DEVILDRIVER frontman Dez Fafara says about "Through the Depths":
"'Through the Depths' is a conversation between a higher power and humans regarding the power of thinking ideas into existence, but being very careful of being arrogant behind those wants and needs.
The first lines give this away: “Attention attention, you’re seeking, you've asked for, it’s given" (the higher power says).
Then the lines of the chorus are that same higher power speaking to humans, saying: 'through the depths to the ascension, nothing you wouldn’t do for my attention, held to the fire it’s not my crime, you've pinned it on me for the last time.' Meaning - don’t blame the Gods (pin it on them) for your fuck ups. Meaning - put it out there and take steps to attain goals and take accountability.
This track is the essence of Dealing With Demons Vol. II, and the conversations within the record get way deeper than even this.

Devildriver was the favourite band of my best friend, who sadly took his own life. He got dealt a shitty hand all through life, especially growing up. I miss him dearly, and i regret not being there for him when he needed help the most. It is hard to help others when you feel like you're stuck in a hole yourself, but still. RIP Richard. May we meet again under better circumstances.

I became a metalhead in 2003. Life was Devildriver, Lamb of God, and Chimaira. Those were the holy trinity for me. Chimaira unfortunately dismembered, but luckily LOG and DD are still cranking out music 20 years later! No album will compare to the first 3 of each band because of the impact it had on me, but I shit you not I am just as excited about this new album as I was about Fury. The last 2 DD albums were my least favorite, but this new single brings me back - not to Fury or LKW, but a Winter Kills era which was also fucking incredible. Still rolling with ya, Devildriver!

One of the best moments of my life was after a concert when the floor cleared, Dez came out and thanked me for helping him make a great show! The crowd was not into it until I started screaming his lyrics, running the pit and picking everyone up for surfing. The people I brought were stunned. Ill never forget it. I never felt like more of a badass.

Been a big fan of Devildriver since 2003 or so. They lost me a little on Pray for Villains and definetely on Beast but have enjoyed just about anything since. Actually they were the last bigger show I went to since Covid until this year.

This is a powerful song, and as a Christian here? It makes me think of how the Old Testament is basically God telling us "Guys, I love you all, but you are TRYING MY PATIENCE WITH YOU." I interpret that as Him showing tough love to His greatest creation to help us get back in line. The message of this song where God is telling us "Hey, *you* did that, don't look at Me--take responsibility for yourself," makes a lot of sense to me, because it's when people think they have it all under control is when we're most vulnerable to sin and complacency, among other things. Overconfidence comes from pride, and as it says in Proverbs 16:18? "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall." That's what that's making me think, anyway.
