The M12 high speed is still the most used around here purely for size reasons, it's hard to not just reach for it due to that. Just wish it has a bit more umph, it gets hung up on threads that look pretty unintimidating. Which the dewalt has but is larger, and the insider has but didn't love it. There's no goldilocks

@austinbruder9187 What is your experience with the RIDGID lifetime warranty? I have recently found out that the warranty is a marketing gimmick. Their brushless stuff is not lasting long for a chimney sweep and dryer vent sweeping company. You cannot get replacements at Home Depot. You have to send tools in and if RIDGID denies replacement, you don’t get your half working tool back. With DeWalt, most tools have a 3 year warranty and it is as simple as going to my local authorized repair center and they give me a direct replacement or newer model if direct replacement is not available; no questions asked. They warranty 3 years from the date stamp on the tool unless you have a receipt, then they go by the date on the receipt. I can understand sending tools in for warranty if you are a DIYer but for commercial use, I can’t wait 6-8 weeks for them to dent my warranty claim.

I love PPF. Since my new vehicle in 2020, I have 3M Pro Series put on that vehicle and 3 other new vehicles since. For previous 38 years, I only waxed my vehicles. And even being careful, there will be stone chips that lead to rust and other blemishes. Previous to PPF, I had bird poop on roof of Corolla. I inspect vehicles for bird poop at least once per day. I went to remove bird poop and it had etched the clearcoat leaving a quarter size dull area. That dull area remained for another 11 years until I sold that car. I also do detailing as a serious hobby. I stay away, where possible from large truck especially dump truck on highways but you will get the occasional stone even from traffic in the opposite direction. And driving after the sun goes down in rural area at certain times of the year, your front end will be littered with bug splatter. My 2020 vehicle with PPF is still excellent but I also take care of my PPF my cleaning off any splatter within 24 hours. Just a rinse with a microfibre towel I keep in cars with a bottle of distilled water in each vehicle from grocery store. Sometime I use baby wipes I keep in the cars during the above zero temperature months. If you drive on the highway without PPF, eventually you will eventually see thousands of tiny pin tip size damage on your plastic painted lower bumper that is more noticeable on lighter coloured vehicles as the colour of the plastic under the paint is black in most cases. That just from sand and tiny debris hitting your vehicle at highway speeds. Then the stones. PPF is amazing! I had full hood, full bumper, headlights, fog lights, full front fenders, A-pillars, front area of room from top of windshield going back about 8 inches or to front edge of sunroof, rear of side mirrors, door cups and interior where there is piano (high gloss) black where it will be often touched. These LED headlamps are about $1000.00 CAD each as individual burned out LEDs cannot be replaced. The whole assembly needs to be replaced. Also manufacturers of PPF have different grades/quality of PPF. Some have UV inhibitors and some are thicker for more protections. A good installer is also important. Try to select a place who has the computer for various vehicle makes and models whereby the roll of PPF is cut to each part you want covered. Then no cutting at vehicle body seams are necessary in case the paint is cut leaving bare metal that will lead to rust.

The longer head and thinner profile will make it a little better than most. Especially you can flip the anvil to get more clearance. Also, i believe the milwaukee inside sockets will fit this making it even more low profile than having the anvil with a socket. Plus, it actually has some good torque, and you can reef on it more to crack fasteners free.

First off. 2 channels should be a MUST for anyone who uses tools. Torque Test Channel and Project Farm. And it's cool they hooked you up. The only cordless wrench I have is that really long Milwaukee 12V one. I love it but hate it. It's surprisingly HEAVY and using it for a long time wears you out. Hoping to get some newer cordless tools soon. But I have not settled on which brand yet. I may just go Harbor Freight. I have several DeWalt and Milwaukee, Some ridgid. But all my batteries are many years old now. Replacements are so costly. I don't wrench professionally so open to "Good enough" as long as it's cost effective. I'll admit. That DeWalt here looks dang sexy. I love the 3/8 and 1/2 in same tool and well, several other things. Only thing I don't like is the big square battery.

I've got the same brushed Milwaukee M12 3/8" ratchet. I got it recently, new. If get the opportunity I'll pick up the 1/4" drive version because of size. There are some places I've found it's very useful. For the a lot of the same reasons, I'm getting the DeWalt's 510 3/8" ratchet with that same power-stack battery. I've tried the Milwaukee M12 'pass-through' ratchet, that comes with a set of proprietary sockets. For an automotive tech, I could see it being incredibly useful. I've been working heavy diesel equipment now for over 10yrs, and the kind of work I typically do as heavy-duty body repair man, I don't see the real need for it. It comes with a great Long reach which is absolutely beautiful and I found myself wanting it for that purpose, because I want and truly need longer reach cordless ratchet. And the pass-through has a 3/8" anvil with the sockets it comes with. But.., it's fittley.🤨When you remove whatever socket you attached to the anvil, the anvil comes out with the socket, invariably 😕. For this reason, I'd still get the DeWalt. Reason 2, the encapsulated head on the DeWalt keeps that 1st 30% of grease that the Milwaukee loses on the 1st bolt. Milwaukee can do better. I'll wait for the 2.0 version, while buying the DeWalt 🤓🤠😎.

The reason you can flip the anvil is for clearance. We all know clearance is one of our best friends in tight spots. Also, i think the insider sockets will fit this. I seen the guy tim on the shoptools channel use a caliper on the anvil hex part that goes in the tool, its 0.63. Milwaukees page for the 3/8 inside anvil says its also 0.63, so the sockets for the inside should work making this smaller in tighter spots.

Also, the powestack batteries are a huge game changer and as far as I know they beat anything Milwaukee has to offer in terms of raw output. This is also something they don't do an awesome job marketing imo

I have the other dewalt cordless ratchets and can say that the extra length from the battery design can make it undesirable for working in engine bays, which is where I felt it would have been most useful. Be careful with the 20v ratchets, it might have been improved with this new design but if you run a bolt all the way down and don't have a solid grip on it, youre liable to have it ripped out of your hands.

I definitely have the new style on the Xmas list this year just to upgrade and kinda like you and just try it out. Like they say it’s hard to teach old dogs new tricks.

I like the new dewalt because its a nice length, is somewhat extended but not overly so. And it has good power and speed. I had the original M12 ratchet but was way to slow to be useful and I didn't care for the high speed one. The bad thing about the dewalt is have to keep track of your other anvil, no good place to put it.

the slipping on the m12 occurs because grease got in the head, per milwaukee, there shouldn't be any grease between the pawl and the ratchet head.

The new charger has dual outputs. Once the battery is nearly charged it starts to slow charge it so it doesn't cook your batteries. Most nicer lithium battery chargers and or batteries including RC and even your smart phone do this so they don't damage the battery with excess heat on the final stage of charging

Hi! Can this tool be used manually, like a regular ratchet, or only automatically?
@shaunofthedead30008 ай бұрын
I have comparable Milwaukee and Dewalt versions of these tools. These particular two are not the same. That Dewalt is an IMPACTING ratchet. The Milwaukee is just a ratchet. Milwaukee makes impacting ratchets. They are more powerful than Dewalt by alot. The closest Dewalt ratchet to your old Milwaukee is a DCF504. Dewalt has scrapped their brushed ratchet lineup in 12v. Their DCF510 is an imoacting wrench with a 75 ft/lb torque rating. Which is nice. Conversely, the closest Milwaukee tool equivalent to that DCF510 is the Milwaukee Insider. It has both 1/4 and 3/8 drive adapters as well as a decent assortment of pass-through sockets in metric and standard. And unlike your Milwaukee it has extended reach and 60 ft/lbs of torque. 3050-21 for the kit and 3050-20 for tool only. Kit unless it's a replacement. You'll want the sockets that come with. Now the Milwaukee impacting ratchets will run 600 ft/lbs of torque, but they have a much larger head than a basic ratchet. And Dewalt currently doesn't have anything really in league with that. Basically this is a tool in-between the impact tools and the basic power ratcheting tools.

Used to be a cnc machinist and the shop had a pneumatic ratchet, so I tried it. It was KINDA nice for some stuff like changing jaw plates, but after a while I came to the conclusion that what it did absolutely best was busting my knuckles against what ever was in front of them when the bolt bottomed. Usually had to tighten the bolts with something else after that anyway. Granted it might've been just user error, faulty pneumatic ratchet or just the wrong job for it, but from my experience and the jobs I've ever done, pneumatic or cordless ratchets feel like the worst available option. Like even below just your basic asf ring spanner. 😅

That Milwaukee is so worn you cannot even compare the two. The teeth on the ratchet mechanisms are worn, that's why it slips when you grip it, soon it wont turn at all. Won't buy a Milwaukee anything. Been on the fence on the dewalt ratchets mainly because of the as you stated the ping pong paddle. Think the 12 volt DeWalt is probably the way to go just because of size.

The Milwaukee ratchet beats the Dewalt hands down. Were you gonna use that huge dewalt under a car hood?

I don’t work under a car hood so… 😜

In my line of work the DeWalt beats the Milwaukee. Get what works for you. I don't work on cars often but when I do I find snap on usually has the best tools around for working on cars.

Yeah, I was gonna say the same thing. 90% of the work I do with that ratchet is in an engine compartment. I like the compact size and it'll fit into small areas that will drive you nuts using a manual ratchet to get 5 degree swings. Honestly, that's the main reason I bought it was to make quick work of bolts that have no swing space. I also just bought the 1/4" drive version of the Milwaukee ratchet because I found myself using the 3/8 version with a 1/4" adapter a lot.

@@marcellemay7721 I also think that these type of ratchets by default are for automotive work.

If only the manufacturers would realize this.... but it's 2023. There is no reason for us to not have an easily reversed (electronically) in much the same way they do drills and impacts.

Brand loyalty is dumb, if its a good tool its a good tool. I just hate having zo many different batteries

Project Farm does a lot of great videos comparing different brands of tools and equipment, doing very extensive testing. Should check out their content if you're not aware of them already.

I watch his stuff too. His tests are great but you can’t beat TTC for hard numbers and apple to apples comparisons.

"Angry pixies" had me rolling. As an electrical engineer, I approve...will start using that term from now on. Side note, I'm sending this to my girlfriend, hoping she gets the message and buys it for me for Christmas lol

The DeWalt is too large for automotive use. But why did Milwaukee make the battery part of the handle! I don't think it's good to be grabbing and pulling on the battery. But Milwaukee is the only good alternative to Snap-on. Matco has a sealed head 16v, but it cost as much as Snap-on and you're stuck with 2.0 batteries. No Matco dealer and no deals, I wouldn't buy that sht either. So Milwaukee M12 is the only ratchet I would recommend. Register your tool, you gone need that 5 yr warranty!

no matter how much you tryin to like the dewalt is not a better design that m12 is about best size of a tool like this

Very good review from a guy who actually uses the tool and not like those screaming metrosexuals who only held a curling iron in their hand for hair 😆
