DEW Garita | How to Drink

They were so busy asking if "They Could" never never bothered to ask if "They Should". What has science done?! The DEW Garita!
Apparently PepsiCo, MTN DEW and Red Lobster have joined together in some unholy crusade to offend the heavens by endeavoring against natural law to create the abomination known only as The DEW Garita, and you all begged me to make it, so here it is. I'm honestly embarrassed by how much work and time went into this one. Multiple road trips to find a Red Lobster location that had the DEW Garita, bribing bartenders, haranguing social media accounts, I even tracked down the very nice person who quite literally makes all the glassware that Red Lobster uses. She's the one who told me you can just buy the glass at Red Lobster. Now I know! So far as I know, this episode contains the actual real deal legit DEW Garita recipe, if that's the sort of thing you're interested in. It's the third drink in here, takes me a while to figure it out. I normally put the recipe here in the body of the video, but for reasons I'm holding off on that. If the coast is clear I'll update the video description in a day or so, but for now you'll have to watch the video for it. Also I think this might be my finest hour.

RECIPE: In the shaker: 1oz Sour Mix 0.5oz Cointreau or Triple Sec (or other orange liquor) 0.25oz Midori 1.25oz Tequila (officially 1800 Silver) Open pour into official Dew™ Garita™ glass rimmed with red sugar. Top up with roughly 2oz of Mtn Dew™. Mostly this is for my own reference but you are welcome. About to go try this out, pray for me.

Hi there, red lobster Bartender here, wanted to say this vid made my day. I think our store was one of the first to try selling this cocktail, don't quote me on that though. BUT HUZZAH YOU HAVE DISCOVERED THE RECIPE OF THIS.......amalgamation of dew and rita. XD Quick few notes if anyone is curious. The sour mix we use is Pepsi brand, and i'm unsure if you can get it from commercial stores. Also, the ratio we use is actually 3/4 of an ounce of Midori, and only 1/4 of an ounce of Cointreau/Triple Sec. Love your vids man, can't wait to see what you make next. =D

Former Red Lobster bartender: the sour mix is a concentrate that comes in half gallon containers. It's diluted 4:1 with water. The 1.25oz is Red Lobster's standard pour for some reason. I have no idea why. I'd also be willing to bet that it's not supposed to be open poured, but good luck getting a chain bartender to strain over fresh ice.

I've been mixing midori with mountain dew for years. It's delicious. Honestly, dew is the best mixer i've found for just about every alcohol. Live wire dew is my favorite, so i'm not surprised they used an orange liqueur. All in all, i had not heard of this before, but this sounds fantastic and i can't wait to get wasted on them.

You may like a Dew drink in came up with one time when I was broke. All I had was bottom shelf rum, some Mountain Dew Throwback (regular dew doesn't work) and a lime. I grabbed a glass and some ice, and blew my own mind with the taste. I call it the "Faux-hito." Over ice, add one ounce of lime juice, 2 ounces of silver rum, and top off with a 12oz can of Dew Throwback. Gently stir with a straw. I like to hand it to someone and ask them if they can taste the mint. Every time, their eyes light up and they agree they can clearly taste it. Except, there is no mint! Something about the cane sugar formula seems to trick the brain into tasting something that'll isn't there. Note: measurements are not exact, I was drunk and eyeballing the pours when I invented this, so your milage may vary.

So for rimming the glass; I remember a drinks episode of Good Eats, where Alton recommended dipping the rim of the glass into the base spirit you are using and letting it evaporate a little instead of using lime juice. I have done this ever since & I find it works out great.

Mountain Dew is actually a surprisingly good mixer, in that it can drown out most other flavors when used in sufficient quantities. I have fixed many failed cocktail experiments by dumping in some Dew. It is also delicious when combined with fruit juice.
