Oh yeah, that's right. By the time Kiryu showed up to stop Ichiban from beating someone to death in a rage he had already seen his dragonfish tatoo, and he must have connected the dots with Nishiki seeing how he couldn't hide his smile after seeing it. If that's indeed the case it would give this whole moment quite some more weight from Kiryu's perspective. He managed to stop a new man bearing a koi tatoo from going down the dark path his own brother went into. I wonder if Kiryu sees in Ichiban some of the kind of man he hoped Nishiki would become in his absence. Not like Kiryu would ever bring that up to anyone, even less so to Ichiban.

I put both Ichiban and Saeko into host and hostess and Namba and used Eri in that fight. and yeah Namba did eat shit but with 3 ice attackers Kiryu went down without too much issue

I mean, the poor guy literally sacrifice his chane of a normal peaceful life over and over again because of Tojo and Omi problems. If a chance to finally put a end on the criminal actions of both groups in a good way appears Kiryu definitely would like to take some part to made that happen. Like he actually did. So yeah, besides wanting Kiryu in the game just because he's awesome, his presence made total sense.

Fun Fact: Kiryu will never hit women. I was not prepared for this fight but once I discovered he completely ignored Saeko, I put Eri in and I won. Felt so cheap after though 😭😭😭😭

My headcanon is that he probably wore out Saeko in reality by wasting her stamina. Probably from dodging her attacks or no selling them. It sucks that we’ll never get Kiryu in Tekken because Nagoshi says that Kiryu never hits women (or females in general) despite doing it in Kiwami during a substory and slapping Haruka. :(

Jesus. You don't just have to fight him, you get to be on the recieving end of "Come at me if you want to die!" Plus, that damage he does, and how much he resists certain attack types, but it seems appropriate for going up against the biggest legend of the Tojo Clan. (of course a Dragon is weak to ice...) Also, I love the fact he cycles through the styles he's learned over the years, ending with his classic Dragon style, as though to say 'You've learned all this over the years with me...and now it's time to put you to the ultimate test.'

The truly scary thing is that Kiryu isn't even remotely trying in this fight and it's clear to tell when he's only doing two hits when you consider the combo's he's really capable of, nevermind the weapons he's capable of wielding, plus all the training over the years AND the fact he doesn't use a single heat action during the fight either. If it weren't for the government, Kiryu could have easily resolved this whole Ryo Aoki problem and beaten the lieutenants long before they started causing shit.

It may or may not be a common known fact but I find it cool that kiryu’s AI was programmed to NOT hurt the girls. Like no joke if the girls are in your party you’re basically inmortal as he will not hurt them.

Well not really, because that shortens the window of targets for Kiryu and if Ichiban goes down, it's game over. you have Saeko and Eri out Ichiban becomes the target 1/2 the time and higher risk of losing.

@@ping5258 I find that Nanba is capable of surviving a majority of the fight as long as you spam Malodorus Breath to lower Kiryu’s attack throughout the fight. But he WILL NOT survive the Beast style phase as he gets two-shotted, so it’s important to switch Nanba out during that part

Well, the obvious reason must be because they (RGG Studios) hadn't thought of Gaiden. For the lore, my guess is he wanted to test Ichiban as Kiryu. Daidoji maybe knows that Ichi never met Kiryu before (and because of that, Ichi and the gang also didn't know about Morning Glory kids), so maybe they just let Kiryu do that, i guess? I'm pretty sure someone in the Daidoji was reluctant with Kiryu being himself meeting Ichiban, but probably Hanawa convinces them? There's many possibilities during that story gap, so mine is definitely not 100% correct

I honestly believe that the thing that makes this fight so much better? It's not just that Kiryu utilizes his other styles and such... It's that you KNOW the ins and outs of the styles from the get-go. You know that Rush is the evasive style, that Beast is the heavy-hitter... The rest of the games have basically been a giant study session into this very fight.

Even though ichiban lost, the fact that he sent Kiryu sliding backwards even if it’s a little bit, speaks volumes to his potential of strength. I love that after the fight when Ichiban calls him the real deal, Kiryu himself even says he got a feel for Ichiban and he has a way to go, and says someday he will become the real deal. Kiryu sees potential for Ichiban to be as powerful as him.

I’m so happy that Kiryu uses all his three styles back from 0 and Kiwami, both of these are my first Yakuza games. However, I find it weird that they give Kiryu’s Brawler set with the Dragon Engine combat from 6 and Kiwami 2. Yet, they give the Brawler moveset to Kaito in Judgement. His Dragon of Dojima moveset in here is the same one before Dragon Engine was a thing.

I really like that Ichiban has the same VA as Nishiki. On top of that, his outfit is a reverses colour scheme of Kiryu's. Really like the symbolism that he's both similar, while being different than Kiryu. I'm definitely not the first to notice this, but haven't seen any comments as such.
