld at the end of 2. I really would have liked for Lucia to return. She was not a bad addition, a lot of potential and great fighting style. I also liked the idea of the amulet as the devil trigger and swapping the parts for the different attributes and skills. And in my mind, this last scene of Dante on the motorcycle in the trailer was when they suceeded to open a portal bring him back. His little shabby look fit this little thought of mine like a glove. XD I am still a bit mad that we never got clear explanation for how Dante came back after defeating argosax. It would have been dope if the motorcycle Lucia heard in the end of 2 when she was waiting for Dante in his shop was actually Nero or Lady... looking for Dante to help but only find Lucia and so she becomes part of the gang... Well... time proofed me wrong. XD

In Lore Reason of Why Phantom exists in DMC 2: "Argosax had the power to distort the human world and bring forth demons from another dimension like Phantom which Dante has already bested." Actual Reason Why Phantom exists in DMC 2: The developers just imported the files from DMC 1 because they lacked the time and resources to create a new boss.

majin form Dante all demonic power. sin is Dante true form which both demonic and human. why Dante didn't use majin against urizen is because Dante needs be in critical condition. urizen just knock him unconscious. also if he did use majin there no guarantee it would do anything as Don't last long.

The answer is it got retconned and DMC2 was pushed to earlier in the timeline before dmc4 😅 as before dmc2 it was at the end of the timeline when Dante was his oldest because there was no explanation of how he escaped hell, Dante, in DMC2, but they explained it in a novel that he escaped through a portal, the same one that demons use to go the human world

Now many people maybe asking then why Dante didn't activated it against Urizen?? Its because Dante was thrown in a coma state by Urizen and not in a near death state. Being in coma and being in near death state are too seperate things. Take V for example his body was crumbling and he was near his death when he reached Urizen after mission 17. Sin DT is much much stronger, MDT is basically Dante being consumed by just his demon side, while SDT is Dante true form fully demon yet with the heart and blood of a human, also DMC2 enemies are weak af Urizen>>>>>>>>>>DMC2, if Urizen was in DMC2 he'd easily be invincible as well easily steamrolling every opponent there, and SDT>>>Urizen. It may sound unpopular opinion to others but for me I wished devil may cry 2 would have been remake similar to resident evil 2 or 4 dead space and Final Fantasy VII Remakes with advancements and improvements over the qualities visuals graphics production values directions voice actings writings dialogues AI animations game mechanics weapons enemies bosses plots storylines concepts characters especially Dante personalities characterizations and developments Being true and aligned to DMC 3 1 4 or 5 also reconstructing updating revamped Improved and fixing the worst and weakest parts of game and expanding enriched enhanced and augmented the best most redeeming and enjoyable aspects of devil may cry 2 especially having all elements from devil may cry 5 like game mechanics weapons combos gameplay executions and AI while modernizing updating reinvigorating and retaining all mechanics gameplays AI and best most enjoyable and memorable parts of devil may cry 2 to have own things while being faithful and respectful to original game while being far bigger better overall superior and climactic than original game just like devil may cry 5 also hopefully it remake of DMC2 shall have Lucia a bigger roles spotlights and upgrades she rightfully deserves plus retained many likable sympathetic and badass treats and qualities from original to remake also many ideas concepts and potentials of original devil may cry 2 not only be used and implemented but nether rushed nor wasted plus perfectly executed and done right also doing justice to original DMC 2 also having horror elements from original and first devil may cry to be used and incorporated in DMC 2 remake having right and good balances and combinations of horror suspense thrill and actions also having the hearts souls magics and fun that made devil may cry 1 3 4 and 5 special unique memorable and beloved in first place but also having horror suspense thrill and action element from original and first devil may game incorporating In devil may cry 2 remake while respecting and honoring the original and first devil may cry while making remakes it own things and both redeeming and done original DMC 2 justice
