Zero Hunter It depends, these are demons after all. Though these ones are from the circles in hell, which is implied to be the outskirts, so they may not be up to date with things. They may also simply not care. That said, of course Berial would know it was Dante because he's demon royalty himself.

And after many years the DMC5 prequel novel gives us the answer as to why Berial is the only beast in DMC4 who recognizes Dante. He is Mundus' son. The compatriots Berial mentions is actually Mundus' army from DMC1 not Echidna and Bael/Dagon Edit: apparently Berial being Mundus' son is a misconception/mistranslation and he is only supposed to be the heir of Mundus. I don't know how true that is or not so take this comment with a grain of salt

I think that's really lame, honestly. Mundus' son is a potential concept for a sequel. It's silly to know it was used for a first major boss that shows up, gets beaten, retreats and then unceremoniously gets killed after one more fight. He's on par with Phantom. I do like Phantom though. 'Mundus' son' makes me think of a 3-eyed humanoid rival, perfected to fight the kin of Sparda when Mundus returns. Created in his image (much like how he created Trish) and so powerful that he calls him 'son'. Wouldn't that be rad, y'all? I guess they could've intended it to mean 'Yeah, Mundus created Berial, but he wasn't actually special.' though.

Battling Dante was the best, I've always wanted to have a duel with dante, it was so depressing in DMC 3 Special Edition when playing as Vergil you still fought Vergil in those boss fights.

fire vs. light, one wielding fists of angels the other a sword which by itself deserves the title hellish. from a realistic standpoint the sword would burn beowulf so badly he'd be unable to move and would probably turn to ash with his fire roar. Sadly this is not true due to it being the universe where a monster that is sliced in half by most things can take an arsenal's worth of attacks and still be alive

matthew taylor I personally see Berial to be on a higher tier compared to the likes of Beowulf, at least going by his actual showings and title (if that's of any indication). Both of them are greater demons (though their powers pale in comparison with that of a demon lord such as Abigail and Argosax), but I still would put my money on the conqueror of the Fire Hell.

Berial is a general of hell in most origins or storys involving him, and beowulf and all powerful lone devil. [obviously not as in beowolf from his epic].
