my only issue with her rebrand is that its very obviously supposed to be a distraction from the stuff that came out about her a couple months ago with the kid pop group she was managing where she was (allegedly) incredibly abusive to the kids and families involved, including forcing one of them to come to practice very soon after having surgery and telling them to put a pad on when they started bleeding from their belly button. did we all just collectively forget about that????? the distraction unfortunately seems to be working

Yeah, you don’t need context to think it’s cringe but it gets really bad when it is clearly a distraction from the XOMG Pop stuff. If it was just cringe, I don’t think it would have gotten as much attention. The rumor of Jojo saying that she wrote Karma started in the replies of one of the first viral tweets that “exposed” her for “stealing” Karma. The tweet was of the original Karma video saying “jojo stole karma” and the reply said “so she stole this song and then lied and said she wrote it about a girl she liked and then called it gay pop” BUT someone replied to that reply and clarified that Jojo was talking about a different song from her album when she said the comment about it being about a girl she liked. But the original reply went viral and the context of the second reply was lost to history

Most of the time I don’t have a consistent income and need to turn to other things to make rent and pay bills. i agree with pretty much all of your points but i believe most of the controversy is coming from her defending creators like colleen ballinger, shane dawson, and james charles, but even more so, the toxic environment she created for the kids working in XOMG pop! she (allegedly, you can look up the article) would yell at all of the children in the pop group and try to make them cry, allowed other employees to do this, constantly overworked the children and verbally abused them, and one girl (iirc her name is Lia?) had to move from texas to join the group and has spina bifida, and before a surgery was overworked and started bleeding through her belly button and was told to put a maxipad on it so as to not ruin the costume. Lia's mother was the first to talk about this awful environment for the XOMG pop kids i believe.

I think the problem is if you go to e.g. the comments on JoJo's video, or just generally around KZbin with the general comments whenever the song comes up e.g. when it's used in a short, the silly "she stole the song" comments and the variants of "she was a child star she's not a bad girl" are like 99.9% of all comments. I can only assume it's mostly actual kids commenting and that's why, but it very much gives the impression these are the main topics of discussion and they do seem to be what most people are talking about, as an outsider who knew almost nothing about JoJo Siwa before this recent stuff. Ofc adults (and older kids with more critical thinking skills) who are particularly interested often learn the stuff you referenced and that's all completely valid criticism. But it definitely feels like the vast majority of the discussion is in fact regarding silly/misinformed or surface level stuff, that anyone who actually looks into and considers logically for more than a few seconds will see doesn't make sense. Again as a person who didn't know much about JoJo, I saw the many thousands of comments that she "stole the song and claimed she wrote it" but then looked and all I could find presented as "evidence" was an quote where she specifically talked about how she was excited to record the song from another songwriter. TLDR totally agree her potential abusive behaviour should be the number one complaint, but because it's the internet (and probably most people discussing are younger children with limited critical thinking skills) it *isn't* the primary topic, instead silly, minor or illogical complaints are what's mostly being talked about.

To her one credit on the gay pop genre thing, I think I get where she’s trying to come from? I think she doesn’t mean to say that gay pop isn’t a thing already, but she wants it as an OFFICIAL genre of music. Asking anyone who a gay pop artist is will get an easy response out of context clues: who is a pop artist who sings about gay stuff? But Jojo wants to be able to walk into a music store and go to the section labeled GAY POP so she can grab the newest Lady Gaga album lol.

I definitely feel like the problem everyone has with this new "era/version" of JoJo Siwa is that it is so obviously planned/fabricated but JoJo tries to pass it off as the most authentic thing she's ever done. Again I agree with you that there are many songs floating around the music industry that many artists have tried and then have have been picked up by others. the main problem here is JoJo is wanting these songs to be a true expression of her life/ex's when they clearly were not written by her/with those intentions.

The only part I can’t figure out is when Jo talked about how they changed the bridge. She’s like “the first version of the bridge was a long droning note, but then I wanted to spice it up, and changed it to what it is in the final release”. And the bridge in the final release is the exact same as the Britt version.

Agree! I think the final track is badly produced, sounds super dated and childish, and in general her whole rebrand is giving edgy tween who just learned about sex and swear words. But she hasn't done anything wrong or unusual for the music industry. It's weird how we constantly have hit songs which are covers or use samples or interpolations, but once in a while people will decide one specific example is stealing.

It’s usually just an excuse for people having fun in a way that’s seen as “abnormal” if that’s all Jojo did I wouldn’t care.
