There are so many thing about dmc3's combat that are way cooler than 5. Wall runs with the trickster style, using enemies as skateboards, this game has so much charm while having a really good story
@jurtheorc81172 ай бұрын
Wall runs in general seem like it would be cool to see a return for in character action games. The PS2 Prince of Persia games showed as much what one can do with the environmental acrobatic interactions for combat. I suppose Gori: Cuddly Carnage (recently released) has some wall sliding stuff which connects to the combat: Doing movement tricks with the segmented blade skateboard that is your main mode of transport, fills up a Special meter. And there's the upcoming Genokids. That one's looking interesting, but i don't think the wall running gets utilized in the combat... Would recommend looking into it, though!

Dmc3 can be played like an action rpg if you boot a fresh same on DMD. You will have to grind to get the best weapon upgrades and increase your style rank and then game is easily 12-15 hours on DMD that way. When you beat it you can basically free roam on mission 19 and you can go anywhere. The game is a lot bigger than it makes itself seem. I personally wish vergil would have had cutscenes in his campaign though

This game is a king of the genre. Like coming off of dmc 2 the devs had to prove themselves and they did. Just all the little details like wall running with trickster. Or shooting to keep your combo up. Dt explosion is so satisfying in this game where you build up dt with r2. Vergil's boss fights are honestly my favourite in the series because of the atmosphere and the gameplay. The cutscenes are also legendary. Great Voice acting, great story and the reply value is insane.

This game is like what Black Myth Wukong is now. It's so damn good and legitimately one of the funnest games I've ever played. The overall combat expression with the advanced techniques like Jump Canceling and Weapon Switching, and with Style Switching on the more recent platforms is so god damn satisfying even to this day. Each Style is also something I genuinely look forward to mastering. Swordmaster adds a new level of depth to your weapons, making combos even more fun. Trickster is borderline overpowered when mastered, and Gunslinger is very fun once you get the hang of it. Royalguard especially is insanely hard yet so satisfying to master. Legitimately nothing better than being overpowered just by simply mastering such a well-balanced mechanic. While I loved DMC 5 as well and what it meant to the series, DMC 3 will always hold a special place in my heart and to me will probably remain as the best DMC game of all-time.

As with the Tony Hawk games, I must commend the Devil May Cry games for fostering my love of industrial music at a pretty young age before I was ever actively listening to industrial at 16. Not only that, but the story, setting, and tone of the games are all perfect, for at least the first and 3rd games. They nailed the Gothic aspect in a way the other games didn't, especially 2. But the combat is the obvious standout. These games were THE challenging games of my childhood before I found even harder games like Dark Souls as a teen. They're always fun to go back to, and Vergil is hands down one of the best characters in the series to play as. It's amazing that so much of what the series has, it all got right on the 3rd instalment. Everything in this game is a staple and I couldn't image the series having gone forward with such an engaging presentation as with Devil May Cry 3.

Thanks for making this. I like hearing praise and respect from newer, younger fans for the games that started it all. Of course nothing that the Souls games are known for would be possible without the elements taken from the pure, OG action games, and they deserve their attention always and forever, so I appreciate you shining a light on this and speaking from your own enjoyment. There are absolutely small things that could be better in DMC3, but compared to some of the major mistakes made in the other games of the series, 3 is not only the most innovative and most confident, it's still the most complete. One of the few games that is an actual masterpiece. No remake needed.

I can’t believe this only has like 500 views. This is my third favorite game ever made. I love that this game doesn’t have the bloat that would be put into the future titles (in my opinion many combos despite being different inputs and different animations tend to blend together and have the same uses so it makes the combat feel more unnecessarily deep where it doesn’t need to be). This game also just has many other things I love about it like some amazing ass bosses, amazing levels and world design + art design. While there’s some annoying enemies there’s also many very very fun ones to fight (all the reapers, the bugs can be pretty fun and the chess pieces). This game also just introduces so many things to the action genre that would be imitated in games made to this day but the game also unfortunately gets very little credit for what is has done for gaming in general. Edit: I made this comment before even watching the videos and I find it funny that we both pointed out the same fun enemies in the game lol.

If you play it with style switcher mod or on switch i think it still is the most satisfying DMC combat system to master & even without style switch it's still a masterclass in action game design that should be studied by game design students looking to get into making character action games. @@Lin_Eileen At some point I’d like to play 3 with style switching, I’m sure it’s awesome
@jurtheorc81172 ай бұрын
There's an upcoming character action type game that does something interesting with "style" switching, called Genokids. Instead of styles, you switch between four different characters, who i believe each get two weapons, their own Specials/"Magic", and their own Special State/Devil Trigger. Some things that it seems to offer would be things like: - Starting a Special/Magic move that has a more extended animation (like a punch rush with Red) and then switching to another character. Red will still stay on the field for the duration of that animation, allowing you to walk behind the enemy that Red is beating up to do some cool stuff. - Canceling a Knockback animation. After all, if it's Blue that got knocked back, it'd be weird if Yellow, Green and Red got knocked back too when technically *they* weren't the ones to get slapped :P Another game from 2023, which seems more in the vein of God Hand with its customization, does cool work with Style Switching too, but in a different way. That game is relatively more grounded, though colorful, unique and a world/game i can warmly recommend looking up. Anyway: Combat is more like a martial arts adventure. You can find different Stances which all have: - A combo string - A Jump attack - A Run attack - A Charge attack - An attack from a directional dodge (forwards, backwards and sideways) All of these Stances have their own unique animation movesets and properties. Slash Stance keeps a lower profile, gets zig-zaggy and hits with lower damage but in a wider range. Boxing is a solid allrounder. Spear focuses high damage and the furthest reach of any Stance to the enemy right in front of you, but leaves your flanks open and has somewhat slow start-up. Lightning is the fastest of all stances (look like Muay Thai movements), Crab seems to be the closest thing to a Grappling stance with some stunning capacities, Mammoth is slow, heavy ungus bungus damage, Shadow Stance keeps up forward pressure with multiple hits per input. Some Directional Dodge attacks keep you moving while others return you to your original position, some cover more ground or keep to the side/front/back a bit longer or shorter than others before returning you to that position. Even though you can only equip two Stances at once, you can switch between them mid-combo. Go from the Mammoth Stance dropkick right into the Lightning Stance's combo string, then Lightning's forward dodge attack (a nasty knee) followed by Mammoth side attacks left and right which are tough spinning backfists, and you can keep it going from there. There's room for three inputs for an individual Special attack too, and there's an Animation Canceling mechanic where, if you input a new non-combo string move the moment your attack makes contact with an enemy, then the new input comes out immediately. Hope this got your interest!

Nowadays, with the Switch version and PC if you want to count the style switching mod, takes DMC3 to a whole new level despite that we got that first with DMC4 but for me it ended up becoming the true way to actually play DMC3 and it's more enjoyable since you can make a lot of combos while switching weapons and devil arms on the fly while maintaining your style meter as high as possible.

Got its own rough and divisive spots, but it's a very solid newcomer to the genre that ought to be known more. I love it a lot. There's not only seven total weapons that all have their unique movesets and purposes but also a big enemy selection, around 23 enemies. Enemies tend to have three different attacks at *least*, with some interesting things sometimes like - Having a shield or wearing armor, for which two of the seven weapons --the warhammer and buckler gauntlet-- are optimal for getting rid of. - The presence of a kind of "leader" --Alpha Mongrels, Furies and Captains-- giving particular enemy types --Mongrels, Shriekers and Guards-- an aggressiveness boost - Two varieties of a ranged attack, one being a wave of red crystals that fans out and another being three seams from which said jagged crystals pop out and more. Would be up for hearing your impressions on it!

As much as I love DMC3 I have like 2 major problems with it. 1. Fuck Lock On because I can’t lock back onto the Demon I want to. 2. The enemies and bosses in this game are so bad broooooo 😭😭😭. There’re literally 6 enemies in the entire game that you can properly combo (Prides, Lusts, Sloths, Gluttonies, Envies, and Abysses). The bosses that aren’t Vergil, Cerberus, and Agni & Rudra are also pretty bad (fuck Geryon man…”STOP BUZZING AROUND!” -Goliath). Yeah maybe you could make a case for Nevan and Beowulf but that’s kinda it lol.
@LaloBalteus2 ай бұрын
I mean, in terms of bosses we are still the same, dmc4 has 2 good bosses, then 5 we have like 5-6 good bosses like in 3(Goliath, Cavaliere Angelo, King Cerberus, Urizen chair, Urizen tentacle and vergil) most other bosses on 5 are crap and then full power urizen exists lol

DMC3 might still be the absolute best hack and slash ever made, with Bayonetta second and Ninja Gaiden 3rd. DMC5 felt so bloated, for the sake ofnbeing bloated. Still a worthy sequel, though imo the worst out of the "good" ones.

Nah, I strongly disagree. In terms of combat, the only aged like a fine wine is a god-like DMC 4. While DMC 3 is slow (yes, you must replay dmc 3 after dmc 4), dull, sluggish and, let's settle this, NOT fun at all without turbo and freestyle mods, let alone not having the variety of arenas you may combo on, hell, even the bloody palace mostly contains the floors with chess pieces, flying bullshit and so on in the list of, I dare to say, "uncomboable" stuff, DMC 4 still slaps you, sure, less Devil Arms, less firearms, yet the speed, color palette and level-design are a chief's kiss. You may be good at DMC 3 & 5, but try to control the scarecrow for at least 5 seconds in the air... Boy... now that's the peak of combat... (get it?)

Yep, I am that one grumpy DMC 1 & 4 enjoyer, that won't stop thinking about how overrated DMC 3 is, even though it's my most replayed game (also most hated, stupid SS requirements on Very Hard and DMD)

As someone who only played ninja gaiden, dmc 3 challenge was disappointing, the easy bosses, fodder like enemies and while the combat has depth, ninja gaiden 1 just feel more complex
@Aiden-Ed2 ай бұрын
As someone who’s played 1 and 2 I think the lack of multiple kinds of styles, lack of attacks that do different things (launch, or knock back or have any cool looking effects) makes the combat feel more stale than other hack and slash / character action games. In ninja gaiden I feel like an acrobatic guy swinging a sword. In dmc I feel like some kind of superhero or smth.
@nioh2-ky8fr2 ай бұрын
@@Aiden-Ed the idea of styles is cool but I think sword master should give you different moves with the input than only let you do more moves, or atleast let us switch between styles
@Aiden-Ed2 ай бұрын
@@nioh2-ky8fr I don’t get what u mean by the beginning of ur reply tbh. What do you mean by that sentence? I broke this comment into a different part cause I want to warn you, I just created a whole ah essay on why I think the combat in dmc is so strong and why I prefer how it approaches combat over ninja gaiden. It’s long cause I have passion for these games lol. And style switching is optional on switch which is unfortunate but I honestly prefer it without it anyways. Having circle as a dedicated action without feeling like you’re playing a rythm game with the way you need to style switch on the go and switch guns and weapons is just annoying imo, especially when it means you have to move your left thumb and lose control of other parts of the moveset while style switching I can’t dodge or use certain inputs. Dmc3 imo has the perfect balance of control over the character, moveset flashiness, but also depth because of things like the gun and weapon switching where you can weave moves together and use certain guns in specific circumstances such as with Beowulf and Agni and Rudra you can do a regular attack combo to launch and then switch to the swords to do the fire tornado and launch them higher and spam the style button to ensure you fly in the air and switch again to use hell on earth and finish the combo, that’s button spam during other attack animations is called buffering which is interesting little tech btw. you can extend it by using something like the shotgun or kalina Ann and then Agni and Rudra foreward attack or the style attack with beowulf cause it has range or you can use the honing jump attack that can be led into a jump cancel and style in the air with Agni and Rudra or switch to pistols or blah blah blah blah, there’s plenty of depth without it being annoying to memorize these ridiculous combos with hyper specific inputs just for those combos to just be attack for this long or a little longer, that’s the depth that is in stuff like ninja gaiden. Sure in that series there’s a few cool things like the grapple when you jump to knock enemies back and you can do the Izuna drop which can grapple in mid air which is cool. But the combos in general are just watch the weapon swing this way or that way. With dmc there’s ranged attacks with the weapons themselves and more variations between the ranged weapons and more variation with how attacks in dmc work. Rebellion has fast attacks, ranged attacks, buffer tech, jump cancel tech, variations between its launchers and knock back attacks. Cerberus has more jump cancel tech, a move that makes you invulnerable while comboing airborne enemies, and a badass launching Crystal attack. Agni and Rudra has a bunch of cool area of effect type of attacks or that circle Dante cool launchers and a cool ranged attack or high damage point blank attack. Nevan has a cool range based moveset with a melee sword master moveset and a lot of buffer tech and high damage ranged sword master attack. And beowulf has again more cool buffer tech, cool jump cancel combos with the jump attacks, cool airborn moveset variation in general because of those plus hell on earth, or you can use the ranged stuff with it or the uppercut that requires you to set it up by launching an enemy. There’s plenty more that can be said that adds depth to the game because of the utility of the attacks in Dante’s moveset that simply can’t be said about almost any weapon in the ninja gaiden series. Maybe only stuff like the lunar staff because of the way the attacks sweep around and its range? Idk it is still a weapon that just feels like the katana, in fact that’s the problem with that series. Most of those weapons have the same style of attacks. You light attack and then heavy and then izuna drop or just try to use one of the multitudes of those filler combos until an enemy dies so you can use the fast version of the charge attack. I didn’t want to hate on ninja gaiden cause I love team ninja and I do in fact love ninja gaiden 2 a lot, but these problems really do plague the titles compared to the dmc series imo.
@Aiden-Ed2 ай бұрын
Imma also just do a second reply as a tldr. Ninja Gaiden has filler combos. DMC3 attacks each have utility which makes the combos more intuitive and more satisfying.
