I think the problem is not just with AI, but the purpose of it. We cannot forget that we live in the world where everything that companies want is profit over everything. This is the logic of our society: everything that can be trade will become a product, and every product you wanna to explore and profit as much as possible. And since this is the logic of the society all the companies will do the same.
@felixhaag1335

I think a very central part of what you said - "profit over everything" - must be overcome at some point. And I am not talking communism or anything like that. But there are collaborative ways to run a business, where your workfoce is a signifcant part of your shareholder. It is certainly not a silver bullet, but I think we have to come up with genuine ideas of we want to work and live together in the future.

@@felixhaag1335 it's impossible to overcome this in a capitalist society. If a company is not profit driven, it will come a profit driven one and will take the first one out of the business. Using unfair competition (see how amazon takes small businesses out), making lobby, or pure straight buying the first one. Everything is a product and we need money for everything, this is the issue, not a specific person or company, is the logic of the society.

Saying that AI will put developers out of work, is like saying jackhammers and cranes will be construction workers out of work. Neither are true. The only thing that will change, is the scale of what we can build. The way I see it, the scale of what we can accomplish is now orders of magnitude more substantial. Developers will remain employed, and they will have the added bonus of not needing to spend so much time on tedious minutiae and repetitive tasks.

I would say it's way overhyped. Like the whole thing with thinking in the 80s that we surely would have flying cars in 2015. And look at us now. 10 years later and it's not even close. Besides, don't be afraid of using the tools. That way you figure out it's what IS possible AND the LIMITS. Neural networks has build in error margins, and there will always need to be someone that can actually understand what AI generates. The way I see it is that you use it as a tool to speed up your workflow. But you still need to know your computer science to see when AI messes up, and believe me, it does. AI IS NOT ALIVE. It's an algorithm that GUESSES as close as possible the end result wanted.

Honestly as a new developer, I think that the jobs that will be replaced are alot of the frontend developer roles. So much is focused on React. That in the end your really just rendering data, you are not doing the same type of creation that you would if you are a backend dev. I find as a new developer some of my co students can create a say client dashboard BUT can they create a fully thought formed app? Nope. I know this may be a bit off but I think backend devs are going to be fine. I started to focus mostly on go. Next.js is WHY? Gatsby is no longer being updated WHY? And seasoned fronend devs will be able to use AI to do the work of the entry level people like myself do. It'll be harder to move into the backend for them if they dont start learning now.

IMO it is the other way around. With all of these AI "items" being open sourced and many will be or likely to be. Like how the internet technology is based on open source. Like how there are paid programs and open sourced "competitors". Even if they chose "don't use this to train", there will be others that will do it. Just like pirate sites. If I'm not mistaken, OpenAI did this in their research for GPT2

How could DAVIN or another shit be trained to create a really good solution though? Or tomorrow senior developers and architects are going to teach LLMs to make this world beautiful? Or maybe products are going to share their code to make this world better? Or maybe all the open source is going to document each fucking line of the code to make the training process better (please don't tell that it is going to be trained on pull requests which are well-explained)?

I think that artificial intelligence is another way for people not to have to think for themselves. AI fits seamlessly into the ranks already occupied by priests, gurus, politicians, etc. Tell me what to do, thinking always gives me such a headache. But with artificial intelligence, you can do it in real time. Depending on the subscription, there is a little more truth, or accuracy. Bad times for gurus. They now have to come up with a new business model. The good news is that we have the choice to break away. The bad news is that the majority of us have stuck with it for millennia.
