Here is a quick video of how I replaced my broken pressure switch on my Dewalt D55146 Air Compressor. If there is additional advice that you know would help others. Please leave a comment below. Thank you!

I called the Dewalt factory tech number and we could not figure out what (TYPE) the compressor is. It looks identical to yours and that was a great video. Which the technician told me to go to You tube and see what is there. Do you think that the TYPE of compressor actually matters as to the type of pressure switch that is needed??? again thank you for having taken the time to put up a fantastic video on how to complete the task

The type of compressor and model number does matter. Maybe the same part I replaced is the same for other models, however, don’t assume it’ll be the same unless you can confirm it is the same model as the one I own. I had to do a lot of searching to make sure that I had the same part as I needed. And I had a model number to go off of. If yours looks identical to mine and the part looks the same, you could order the part, but you’d loose the shipping money if you had to return it.

good morning, I wrote to you about a month ago about the pressure switch on my Dewalt compressor that you had in your video. It was fantastic. It finally came in the mail and I installed it. two problems----I forgot about disconnecting the off/on wires and broke the darn switch (but that is gonna be easy to fix). My scary situation now is that it says it is a 225 PSI compressor. I got scared when it got to almost 250 lbs and did not shut off, probably 235... what I need to know is how high do you think it might go before it shuts off?? and how dangerous is this if it goes above 235 lbs? How many lbs until it might explode or something. how to adjust the total pressure? there are 2 gauges ...one for the compressor pressure and one for the outgoing line pressure. thanks a whole bunch

did the switch go bad or just or you need to use an aftermarket switch that is improved?

@@HiFiInsider The switch had corroded. I just went online and replaced it with a like part. I can’t say that it was improved in any way. If you can find a better replacement, that would be awesome. Good luck. 👍

Hello again....I have written you before about my Dewalt D55146 air compressor. I ordered a new pressure switch and in stalled it. Just like in your video. The problem now is that the pressure switch reads on at 185 and off at 225 lbs. NOW IT WENT TO 250 LBS AND DID NOT SHUT OFF. Out of fear of to much pressure I turned it off. Do you think it could be just a factory defect or is there some other place to set this pressure. Before the (bad) pressure switch exchange I always had the main pressure set as high as possible and it would always shut off at 225 HELP......

@@user-mg5eb8yf8j If you have the same compressor as me and replaced it with the same part, I would assume it is a factory defect. I’m not aware that you can adjust the settings on the switch itself in any way without maybe tampering with it. lol Forgive me for not knowing fully about how the switch itself works. The only other thing I can think of is that maybe there is something is blocking air from getting to the switch to allow it to properly measure the tank pressure. I hope you can get it worked out.

thanks for the reply. Without having to return it to Dewalt do you have any ideas as how to determine the TYPE of compressor that it is. So far it resembles a type 7 or type 9 and Dewalt say those are impossible to get new parts for at this time. Thank you

I would say that you should be able to find the part online hopefully. Do you have that model number on the side like mine shows?

How did you determine the Pressure switch was the problem?

I did a little research on the unit and found that the pressure switch does have this issues. I also watched it preform and I noticed that all the components were working correctly, but when the air pressure would fill to the cutoff amount, it would continue to fill past where the switch would usually cut it off and all the way up to where the emergency dump valve would release excess air. I figured that that was the only explanation for it.

@@lindaarbuckle6266 Not sure what you mean. Sorry. Do you mean the original hose clamps?

@@ElitePlyr1 yes, thanks, but I just solved that. They have small tabs on them that go down into the rubber, so you have to get access to the start of the clamp and pry it up to get it off. What wasn't said that taking it off cannibalizes the original clamp, so you'd better have some other hose clamps at the ready. Thanks to your video, I just fixed my compressor. I so appreciate your posting! The DeWalt site, of course, said the pressure switch should ONLY be replaced by an official service person. Well, once you showed everyone how, it was just unplugging and re-plugging. Totally possible by a determined person. Thanks for the know-how.
