Traditional etiquette is to throw the glove at the feet of the challengee who then picks it up and slaps the challenger and choices the weapons, hence the phrase "throw the gauntlet".

It depends on the location. Different places had different customs regarding the gloves or if gloves were used at all. Some would have the challenger slap the other person with the glove. Sometimes it was just thrown. Either way, once the gloves were off, things got interesting.

"Throwing down the gauntlet" is a reference to challenges issued by those wearing armor (a cloth glove is not a gauntlet) and is not related to traditions involving slapping (I doubt you'd get all the way to an organized duel after smacking someone in the face with a chunk of metal).

So the big question: Did the editors do a lot of the yellow leaves falling in post after the on site team noticed some of the tree had shed onto the ground and came up with the idea, or is it one of the runners up the tree off camera frantically shaking a branch as Alex enters the scene?

Seriously though, if you look at the different shots you can see the leaves aren’t falling in all of them, and it doesn’t look like any leaves fall on Alex. I’m guessing most of the leaves had already fallen earlier that day, and they just drizzled some leaves in front of the camera lens for some of the walking shots.

I disagree. This series got some great moments. I loved the blind folded task (especially with the bet), the "high 5" task, the bangers on the cement mixer , the "House Queens", Bridget's TM persona in general. And in my opinion "Find the 10 ducks" was the second best series opener in TM UK history. Also this series left us with the "the mysterious aubergine task" - forever. :(
