I use the disposable mascara brushes from the pound shop for cleaning my machines as they are flexible and very slim to get in the small gaps. I also photocopy the pages from my manuals and have laminated them. I have my business/postcards on a scrapbook ring, I laminated them, hole punched them and pop them on the ring. I store all my patterns in the plastic wallets they are brilliant. Thank you for sharing your sewing space its fabulous x

You have a very well organised sewing space and thank you for the tour and tips. I used to sew in the dining room but do have a room now but it desperately needs organising as it’s too full. I don’t really know where to start! This is typical of me as I have just got too much fabric and patterns. I could do a destash too but do like most of it! I used to have a sew Hayley jane box for 6 months and just couldn’t use the fabric fast enough as some of it wasn’t to my taste. I’ve recently used most of the fat quarters for masks though. You have been very inspiring and the empty drawer for an ongoing project is a great idea.SewSarah smith suggested putting a pin in the needle slot to show which needle you’ve used. It’s a good idea but it does leave the packet open and all the needles can slip out so I may start using your idea. Thank you 🤗

Love your sewing space tour. I think you make very good use of the space you have, and most importantly, you obviously accomplish a lot in there! We moved from a very large house with tons of dedicated sewing space about a year ago, just to have less house to take care of in our retirement. Our small home is still a work in progress, but I can’t believe how much I’m enjoying sewing in a small, organized space at one end of our bedroom! Everything I need is right where I can reach it. Sometimes, less truly is more. Love your shows. Keep up the good work.

Thank you so much 🥰 Isn't that funny - and really interesting that actually you prefer the smaller sewing space. I love that, and just proves you can really make anything work for you when you have a hobby that you truly love and enjoy. Wonderful 🥰❤️

I have sewed on just about every brand of sewing machine including industrial machines. I'm currently trying to figure out how to improve my sewing space. I love colorful tins and your butterfly drawers. I would love to have a great big window to look out when you sew.

Hi Angela! A great video! You are so well organised - my sewing space is our dining table and think when you don’t have a room you have to be organised! Also, I’m like you for forgetting what needle I have in my machine so I’ve taken to putting one of those skinny Post-It Notes above the needle (next to the take up lever) with the needle type and size written on it! Then I stick the Post-It on the inside of the lid of the tin where I keep my needles. Looking forward to your next vlog. 💜

I think your system is wonderful and well thought out. Very neat indeed! I am here at my moms house aka childhood bedroom as I came back to care for her before she died. I haven’t spread out into the house much, I don’t have the heart to take over a room as a sewing room. Anyway my room is so crowded, but I’m happy to say I just finally bought a place of my own and I’m qgoing to have a sewing studio and start a channel etc. after I get settled. Maybe film the process. My boys are grown and I’m not going back to New Zealand, so it’s finally time. You will have one too. And let me say sewing and being creative isn’t filling a void, i don’t think there is a void at all because I sew. I hope that makes sense.I actually feel a bit over self indulgent, but tso excited! I think yours is ideal for having a young family being out where the action is. Anyway thanks so much for sharing, it is nice to see where all of your gorgeous clothes are made🧵👗🏆🎯💎💝

Hi Angela, nice view from your sewing space. I also clean my machines like you. A little tip my Brother machine is an embroidery combination sewing machine. Where I bought it they would hold seminars regularly and would encourage you when changing your top thread to snip near the the top and floss the the thread from the needle. Yes you end up throwing maybe twelve inches away each time but when you pull the thread backwards you get little fibres getting stuck where you can’t reach to clean out. Have a great day. Val❤️🇨🇦🇬🇧

Hello Angela. Thank you for another lovely video it is so good to see you. I love your little sewing space, you are so well organised and you are 'inspiring' me to tidy mine! I think I will get a pencil case too, I will order one of those vintage Simplicity patterns one from Sew Direct (I can't get them here in Australia). Just remember to have your overlocker professionally serviced, as you will find that the blades that cut the fabric won't be sharp and will require either sharpening or replacing. I loved the little picture of your cat too, any chance that you will add one to your family? Stay safe and well xxxx

I loved, loved, loved your sewing room tour Angela! Thank you so much for sharing. It might be fun to consider an IKEA desk with a side pullout table so you could have the sewing machine on the main desk and the overlocker on the side pullout which can easily be pushed back in when you’re through with it. When I remodeled my sewing room, I bought one of those and love it. But honestly - your room is just wonderful as it is! Happy Sewing.

Great idea!! and do you know what is funny, I actually had a trip to Ikea on Saturday, we were just leaving, and my husband had to pop to the loo!! (Sorry) and while I was waiting your message popped up on my phone 😂 It was a bit late as we were leaving, but I've picked up their catalogs to have a little nose through, and see if I can find the desk you mean, as that sounds fab. Thank you so much 🥰❤️

@@DevonThreadTales It's the MALM (Desk with pull-out panel, 59 1/2 x 25 5/8). It's $179.00 in America and comes in white and black. It doesn't have any drawers in it but you can purchase a small set of drawers on casters which fits underneath I believe. You're so funny about "pop to the loo"! One suggestion I have that you might find helpful is to find a little bit of wall space to hang a thread rack as it makes it so much easier to review and choose threads. They are fairly cheap on eBay but I really value mine. I have three now because I have the space but I hang them on a peg board which you might also find useful. Even if you could find half a metre to hang up a few things.

@DevonThreadTales4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. I got mine from Make @140, I've had a little look on her website, and I can only see the kits. I bought mine individually. It might be worth messaging her and seeing if she can sell them separately for you. Hope that helps. www.makeat140.co.uk/products/beeswaxfoodwrapdiykit?_pos=3&_sid=1dceb3c2e&_ss=r 🥰

Hi Angela, I’m searching for a suitable sewing chair on wheels & remembered seeing this video…..could I ask where your chair is from and if you like it for the purpose of sewing please? I don’t really like the look of a standard operators/office chair as they come in such dark colours that don’t suit my room 😜
@DevonThreadTales3 жыл бұрын
Hia, no problem at all, it's a really inexpensive one that I bought from Argos. It is an office chair, but lightweight and no arms, which I find can often get in the way on office chairs. I'm really happy with it, and suits my small little sewing corner. Hope that helps 😊💕

Thank you Angela, I hadn’t thought of looking at Argos…..I think I may have found something on their website that suits me 😉 best wishes x

What a great use of space and your sewing view is fantastic! You kept mentioning Trello, I don't recall seeing Tamlyn's video on it, what is it? I don't recall ever hearing of it here in Canada. One suggestion, get yourself a label maker and label your boxes! lol If you're like me you will end up pulling them all out before you get the one you wanted in the first place. I love how you set up your pdf patterns, would you do a video on how you have them set up and organized in the folders?

Trello is fab - but if you're not sure how to use it - like I wasn't to start with, it is a good idea to watch a video on how to use it. I'm pretty sure you can use trello anywhere. I once heard them talk about it on the Love To Sew podcast (I think they are from Canada too?!?!? not sure). If not give me a shout and I will see if I can help. Yes no problem. I have a busy month or so ahead, what with getting my daughter back to Uni, but I will do a video on that - that's a great idea for a vlog, thank you🥰 Thank you for your lovely comments ❤️

Great video, I love a nose around other people’s sewing set up 😊 can I ask what the project bags are called on Amazon please? I like that idea

Ha ha - me too! It'a great to see other peoples idea's and set ups! Yes, no problem, they are very useful - here's the link to the ones I bought. Hope that helps. Mine are only A4, but you can get other sizes too - these just work for me. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07H9MNP5Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 🥰

I looked for one of those thread guides after seeing yours a while ago but they were sold out everywhere 😞

Ahhhh I'm gutted for you. I've just had a quick search for you, and I can't find one either. I'm so sorry. I hope you have more luck in the future. 🥰❤️

Angela, I have 2 questions :) 1. What size is your cutting mat? 2. Reagarding the gutermann shade card / thread guide: I like the idea of it but what happens when new colours are released by gutermann? We won't have them on the shadecard we bought, so do we need to buy an updated version of the card/booklet? ALSO Side note: does the shade card come with real thread samples or just a painted sample?
@DevonThreadTales3 жыл бұрын
Hia, My Matt is a size A0 - it's very large, but makes cutting out much easier! The Gutterman card is really thread, glued down, so it is very accurate. I don't think that you can buy updated thread - or updated books, I'm unsure, however, the variety of the colours on the card are very extensive, and can only imagine you will find the colour you are after. I hope that this helps 😊 Thank you 🥰

So lovely to see your sewing space and love a good nose at other people’s drawers! 😆 Sorry my channel causes you trouble whenever to try to say it, lol, I thought it was easier than my previous Bowtiful Bows and Sew Much More, but apparently it’s not 😉 (love your Orla Kiely blind and cushions by the way) 🥰 😘

Helen I'm so so sorry! I just keep getting my tongue tied. I can't understand why I can't say it, it's so funny! I love your name too 🙈🤣😊❤️. Thank you so much 😊❤️❤️

Just wondered, but do you have a notebook? I always make notes on the things I sew?!?
@DevonThreadTales4 жыл бұрын
Thank you - Yes I do have a note book. I keep them in my drawer. I normally jot down my families measurements, and anything that I am unsure about, that I may come across in the future I tend to jot down too. Thank you 🥰

Did you make your shade at your sewing desk?
@DevonThreadTales4 жыл бұрын
I'm afraid not - I made cushions to match, but I got these made at a place called Dunelm 😊
