I watched the video immediately once it was uploaded (woke up at an ungodly hour to do so) and it blew my fucking mind. The man is on a whole different level, this song shouldn't be able to exist in the way it does. I'm fairly certain had anyone else even attempted to do something like Genesis it would have sounded like an absolute mess, but somehow Devy took complete chaos, harnessed it and fused it together into something cohesive and amazing.

i have to say this, i know we (the Devin Fanbase) tend to be a little bit hysterical but in all objectivity, who does this kind of music nowadays with so much craftiness, so much skilled in every bit of the process. And yeah you made a very good point, it has the power of Bohemian Rhapsody. One day people will understand how magnificient this guy is.

and the beauty of this is this isn't the longest song on the album. he's got track 10 on the album running about 22 minutes long broken into 6 individual but linkable parts... additionally Devy has claimed Chad Kroger will be doing vocals on track 6 on the album too... the whole thing is going to be balls out insane... This is essentially Devy's midlife crisis and it's going to be an absolute fucking sonic juggernaut to behold and I cannot wait!
@heavymetalrybakina5 жыл бұрын
So suddenly we all like Chad, now that he's managed to schmooze Devin?
@shadowbrisbane5 жыл бұрын
No suddenly we’re more accepting of him because he prevented Devin from going down the pathway he wound up going down with Nickelback and selling out. He told Devin he had to be true to himself and his music or his fans would recognize he wasn’t sincere in the music and hate it. Empath EXISTS because Chad told Devin to follow his heart with his music. THAT is why we’re willing to give him a chance on this record
@heavymetalrybakina5 жыл бұрын
@@shadowbrisbane He needed CHAD to tell him the OBVIOUS. Kinda scary, right?
@toxendon5 жыл бұрын
@@heavymetalrybakina I mean... I can understand him. He has the potential to earn some serious money by going more mainstream and he has a family. I don't think we can put ourselves in that spot and understand the pressure without being there. Also, Devin discovered that Chad never sold out. Chad is making the music he is passionate about, and it just happens to be what we perceive as watered down country rock. For Devin, it's cosmic opera ambient prog metal or whatever you want to call whatever he is doing. I wouldn't blame Devin for wanting to earn some big amounts of cash compared to all the work he puts in after all these years, but I'm glad he decided not to go down that road
@heavymetalrybakina5 жыл бұрын
@@toxendon Devin is a very strange case. Nearly always bands that sell out create garbage, but somehow this guy makes great music even when pressured to do what he doesn't want to do. I understand that he has financial worries, but Empath was supposed to be a statement about artistic independence, not selling out. Yet, the song Genesis simply lacks the kind of emotional depth I'm used to from Townsend and I even find it commercial in some sense, because it's so cheesy and easy to listen to. Maybe the album will be great as a whole, but that one song is just timid and child-like, and not in a good way. As for Chad never selling out, couldn't agree less. He absolutely did sell out, his entire career has been about making money, which is so obvious.

It's like he vomited his brain juice on a spinning fair art and seven minutes later this! The video idea encapsulates this notion for me with constant everchanging bombardment of visual representations of mood swings and style shifts and the ants walking on your brain as he incorporates several styles into cohesion with Genesis. The Freedom of an Artist to risk and create his own vision should not be lost on us. Its very Meta to react to his own creation. Fuck Yea!
