Devo performing Gut Feeling/Slap Your Mammy, live at The Observatory in Los Angeles, exclusively on Moshcam.
David Bowie dubbed them "the band of the future", Brian Eno produced their debut and everyone from Nirvana to Soundgarden and Rage Against The Machine have covered them.
A contagious collision of New Wave punk, arty experimentalism and subversive politics, these music mavericks burst onto the world scene in the late '70s and turned pop music on its head forever with hits like 'Whip It', 'Girl U Want', 'Mongoloid' and 'Beautiful World'.
So when the chance to film these icons in action at The Observatory at Santa Ana, California came up earlier this year, we jumped at it. Needless to say, they didn't disappoint, delivering a spectacle jammed with hits old and new, gloriously oddball antics and their mental mascot, Booji Boy.
"The Mayan calendar was wrong," frontman Jerry Casale told the crowd on the night. "The world is not going to end this year so you're stuck with us for a long time."
We wouldn't have it any other way, Jerry.

Once more thing: there are many artists can't go on without drugs to pump up in stage and acheive success, but of course it isn't everlasting. That's why Devo across time, even 'they're old man, but they're still on it. Healthy life, no drugs and get good culture make difference! My prayers for Casale family!

I wandered the Australian outback 1982 in my old Holden V8 panel van, working in the construction game. This track was on a DEVO album, stuck in my cars tape player, and played over again for 10 months before the impact of hitting a kangaroo dislodged it from the cars cassette player. Summer heat, beer, coppers, km after km of travelling chasing a $$ stopping in pubs for a few weeks, a wonderful time in my life as a young man. Now 63 and still listening to DEVO, who would have thought ?

My favorite band for so damned close to 40 years I hate to even think about it. How many bands made a profound and lasting influence, all the while saying things that need to be said AND managed to have a "hit" while doing it? They brought counterculture to the mainstream. I met Bob2 a couple times and found him to be a most friendly and genuine guy. When he struck the opening chords of "my song" I was in heaven, mesmerised by the hypnotic quality of this song. Bob2 left us too early and "my song" just isn't the same without his energy. I still have the radiation suit he gave me at the Congress theater in Chicago the night before they played at Lollapalooza. Gut Feeling. THE best Devo song ever.

En 2019, nous en sommes là. Les tatoos pour nous différencier ("c'est moi"). La consommation et les apparences sont reines...
