Thanks! But why would you undercharge the battery for storage? I've never heard of that idea before.
@GrandT6 ай бұрын
@@CanadianOptionsTrader It's the same for any type of battery. It can help with the life-time of them. The more you charge them to max, the more their capacity degrades. That's also the reason the DCB1106 exists, and why [some newer] phones have the battery saver mode, which keeps it at around 80-85% charge. There's a whole study and discussion about it, which would make this reply about a complete thesaurus worth.

Your complaint with the batteries is the same complaint that everyone has with these mowers. The mowers themselves are great, but people don't have realistic expectations with respect to the batteries. When you are buying electric power tools these days you are not investing in the tool, you are investing in the battery system. It only really makes sense to buy a certain brand of tools if you are also buying those batteries. All of my power tools are DeWalt, and I have their first generation mower, which I run on a pair of 9Ah Flexvolts which is usually sufficient. However, if I run out all I have to do is go into my garage and grab another bunch of batteries to finish the job. Dewalt has no idea what the size of your yard is when they sell the mower, so it's really not fair for you to give the system a thumbs down on the runtime because your yard is probably bigger than average. It's really no different than complaining about running out of gas with an ICE mower. Go buy more gas, or go buy another battery, and your complaints disappear. To be fair, when DeWalt first sold their first gen mower, they packaged it with a pair of 5Ah batteries which was wholly insufficient for all but the smallest lawns. It should have come with larger ones, but they only came out with 20V high capacity batteries lately. Running on Flexvolts, the thing does my lawn and my neighbor's on one charge as long as the grass isn't too long or wet. I love the thing, but I wish the bag was a little bigger in capacity, and that it was powered. Thanks for the review, I've been eager to see how these new powered ones are doing to see about upgrading in the future.

Ok, thanks! You make great points! It's definitely been a learning experience for me. To be fair, the mower is advertised as suitable for lawns up to 20,000 square feet. Since I posted this video, I learned to just stagger the 3 cuts, and take a break in between, so there is extra time for the 1st battery to charge. It all works out fine if I'm able to adapt to the battery capacity and performance. There are always trade-offs, just like driving an electric car or using a heat pump to heat my house (which I do).

Also it is good to remember that batteries and chargers play simple math games. A 12Ah battery plug into 4Ah charger takes three (3) hours to charge (12/4=3). Get 8Ah or 12Ah charger. Last, all 20V tools works with the 60v/20v flex batteries but 60V tool will not work with a 20v battery, there is extra active pin in the 60v mode to make sure of it.

With 3 batteries and a fast charger: One mows while one cools and one charges. Might want to throw a 6 or 9AH FlexVolt into the mix. The 6AH is what they like to bundle with smaller FV tools. 9AH hits harder (higher current cells) and can often be found on sale.

@@CanadianOptionsTrader Because your making it out like the mower itself has a bad point / negative. It doesn't. You're reviewing a mower that has fulfilled exactly what it promised, then making it sound like it doesn't. You said "You cant run one while charging the other and expect it to be ready"... Well, you wouldn't need 3 batteries if you were not pushing it beyond what it was designed for. It can just about, at a big push, cope with 900mSQ, but thats "light use" with no propulsion. Those are max figures. Your back yard is way over 200mSQ. Closer to 400... Mine is 240mSQ, and its half the size of yours. All i'm saying is, be fair.. Your trying to mow well over 1100mSQ, then claiming the mower/battery is the problem. I've been using the 2 x 18v version for a year now, and with 2 x 54v Flexvolt batteries, I get about 1hr, no self-drive, so can do about 500mSQ roughly, so was looking at upgrading to something quicker or lighter as I cut public lawns in my neighbourhood, so have 8 of those huge flexvolt batteries now., which is why I was looking at this mower 🙂 In the UK, they're all 54v/18v... Thanks for the video though, much appreciated. doesn't sound any quieter/louder than the 36v version I'm using...

20V Max is DeWALT’s standard 18 volt tool/battery line… basically DeWALT’s version of Milwaukee’s M18 tool/battery line. “FlexVolt” is called that because it works in 54 volt “60V Max” FlexVolt tools and existing 20V Max tools. It supports both voltages. Yes, DeWALT deliberately names it after the maximum voltage instead of the nominal voltage for marketing purposes. They aren’t allowed to do this in some countries which is why you might see the same tools and batteries called “18V Max” and “54V Max.” This is DeWALT’s first FlexVolt mower, which is why it only needs one 54 volt battery. The older 2x 20V Max mowers needed two 18 volt batteries to make 36 volts and they did not perform very well. 54v>36v

Dude are you intentionally trying to be confusing by using 18v/20v and 56V/60v. This isn't the UK. It's just 20v or 60v.
@emmettturner94522 ай бұрын
A) It’s not just the UK that will not allow DeWALT to call it 20V Max. It’s most of the world. I’ve seen 18V Max everywhere from the UK to Hong Kong to Australia. B) I was answering his question when he openly expressed his confusion about why it says 20V Max. It seems he wasn’t even aware that the batteries could be used in 20V Max tools including the old 2x 20V Max mowers with 2/3rds the voltage. C) I never once said 20v or 60v as you claim. “20V Max” is a regional name. 18 volts is a universal specification for the nominal voltage. I’m not the one mixing up voltages with marketing names. I was very careful. I never even abbreviated “volts” until the very end (deliberately in lower case). D) Yes, the other DeWALT cordless electric mowers are called “2x 20V Max.” I didn’t make that up. The error compounds when you multiply which is why it’s important to clarify how FlexVolt compares in 60V Max and 2x 20V Max modes. …and it’s not 18/54v because of what DeWALT calls it in any other country. It’s 18/54v because that’s what it is. It’s marketing it as something else that is confusing people. Referring to what it really is only clarifies.
