Honestly since it is an oil less compressor how would it hurt it standing up?

Good job. That aluminum manifold is proprietary and made for one reason? to make money off of parts!. When I finally found and got the price for the rebuild kit I almost fell over! It is a good compressor but if used on a regular basis the best thing to do is remove the manifold, go to HD or Lowes and use either copper or brass and galvanized fittings. The gauges and hose connectors can be reused. It will even fit with everything going back into it's original location. This includes installing a new regulator also. We have 3 of these units and every one had the same issue, regulator problems! After it has been used awhile moisture builds up inside that manifold and some type of reaction takes place (white powder builds up inside - galvanic maybe? ) causing failure. Even if cleaned on a fairly regular basis that regulator is going to die because it is a stupid design. At the price of a rebuild kit I spent less and had it working the same day and didn't have to wait for 2 weeks while Dewalt took my money and then took their time getting me the kit. To keep everything from falling out I used pipe strapping and bolts through the same holes the old manifold used.If you don't do this now you will repeat this video over and over again Lol. To fix your moisture problems on the other compressor, get a coil of soft copper and install it between your air line and compressor outlet and hang it on the wall with a drain at the lowest point- search youtube. That strange sound at startup was probably because you had the unit in an upright position and ran it. That is a major fail and should always be flat in the horizontal position, even if it is only on for a short time. Maybe you know this and just forgot? It is possible to reduce 50% of the compressors lifespan or more if used in the vertical position.

Thanks. Question ❓ Since it is an oil free compressor how will using it vertical vs horizontal hurt the machine? Just curious. I don't use mine often maybe once a month to fill up tires or use an impact wrench on my truck or mower. One of my gauges seems to be leaking, I've already replaced one after the glass cover shot out. Scared me to death but it's been a pretty good compressor, I've noticed it does accumulate water , I just open the overflow valve and most of the moisture seems to come out. But here recently I've noticed sometimes it doesn't cut off and continues to run which isn't too big of a deal since I don't use it very long. But I would like for it to operate properly
