I saw them in Hamburg on that tour . They were actualy the opener for the Stanley Clarke Band . What an evening ! Watching the Holdsworth Trio was a dream come true ..somewhat unreal and unforgettable !

It would be fair, after Dorian, Locrian etc, to rename a particular way of playing, the Holdsworthian mode. Not sure which notes it will be based on, but for the music understanding in the next cenuries, it has to be done.

The Holdsworth mode is chromatic scale 🤷🏾♂️

Having seen Allan six times & having watched him closely mostly from close up. First time with nucleus in 1979 was one of the best, I realised he was playing like a man possessed. As they said of Paganini selling his soul to the devil to play as he did. Not that I'm into mystical explanations. It wasn't affectation as with so many other players. He was digging far far far deeper than anyone else & that most players in comparison don't improvise. They just copy each other. Unlike unique one in ten billion genius Allan
