Great review and I like all the built in adjustments controls and quick release plate. I think I've finally come around and now leaning toward a glidecam vs motorized gimbal

I can't buy the west in Germany. But for this price, it can very handle cameras up to 9 kilo? Or is that the weight with steadycam?

Tom, thanks for the review! Do you think this device is still relevant? If so, in what scenarios is it best to use? In what scenarios would Glidecam be preferable to Ronin? One more question Tom: what do you think is the best stage to use for filming long concerts or artist performances? (1-2 hours) It is extremely difficult to wear Ronin for such a long time.
@TomAntos10 ай бұрын
This is still a great tool if you want to stabilize your shots without relying on batteries, electronics. Specially if you are in harsh environment where it's very cold or very hot and humid etc, where electronics often fail. For long performance shots on a stage especially I would suggest a completely different setup using a camera on a motorized and remote controlled crane or a cable cam that can be remotely and comfortably controlled for the whole 2 hours.

Was this DGS given to you to try out or did you actually dole out 700 bucks for it ??? It definitely has some nice features, but I'm pretty sure Devin himself could get equally amazing footage with either the $66 Neewer Steadicam or the Glidecam HD 2000..... but if you need to support more than 6.6 pounds then that would be a different story. I'd like to own the DGS but the price would need to come down since I'm never pressed for time when I work. I own the Zhiyun Crane and it is nice but I love the glidecam for certain types of footage. Nice review Tom, thank you !

Is this a good purchase today? I don't really like how hard it is to setup a gimbal, so was thinking about getting this for a Canon C200

I've never seen a cinematic Setup on Camera like Mattebox, followfocus, rod Support mounted on a Steadycam in KZbin. All the Cameras mounted on Steadycams i've seen are without this items... Im still asking me "why"? Sun rays/Light are flying away from Lens if they see Lens on Glidecam? 😁

Lots of ergonomic, ease-of-use adjustments, I like it a lot. Not enough to replace my HD-2000, but hopefully it keeps up sales for them. I've seen those knockoffs for $100.

Glidecams and other similar types of rigs generally support more weight, don't rely on batteries or electronics. The downside is they take a skilled operator to get good results, it takes time to balance and it has to be periodically adjusted, but the quality of the results are only limited by the operator's skill. Ronins and other gimbals require smaller cameras, but can still work with some Reds and Alexa Minis, and they're easier for a novice to get decent results. The downside is they still have to be balanced, you're restricted by battery life, electronics have a higher chance of failing, and the quality is limited to the quality of the system.

What are the benefits of this vs the cheap $150 ones from ebay? One thing I have noticed is that on my cheapo glidecam it's not that easy to fine tune. have to loosen in, position it and tighten it. Is there other benefits that makes this worth it in your professional opinion?

apart from that. have you used this model?

Hey Tor Ivan Boine, In an older video, Tom reviewed the Came 150, which is also a monopod. I have the Came 200, which has feet at the monopod and can hold a little more weight. I absolutely love it. I had a Flycam Nano DSLR HD Stabilizer before, and I had to replace a lot of the parts with stronger parts from my local hardware store. The Came 200 has notches which can be really useful for stabilizing quickly if needed. Basically, the Flycam fell apart on me, and the Came 200 is really well built. Glidecam has a similar setup at the bottom (the weights) as the Flycam I had, difference is, the Glidecam will not fall apart on you. I just ordered the Flycam Galaxy Vest Tom reviewed, and will be using it with the Came 200. Hope this helps you out, and please let me know if you have any other questions. - Paul Harwood

The trouble with the traditional steadicams like this one, is that they arnt that steady. They give a very ugly, artificial jiddering to the image that I find very distracting. 3 axis with a stadicam arm is the best bet in my opinion. These traditional stabilisers are great for controlling up and down motion, but terrible for anything else (unless you have a very good operator. 3 axis has a problem with the up and down that can be fixed with a arm (+$1200)
