Rim defending stretch 4

Post scorer/rebounder. I could give up Luka's triple doubles if we could pick up a guy to get us 6-8 in limited minutes. It'd be a plus if he could shoot from 4'-8' as well. They literally have no one outside of Luka who can do that. Huge weakness for the team.

The Jonathan Isaac contract is not guaranteed the last 3 years. If he was not injured most of the time he would have gotten even more money. The Mavs lack exactly that position. Kleber can't shoot consistently and is far away of being a lockdown defender. The Bulls paid Williams because they drafted him at 4 and he is 6ft 8, shoots 40% from 3 and can defend on a solid level. Even if his production declines now there will be an NBA Team like the Pistons taking on that contract because of his intangibles and age. Look out for GG Jackson at the Grizzlies. Mavs could have drafted him last year. 19 years old and 6ft 10. Very talented and if he makes a leap the Grizzlies will be a playoff contender if Ja keeps getting out of trouble. I would love to see DSJ back at the Mavs or Marcus Morris as PF backup. But I think for Nico the best thing right now is wait and see what the market will give you. And that is the first time in years you saw Teams handing out a lot of unguaranteed contracts. So the market is team friendly and you could end up with a very good player on a cheap contract when the desperation level rises.

Honestly I don't want anything for now so they can mesh as a team. If an opportunity comes along to upgrade at the backup PF spot, that's fine, but don't we want to see if O-Max can develop? Let them play and if someone isn't fitting in the system, they're not happy with their playing time, or there's injuries, THEN they can make a move (when it makes sense). The problem with Kleber is expectations. He is what he is and if he comes in just for that, he'd be a great player for them. Kidd leans on him like he's something else, so he always underperforms (except in the Clippers series, which was perfect for what he brings). Keep PJ at 30 minutes, and let O-Max get some time, and use Kleber for when they're struggling defensively against bigger players that Naji can't handle (or foul trouble) and the occasional 3pt shot. Keep him away from the post offensively or defensively. He's the guy who can guard like PJ against perimeter bigs except he's bigger and stronger. But he's not as good a shooter or scorer than PJ and with Klay/Naji/Grimes/Exum you have WAY more than enough people to play the 2 & 3. Let them get time and have Maxi just do his job and don't expect him to come in and carry their outside shooting game or get you rebounds and stops at the rim.

I think Mavs need a reliable backup PF. PJ good but a good backup would be nice to have.

Look at all the guards in the west. Regular season gonna be tough.
@SDesWriter
@SDesWriter 9 күн бұрын
@@TazMusicProductions Luka/Kyrie/Klay/Grimes/Hardy/Naji/Exum....I don't care how "tough" guards and small forwards in the West are. You need your good players to get their minutes to develop and learn to work together. That chemistry is something they didn't have last season and it really hurt them in the playoffs. An injured Luka was just barely good enough to get them through the rounds, but the lack of consistency in minutes screwed them. Kidd needs to tighten that rotation and find who works best together to get through rounds when the long shot isn't falling enough. They dominated Boston (and most teams) in the paint and need to do more of that to accentuate the 3pt shot instead of depending on it. Even Luka is inconsistent from there (and as good as he is, Klay went 0-10 in the Play-In game for GS), so they need an offense that can score to break up opponents runs, even if they're cold from outside.
@TazMusicProductions
@TazMusicProductions 9 күн бұрын
@@SDesWriter I’m fairly certain the Mavs moved away from the 3 pt shot offense as they averaged less than 30 a game after the trade (could be -35). So the 3 pt argument I don’t understand. Lack of consistency in minutes was perpetuated by inconsistent guard play IE THJ/Exum. They were unplayable in the playoffs for the majority. To focus on this 15th roster spot, say Luka/Kyrie miss 10 games each, to keep the same rotation (building consistency) you need another guard on the bench unless you think Exum can fill that role. That would be 20 games you need to keep pace with in the west. So if you don’t add another guards are you really that confident in Exum? Can’t drop multiple games in the west if we are looking to finish with 52-56 wins.

If so we’ve got a logjam of centers on this team and we would need to move Dwight and Maxi too
@SDesWriter
@SDesWriter 9 күн бұрын
@@oblivionpro69 You could get someone to replace Kleber. That's the ONLY spot on the team that could be improved. The Mavs don't have ANYONE who can score in the post and rebound at the SF or PF. The centers are basically useless if they're more than 3' from the basket (although Lively has the touch to develop into a nice post player eventually). But if you could bring in someone that could get you 8-10 pts and 6-8 rebounds, he would be a HUGE help....especially against teams like OKC where a 7'2 Chet just became their power forward. Or they could let O-Max develop and see if he can become that guy.

Issac is a top defender(if healthy and playing) Klay is one of the top 3 point shooters(If healthy and playing) Healthy and Playing isn't just something to ponder on these guys. It's a very real possibility. Issac might break his leg in a bad dream he had from eating to much popcorn. Unbelievable they paid him. He and Robert Williams talent wise might be the best bigs in the game on defense. But I'm not doing more than the TPMLE for either and I really think they are bet vet min guys. I mean unless Orlando thinks they are going to be serious contenders and if Issac can somehow be healthy, he could push them over the edge. But that's a huge If and...No team was gonna pay even half that. And probably not half of half of that. Great Guy, Great Talent. Reminds me a bit of the two centers Portland had. At least one was healthy for 3 or so years and got a chip out of it. But he was in the argument for best big all time. Hard to say what he would have done had his health destroyed most of his career. The other guy can in with one leg shorter than the other.
@SDesWriter
@SDesWriter 9 күн бұрын
And Isaac deserves his money. He is low on points because he wasn't getting time or attempts in their system. He's coming back from that horrific injury and all they wanted was for him to play defense and stay healthy while they were fighting for better playoff positioning with a team that was already in sync. I saw a video where they showed his defensive stops and it was AMAZING! He is basically 7' tall and moves like Lively but is a shot blocker at Chet's level, but with less fouls and way quicker jumping ability. When he's 100% and gets in a more permanent part of the rotation, you'll see his numbers go up dramatically. Telling you right now, as much as we love Lively, Isaac is WAY better and if we could swap he would guarantee a championship (if healthy). Not saying I want to lose such a promising player, just saying that he deserves the money for what he's ABOUT to do.

I appreciated his effort against Tatum and Horford/KP in the Finals. But with his shoulder messed up he was afraid to shoot and passed on even layups so they need to either upgrade or find that niche he's good at an ONLY use him then. Too many real players on this team. Can't be holding back the progress of guys like O-Max or pissing off the new guys who came here by not playing them just to give mediocre bench players their minutes. Find out who can perform and how to use them and get them their minutes. This team doesn't need to do anything else because if Luka/Klay/Kyrie are healthy come playoff time, they are going to destroy teams.....including OKC.

Jonathan Issac contract is only 2 years guaranteed and I don’t think you guys are giving credit to his defense. He is an ELITe defensive player. He shoots the 3 at 37% and his field goal % is 51%. He is injury prone and he only played 15 minutes per game last year but he was a top 3 league defender in those minutes so I think you guys are making too much about this contract. Love the show keep it up guys.

Well since Klay is a two year window(along with Kyrie) and it will be a failure if we don't win it all(we already did the finals now the next is the last step) I want the mavs to make a move for someone most teams would rather have than Klay anyway in Luke Kennard. Whose a better and probably top 3 3point shooter in the league(Yes I know Klay has been in the past, but don't keep forgetting that future is nearing a end) Right now he's very gettable and he will never be what Klay was when Klay was....What he used to be. But he does more than just straight up 3 point chucking(which is where Klay is now). Frankly when you look at it, They really should have extended their window and went with a much younger guy.(and both should have been back ups to the POA Defender DJJ(Which should be needless to say) but isn't to the blind fanboy. Look even if Naji is a better defender..He's not a POA defender. Which is what the mavs desperately needed when they had two guards who couldn't and cannot guard guards. now they have 3 starting. Thats bad(very bad) to worse. but it's over all yas heads. All the sweet sweet dishes ya think nico is cooking for ya and you so quickly forgot how great it was having a top 3 defense. Which you cannot have with 3 bad or less than avg defenders starting for you. The moves were nice additions, but it was quite possibly additions by subtractions. Even the THJ(which is a celebration that ya think couldn't have happened last season when he was the leading 6th man of the year candidate and had a great shooting half season(Which is why I knew his bad streak was going to be very long as well) His salary and those 3 2nds could have been used with a 1st or 2 to get a missing piece. even if it was later at the TDL. Now beside Maxi and Naji, They really have no salary to add in a trade for a decent and paid decently player. Grimes better work out, (and he might get the luka bump) but he has to at least make a decent amount of 3s to get decent or any playing time. I guarantee Hardy is going to play a lot more if he gets his shooting going. Kidd says he loves defense but he doesn't have much patience(Unless he's got no good alternative) for non center players that can't at least hit a decent amount of open 3s.
