After playing 5 and then revisiting 4 I realized this song is meant for Vergil more than anyone. At first I thought it was for Nero. But Nero realizes what truly motivates him and in the subsequent scenes Vergil does the same. He realizes that it isn’t about just obtaining power but to use power to protect what he cares about. Which is his legacy, his father’s legacy. Nero didn’t want to lose what he had found and Vergil, despite his words didn’t want to either. This is why Vergil is my favorite video game character ever. And it’s done so well that it doesn’t take away from Nero’s development. It actually adds so much depth. He is a parallel of his father. “I always hated myself for not having enough strength.” “This time I’m not letting you die” He lost his devil bringer, a part of him. But once he finds out Vergil is his father and Dante his uncle, he wants to do everything to protect it, despite his anger, which unleashes his true power. Nero doesn’t want his legacy to be letting those he loves die. Vergil is the exact same. To the uninitiated Vergil is all about power but what’s behind that lust for power is his motivation to gain so much power that he’ll never lose anyone again. “Might controls everything. Without strength you cannot protect anything. Let alone yourself.” It’s all about motivation. Even the lyrics speak of overcoming obstacles, redemption, rising again, strength and legacy. Best game ever.

Remember: Just because we *only* saw Credo in Devil May 4 as a boss, we can't forget that he was technically the older step brother since his family adopted Nero. Meaning that the fight between both Sons of Sparda at the end of Devil May Cry 5 reminded Nero of the conflict he had with Credo, who he was unable to save AND that their last interaction with each other was a fight. This song is so haunting, beautiful, and tragic. I've seen people who say this is just Nero's song. Or it's Vergil's song. But I think this is all three of their songs. Dante, Vergil, and Nero. Nero and Vergil are pretty straight forward. This is Nero defining his legacy. Overcoming his limits and breaking through to his father and making up for his mistakes and failures. Vergil is overcoming his hatred and opening up his heart after feeling like it was his fault their mother was murdered by demons. But here's where you have to look a bit deeper. Dante is getting old. His character model shows as much. He's not going to be around forever but someone has to be strong enough to protect the humans when he's gone. One his last lines of the game show's his growth and him accepting that Nero is his legacy the person who will carry on protecting the world. "It's because you're here we can do this" Vergil could have closed that gateway to hell on his own. He's just as strong as Dante. But Dante has accepted that Nero is his legacy and the one who be his successor much like Dante was for Sparta. Then there's the whole Eva singing to her children theory that kinda doubles down on this idea. She's telling them that their fight is over and they can rest now that Nero is ready to protect the human world. Just a little thought that I had might be wrong but the fact that a 3 minute long song has so many layers and meanings is just awesome.

If you think about it, Nero is almost a parallel or even a reincarnation of Sparda due to their many similarities. Devil powers, fighting for love (Kyrie), prevented Dante and Vergil from killing each other. It's quite ironic and fitting because both sons inherited different personalities from their father and when one of them had a son of his own, he inherited traits from both uncle and dad which completes Sparda.

Something I love about Nero is that I can safely say without a doubt that out of all of their descendants, Sparda and Eva would be the most proud of Nero. He quite literally followed in Sparda's footsteps. He almost became a power hungry demon like Vergil, but thanks to the love of a human woman he found his path to inner peace. He's also ironically the most mature of Sparda's descendants. He's the reason Vergil and Dante have finally stopped trying to kill each other after such an iconic history of sibling rivalry.

The point in the game when this song plays is my favorite example of character development. Nero had wanted revenge against Vergil/Urizen for the entire game until Dante revealed to him that he was Vergil's son. Obviously, Nero was conflicted, and he couldn't find any answers from the Devil May Cry members. He was torn between revenge and protecting his family. Finally, when Kyrie talks to Nero and helps him calm down, he finally finds an answer: he should protect his family, no matter who they are. And with that belief in mind he was able to unlock his true power and become powerful enough to end the rivalry between Dante and Vergil.

DARK ZANGETSU the game wasn’t even better than the vanilla version of kh2, story or gameplay. Kh3 was targeted for new comers and that was it’s major issue. It’s story was horrendous, brain dead gameplay, just an overall boring game. Devil May Cry 5 however had amazing gameplay with depth, was able to win over both old and new fans, and tbh the story itself wasn’t anything amazing, but it wasn’t ridiculously long like kh3 with no plot holes. It was satisfying and gave the fans what they wanted and more.

I like to think this song is directed right at the SOS, more so Vergil. Here's why- First off, "rise again" and after Nero beats Vergil, he {Vergil} goes with Dante to destroy the roots of the Qlipoth, and in the scenes at the end we see a potential renewal of hope and retribution in him. Nextly, the song's staple and title, "This is your legacy". It's a beautiful song, but it also hits just as Nero is hitting his Devil Trigger while racing towards the tower. And yes, Vergil's legacy more than attempts to kill Dante and gain power, is Nero, the next generation of Devil Hunters. And lastly, the opening lyrics "When those voices deep within, bring you down to your knees again" seems like it could be two points in Vergil's life. First when he is a child, naked and alone, demons attacking him until he slaughtered them. Or, it could be when he was crumbling, breaking from numerous defeats.

This is your legacy Sparda. You showed even a devil can feel. That humans have a strength that demons lack. Your sons have shown the strength of their humanity and even led a new generation of Devil hunters. On a side note, this could possibly have been Eva's lullaby to the twins. It was just used as the theme for a new legacy.

I think Kirye sings more for Nero, it's indicated by a lot of details. For example, legacy plays when Nero and Kyrie have a sincere conversation and he needs advice, because it's Kyrie who knows how to help him. She's always been with him. and the text says about it: "I'll be here standing, standing beside you"

why do i get the feeling this is Kyrie singing to Nero . I mean the lyrics are similar to Kyrie's dialogues in that telephone booth conversation . Nero was in doubt but Kyrie helped him think clearly and gave him hope , told him he's never alone . Just like this song the lyrics are encouraging and supporting telling the listeners they have hope and they're not alone .

I'm torn between the ending of this game,part of me wanted to see Nero spend a little more time with his father,I feel like there would've been a bit more impact when he left but I also like this ending to with Virgil leaving him that story book and letting him know he'll be back for it. I'm guessing the next game will be a solo Nero game if we're lucky enough to get another one 🤞

They arent the throw the ball back and forth type. Vergil ripped his arm off.
@popcultureenthusiast55875 жыл бұрын
After beating the game, whenever you go to the main menu, Vergil can be seen in the van chilling with the gang, and I truly hope thats Canon after the dialogue V said about him wanting to he loved and protected, but what life gave him forced him into a need for power which would've likely gotten into his head for how long he's lived. And the relationship growth that Dante and Vergil go through near endgame. He most likely still desires fighting Dante but also trying to reconnect the feeling of having a family
@popcultureenthusiast55875 жыл бұрын
ripping his son's arm, think in his situation. Vergil was on the verge of dying and went on instinct, he probably didn't even know that was his son until V returns to urizen and Vergil realizes how important his humanity is from V
@avolatilenoodle78295 жыл бұрын
@@popcultureenthusiast5587 As much as I don't want to believe it, I don't think Vergil hanging out in the van with the team is canon, 'cuz V is also there in the back, reading his book.

@@avolatilenoodle7829 I know what you mean, but if you look closely, Vergil and V are never seen together in one shot, because Nero may be fidgeting with his arm close to Nico and where Vergil would be sitting, we only see griffon, V, shadow, these shots compared to the one where it's Nero and Vergil look very similar but the difference is Vergil isn't there

i will truely miss the sons of sparda. been part of my life for so long. do i think it's a perfect end? course not. could always be better (DANTE, WHY NO KID!? AHOLE!) but christ did it feel right for the both of them. reaching power beyond sparda, being together in hell, never leaving each other. Nero taking over the protection of the human world. and i love that neither of them are outright dead. it means we can imagine what they have in store for the future. we may never see them again, but this send off is something special. good bye sons of Sparda, and thanks for the years of stylish fun.
