It’s a geoduck clam and when dig it out of the sand fresh you can prepare it like sashimi. It’s basically a clam so it’s all edible. In Washington, USA they have huge thicker ones I dig them out with my family and they taste really good raw! 👍🏼

I completely agree. This guy will eat almost anything no matter how disgusting but this time he cooks the geoduck! Major fail! What gives? I've enjoyed sushi style geoduck in Seattle, Washington. The muscle of a fresh geoduck was still active and contracted in my mouth as I ate it. An amazing sensation and delicious!

Note: I’m sorry to tell you this, but that is not a liver that you’re referring to as a liver. It is actually the reproductive or the testicles. I’ve never had this type of clam. The gooey neck has called in the USA. But I’m quite sure that the testicles are edible, and I’m looking forward to finding out if they taste good. They have two siphons. One is an intake of nutrients, the other one is an exhale.

i'm not sure if this is true for all geoduck clams but supposedly it's better to sell them with a tight band around the shell - they dont have very strong muscles to hold their shell together, they rely on the sand and grit around them for that, so they die pretty quickly if the shell goes slack! or so i've read about in the past!

16:55 you should swallow the seeds together with the white things around it (it's safe don't worry). the way to eat akebi is the same as how we eat passion fruit, but akebi's skin can be cooked just like any other vegetables, unlike passion fruit

When I was learning Japanese in high school, the way I'd remember the kanji for fish is that the kanji itself kind of looks like a duck. So for studying for the test it was on, I'd sit there and be like 'fish is duck'. It's funny since these shellfish are called geoduck.

don't worry, he wont get cancelled. languages just sometimes have words that sound alike, but have wildly different meanings. a really huge example is actually through ikea, where they regularly scan through other languages to make sure that the names of their products aren't offensive to anybody else. there was a small plastic chair called kimme, which was slang for butt crack in german, and also färtsal for a child sized desk

Exist? They're native! It's entirely possible the ones in this video are from the pnw, since that's where the big farms are--not to mention that the name "geoduck" itself is derived from Lushootseed (the language of a lot of Puget Sound indigenous peoples) :) I've also never tried one, but I want to at least once! 💜
