I think it's the way the game introduces him so late, and the story is already incredibly long. It really hypes up Akiyama's story with Investigation and then they suddenly swap you to a new 17-yen guy playing baseball for an hour. It feels so detached from the main story that I just let the cutscene play itself or spammed the skip dialogue button cuz I was too lazy to read the dialogue anymore. Until Daigo unmasks himself that I started to get interested in his story (which is already near the end of his chapter).

There's GOING to be an animated Yakuza movie some day soon. Did everyone see the Sega "cinematic universe" animated logo that they're now using in the Sonic films? Something's coming now, there is far, FAR too much money in this franchise, even after Kiryu story ended. Something BIG is going to happen over the next few years. Sega has been licencing SO many of their franchises for movies, and many of them have been commercial hits too at the box office. It's GONNA happen, I KNOW something is gonna come, there's at least a plan for it, but I BET they're just getting some people together for such a massive project. They SHOWED Kiryu speaking to Nishiki in a cutscene in the new Sega animated logo for the new Sonic films ... They're NOT just bragging or putting it there for decoration ... Something is being planned over the next decade, this movie would be a MASSIVE hit in Japan, and if it was a success in the US and Western box offices too ... There's just too much money behind such an idea. I don't think it's a coincidence that they put Kiryu from Yakuza 0 in that game logo, they wouldn't put THAT much effort into it. Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, but I mean if there's money behind it, are people saying that they would NOT do it? Half the people voicing the actors were celebrities too weren't they, particularly the 3 Dojima Lieutenants in Yakuza 0 ... Something is at least being planned over the next decade or so, Sega have seen the money behind the MCU, and they know that they have IPs with such broad western appeal ... Sonic was just the start of this, there's something coming, I'm just SURE of it now ...

Actually, that's why I started liking this franchise. I wouldn't be drawn to this game if it was entirely serious and there wasn't a single unrealistic element to it. I think the appeal of the yakuza series lies in blurring the lines between reality and unreality. While the series deals with real-life issues, it doesn't hesitate to insert otherworldly, unrealistic, and ridiculous elements. Sick of serious games, I needed a game series that tried these adventures and became a fan as soon as I found out about this series. Some people complain about RGG putting in unrealistic elements, but I want them to continue to deal with unrealistic and surreal elements.

I love the weird fantasy / sci fi shit that pops up once in every Yakuza game. Also! I loved the camera work.

Trails is long not specifically on how many hours it takes to finish the story but it is consistently longer than most games in terms of overall "word count". Persona 5 whole playthrough maybe longer than most trails games but basically the word count is not nearly as dense as with trails. Persona 5 more so prolonged its gameplay mostly because of how its game loop works.

The existence of the supernatural being canon is honestly one of my favorite aspect of the franchise outside of gameplay, story and characters. I really really hope they continue to put these types of substories in future games (or knowing RGG they could catch us off guard by putting ghosts in the main story, who knows with them at this point)

I really do wish RGG does something with horror/supernatural genre with more melodrama than just sidequest or Dead Souls.

I was really surprised that chat and Leon ranked 8 above B. Bryce is literally one of the worst main villains in the Yakuza series. His plan is terrible, and even Ebina points that out at the end. Starting from chapter 10, when the teams are divided, all Ichiban does is try to save the girl, and like in looney tunes, she’s taken away at the last moment twice in a row, which causes the story to stall. The pacing is very strange. We’re taken to Japan, and just when you hope the whole team will come together and you’ll be able to play as them, we’re sent back. What stopped the creators from locking Lani on Bryce's island by the end of Kasuga’s plot? That way, it could have been a classic "rescue the princess from the castle" story - you could even have built tension, like "hurry or he’ll kill her," and so on. He could have saved her with Yamai’s help, and then they would’ve all returned to Japan together and gone, like a mini-army, to the Millennium Tower. As a result, Kasuga himself becomes a secondary character in his own game and doesn't develop at all. Like if Kiryu’s story was never finished in the previous game, or in the six games before it. Ebina’s character is fine, you can understand him, but Kiryu suddenly showing collective responsibility for all the Yakuza, kneeling in tears begging for forgiveness, feels pathetic. It’s hard to believe Kiryu ever cared about some punk who reduces both good and bad people to absolutes. That moment feels very out of character for him. For the first time in the entire series, I got goosebumps from cringe.
