This one gave me chills at the show in LA tonight. From the moment you said “step-dad,” it brought me to a place where I thought about my own step-dad, and how much there is in that relationship that I haven’t explored or even spoken about with anyone. And just hearing you say those words made me feel something open up, a kinship, a hope that I may be able to put words to what it’s like to grow up with a step parents and that it can actually make a difference for someone like your lyrics did for me (I don’t even know if you have a step-dad!). And the chorus, it hit me hard because I sensed as though in that question, “Can I be your man?” there is so much vulnerability that is missing from masculine models we’re given. It’s not “I Wanna Be Your Man” by the Beatles, which is mostly below the waist, and it’s not “save/fix me, I need you and depend on you;” It’s “Here I am, all of me, and I bring myself to you because I want to see all of you too.” Powerful. Thank you, Devon!

You never fail to amaze me Devon. Your voice is like home to me, so soothing, familiar and warm. Your music has helped me over the past few years more than you will ever know. And for that I thank you. Lots of love from a huge fan from the north west of England 🇬🇧💕
