Fighters need to stop cutting so much weight and fight closer to their walk around weight, so cutting the weight won’t be an excuse. It’s definitely valid when a guy has to lose in excess of 25 pounds in 8-12 weeks. In truth, Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia should be fighting at 154 or 160. Errol Spence should be fighting at 168 or 175. I’m tired of seeing these guys talk about cutting weight when all people know it’s a problem. It’s 100% the fighter’s fault for choosing to fight at a lighter weight trying to get a size advantage in the ring. Ryan Garcia didn’t weight drain Devin Haney. Haney fights at 140, so it’s expected to meet the weight. It’s not a 3 lb difference folks. By the time Ryan rehydrated he was prolly over 153-155lbs. You have to cut down but he didn’t want the title. He wanted that bag and the accolades that come with it. I like both guys but Garcia is managed by two of the all time greats so they knew what they were doing. He didn’t want to lose so you do everything to win. And win he did. Brutal fashion. This will be a rematch down the road but Devin gotta go to 147 where there are sharks and killer whales. Devin needs to a warm up before facing top tier - heavy hitting opponents again.
