Very happy to see Scott give a lesson on his own, just like his lessons back in the day. This is the Scott I recognize. No over the top sensationalism, just a great, well explained lesson. I had stopped watching for a while but if there are more lessons like this one I'll subscribe again.

Thanks for teaching people things on the bass, even if it's for beginners/self-taught people; it's very well done, and pedagogical. Unlike some other bassists on KZbin who either hate speech, or are stuck in a meme craze as they are honestly as healthy for the brain as those Subway Surfer videos.

started using a musicians glove couple of weeks ago on both my right and left hands and the difference in my playing is amazing. Had issues with both my hands being very cold and the skin being super dry. Used to warm up under hot water and needing to stretch a lot just to get started. Now within 10 minutes my hands are warm and supple, the blood circulation is vastly improved. I take my right glove off after ten minutes, while I sometimes just leave it on my left hand for the whole one hour daily practice. Thank you ! 🙏🏼

I will do this sometimes when I'm creating a new bass line for a song. For practicing I like to play along with a tune that has a easy cord progression to follow. Something like Cortez the killer and then flipping the octives around but still using the correct note pattern in the correct time, for instance playing the low 5th instead of the high 5th and so on. I like to do this because sometimes it's less boring to play along with a tune that you already know and love. This will make you a better improviser on live gigs too.
@Frankk18pty11 күн бұрын
Correct! I do the same with Heaven by Los Lonely Boys and Stumblin In by Chris Norman and Suzi Quatro. Easy songs to jam and alter the basslines and feel different grooves within the same melody. I´ll give a shot to your recommendation, never heard it before so I´ll see how that goes :). Greetings from Panama. #NoTrebleGang

Super easy tip for generating random chord progressions: You can actually decide a key signature by rolling two dice and converting the number to a key (1=C, 2=C#, 3=D and so on). Then using only one die you can select the chords by converting the numbers to scale degrees. Regular six-sided dice are totally fine for this because the seventh scale degree is so rare (its usually in a II-V-I in a subdominant function resolving to the the 6th scale degree (relative minor) so its technically not a VII but a II/VI or a V/III in minor)

Do you wear out the finger tips of your gloves easily? Mine wear out pretty fast. Maybe I need a different brand? I use these too for 2 reasons. #1 I have osteoarthritis in my finger joints and the compression helps with the constant pain in my fingers. #2 my hands don't get clammy on the neck and it's easier and smoother to move around the neck, especially outside in warm weather. Thanks for the great channel!

I like this exercise but if you have the major modes down it’s cool to start to push one chord shape. So for example using the c major scale but every scale degree is a minor chord so this progression would look like C minor, D minor, A minor, G minor. Opens up your understanding and ears to those key shifts and you can start placing alternate scales in between

I know you're going to be thrown off because "wtf is Commander Meouch" but trust me, look up TWRP, listen to Groove Crusaders, Planet Bass, Business Tips, Superior Moves, I mean really I could list all their songs but I'm giving you some of my favourites. And watch him live, you'll know he's the real deal, despite the costume. Like the fact that this guy feels unknown in the broader world of bass is a crime. Dude is elite

Hey Scott and SBL family, I've been looking for a video like this for about 3-5 years now and I'm so glad this popped up in my feed. I've been struggling to find out what I need to move into next and ways to learn more theory and this video has given so much. Thank you for the video! However I'm not quite sure how the chords are created/found? Can you make a video teaching the simple technique to find chords and or understanding the shapes that create the chords? If there is a video in the SBL website please link me!

I'll take the Stingray. Probably the only one I would be interested in. But honestly the little thing for the video showed the root, the tird and the fifth. What bass player don't know that by now. Everone seems to want boxes or patterns. Something "canned". As a bass player you need to know every note on that fretboard and how it relates to guitar chords. Root notes, the Thirds, the Fourths, the Fifths and the Octaves. When I played guitar a chord was just a chord. When I started playing Bass I really started realizing the aspects of the notes in the guitar chords. Pretty much guitar chords are the root, the third, fourth, fifth and octaves on major chords. Minor a diminished fifth more or less. Scales on bass? OK. Why? If you know the root then you should know everything you need to play Bass. But the first step is knowing every note on the fret board.
