Hi Chris, When the DV1 base first came out they only did one cap although in all the literature they showed two, they were just a bit slow releasing the second one, they did exactly the same with the clear gun, showed two caps but keep the second one for later. The C2 cap makes it a very different gun, much faster which many will like, appreciate the comments, cheers buddy 👍

@Zapsi Hi buddy, If it's solvent base i would say the B+ cap, if it's waterbourn paint i would say the B cap, having said that both will work well but the B cap uses loads of air
@casperchea7865
@casperchea7865 3 жыл бұрын
When manufacturers say hvlp uses less air they need to make it clear to customers in that hvlp aircaps does use less air at the cap to atomize the paint but it requires loads more volume of air at the inlet. HVLP Meaning it needs Higher Volume of air, to create Lower pressure at the aircap, hence why hvlp spraying distance is about an inch closer than conventional aircaps. Lower aircap pressure provides less paint atomization bounce back therefore increases the transfer efficiency by maybe a few percentage points.
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Casper, yes, the air consumption is much higher and i really can't see where manufacturers get there figures from, Devilbiss say the B cap uses less air than the TE20 cap which is absolute rubbish, it uses way more and very much more than the TE10 cap 👍
@casperchea7865
@casperchea7865 3 жыл бұрын
I also own a Dv1 with both hvlp and the B+ aircaps in 1.0, 1.2 & 1.3 size tips. I have done testing on both aircaps and I do find that the hvlp does use slightly less paint than the B+ in terms of needing 1 less coat for full coverage that is. But really it all depends on your application technique, your pressures, distance from the panel and how tight and consistent of your overlapping. The smaller tip size you use the less material it puts out however if you find that it is not wetting the panel enough then you need to tighten your overlaps instead of normally 50% go 70 or even 90% overlap and you can even close up the fan around half or to one full turn.

@@peteshobbies5383 I forgot to reply to your previous response about air consumption compared to the TE20, well if the manufacturer did say that the B cap uses less air (Hvlp) than the TE20 then yes technically its true because all Hvlp caps are standardised to not have more than 1 bar blowing out their designed aircap otherwise it doesn't meet the Hvlp requirements for accreditation. They just failed to mention that due to the inherent design of hvlp caps the gun required more air volume. Also Bigger holes on the horns means that loss in air velocity and due to fluid dynamics regarding atomisation to get finer atomisation you need more velocity and to increase velocity your need smaller holes like the TE20. Have you noticed all aircaps for clear coats are virtually all compliant and not hvlp? Not saying you can't use hvlp for clear but to get less peel you need to crank the air up and then your no longer hvlp compliant LOL... having said all that you need to see what air measurement scale they used to measure the air volume for the aircaps, was is CFM or SCFM? Anyways this is getting too long, but to me I find all this stuff fascinating.

@@casperchea7865 Hi Casper, The information i have which is official Devilbiss sales brochures state the Gti Pro Lite or Tekna Pro Lite uses, this is in metric, TE20 350 LPM, TE10 275 LPM, HV30 465 LPM. The DV1 Base is B 400 LPM and B+ 300 LPM. i did have a HV30 and i have a gut feeling it used around the same as the B cap which is a lot but certainly both the B series caps use more air than the trans tech TE caps although Devilbiss claim less for the B+ over the TE20. I have indeed noticed almost without exception that manufacturers recommended clear coat caps and not HVLP the reason for which i think is what you have said, you need smaller holes to increase the velocity of the air for finer atomisation. I have recently got a Iwata Wider1L which is a midi gun, just a newer version of the LPH 101 true HVLP, it's runs at 1.2 bar at the inlet and is a very good spraygun, it's not as good with clear as some but is certainly acceptable, what is noticeable is the almost complete lack of any overspray, it really is noticeable by it absence , cheers buddy 👍

In my opinion I tend to not take their claims at face value because unless I know their testing methodology and I can replicate the results but I think when it comes to spray guns or aircaps there is just so many variables at play here. Do we know if they test all the aircaps at the Max psi against each other? Also just because every gun is different in terms of the internal airway passage designs , baffle plate air channel plays a big role and also the size of the holes on the nozzle and shape of the nozzles head all play a role In a guns restrictions to how much air flow each different gun requires to give its rated specification the dvi may require less psi at the inlet for the aircap to reach 26psi compared to pro lite hv30 or vice versa or any other gun and air cap combination. However I do agree with you that the hv30 and dv1b do sound very similar indeed but I do remember that whenever I set up my diaphragm pressure regulator so that it's 1.5bar at around 90% open on the guns cheater valve on the dv1 and then when I change my spray gun over to my pro lite hv30 I have to increase the psi at the diaphragm regulator in order for it to be able to crank up to the same 1.5bar at the gun. So what that tells me is that it does definitely use more than dv1 so yeah. Sometimes the job I'm doing requires 3 guns which I keep at the same time in the booth and I have to change back and forth and having to adjust the regulator all the time is annoying, so what I did was put a 1/4" mini diaphragm regulator on the Y piece on my devilbiss pro 650v on my belt not on the end of the spray gun hose as I don't want twin regulator right at the bottom of my gun LOL, your probly thinking why not have the pressure open up much higher and just close up the cheater valve on each gun? Well I've found that having the pressure at the diaphragm regulator set alot higher than say 60psi I have to deal with pressure dropping due to our other workshop employees using the air. I just felt like the more I can control the variables in painting the less chance I have to deal with issues. You see I always paint base coat at the lowest pressure it will take the aircap to atomise it to an acceptable level, reason is that you use less paint material coz of less overspray, and sometimes all it takes is 0.2 pressure drop and it's spraying out chunky. I was looking at wider4 last week on ebay but I ended up buying a ls400 entech instead coz of all the good reviews out there and also I head it uses less material 😅. Anyways I'm still waiting in anticipation for it but since covid postage services is so agonisingly slow...

Have you ever tried using the DV1 clear at a lower pressure on the digital gauge? I've gone down to 1.2bar and still get a great finish with maybe a little more peel but it's hardly noticeable 👍

Hi John, no, only really used the clear gun for clear at around 1.4 to 1.5 on the digital gauge which is 2 bar at the base, i have recently done a video using the clear gun for both base and clear, just to show people it can do both if they only want/afford one gun and i turned it down to 1.3 which was much better for solvent base. Out of interest, 2 bar at the base with the B cap on the clear gun only shows 1.0 bar on the digital gauge which is what Devilbiss say it should read. As i say in the video, I'm am starting to think true HVLP is more for waterbourn than solvent but I'm still working on that, hopefully i got across how different the C2 cap is to the C1, i will do a back to back video when i can but it needs to be more or less the same item so people can see the difference in speed, certainly more of a difference than Sata O and I, cheers mate 👍

Hey Pete, I saw a video somewhere where he was using the B cap and like you he was using 1bar on the digital gauge but he thought that he was spraying at ultra low pressures boasting that the DV1 is the only gun in the world that can spray base at 1bar 🙄 if he took the time to fit a analogue gauge to the gun he would find out that he was using the same pressure as everyone else 🤷‍♂️🤠😂 With my setup I'll never be using a true HVLP cap, I think these are ok for body shops as it's a legal requirement at some places due to the transfer efficiency rates of the gun, something like that anyway 🤔🤭 laters bud 👍

As you say, he's spraying at 2 bar anyway so not particularly low pressure considering you can get away with 1.3 to 1.4 on a Sata HVLP 5500x at the base of the gun and there are a far few 1 bar guns about, admittedly not full size though, cheers mate 👍
