Electric trimmers are great for keeping things tidy. But when I worked for the city we used Stihl balls-to-the-wall trimmers. They’re an arm and a leg, but I had to have one. It worked out because now I’m a contractor and use it all the time, and it saves a lot of effort.

Bought one of these for my uncle after he got back surgery, works just as well as a gas powered model (at least so far) and weighs less than half. He gets to still be useful, and I get to feel like I did him a good deed :)

I've worked for John Deere, RedMax, and Husqvarna. But the trimmer I use at home is a Milwaukee. Got it a couple years ago on a Home Depot Father's Day sale and for homeowner use, it's perfect. I can't honestly suggest a gas powered trimmer to any standard homeowner these days. Easier to use, especially for older and disabled folks, and you don't have to worry about the gas going bad over the winter time (I'm also PA). Even the battery powered Husqvarna models are good for small commercial guys.

I have the older version. Love it, but, I don’t find it super ergonomic. I have to make sure I’m keeping mind of how I hold it so I don’t hurt my back. But, I have a bad back as is. Other than that, it’s super powerful and has worked great for 6ish years now. Have zero plans of replacing it any time soon.

I found that the handle on the battery side of the folding latch is not balanced at all. I placed it on the head side of the latch and it balances well. I have no idea why the instructions say to put the handle so close too the operator.

I've had the 60v for a few years now and it puts down the power better than my old gas trimmer. The switch is more intuitive as well. I have other flex voltage stuff so that's a plus. Only thing I wish it did have was the folding hinge. If I do want to take it down I have to loosen a thumb screw and slide it out. Either way electric is the way to go nowadays. My early gen ryobi 40v lawnmower is also still going strong. Never going back to gas lol...

If I could learn some tradecraft from you I'd do it almost every time. It's kinda why I kept watching your shorts. By the way, here a brushcutter is more often than not called a whipper snipper. Why? Because it snips grass by whipping it.

Ive been using this trimmer for about 2yrs now. I run an 8Ah battery. There is space for a larger battery. The trimmer has yet to power down using the 8Ah battery. I used to use the 5 and 6ah that would last about 20 to 25mins after i realized I didn't need wide open throttle all the time. Thats the key to run time. Modulate the trigger. Use more power as you need it. A thin patch of weeds don't need %100 throttle. Also, I took my guard off long ago. I haven't had any issue with the string feeding unevenly creating an imbalance. Last but not least, anyone over 6'2 may find themselves reaching and hunched a lot. I have 0 complaints about this trimmer.

I have the 20v string trimmer 3 years and it works great but wanted a pole saw and brush trimmer and found the DeWALT 60v DCST972B String Trimmer could use multiple attachments and (not) have to be DeWALT. I just found a no name brush cutter at Lowe's on clearance for $30. I works great. Also picked up the chain pole saw attachment and it works great at cutting the dead palm frawns. This video shows the possible attachments you may already have but as the channel says "use at your own risk and may void any warranty with DeWALT" I always make sure all attachments, DeWALT or others are connected properly and run smoothly before actual use. Check this out. And replacement string trimmer head in following video kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHW2i42pptCojLs kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2LNhHaknLGAf5Y

I’m loading it with old Weed Eater brand trimmer line but it just keeps binding up and refuses to dispense. I verified it was the correct size. I’d get a few minutes, tops, before the line was all gone and would not dispense more when bumping the head. I’d have to open the head up, unspool, then respool. After doing that through a whole spool I looked it up to make sure I wasn’t doing it wrong and it doesn’t seem I am. Guess I’ll be the sucker who buys DeWALT-branded trimmer line just to see if the old line is the issue.

Might be wound on backwards or if old and dry soak in water for a few hours before winding on. Milwaukee twisted line seems to work OK on it and and Stihl twisted is a bit to heavy for the motor. About at the time the the string head wears out the motor will die permanently. Keep the topair vents clear.

I've always used the 2-cycle gas powered "throw away" models until I got sick of pulling on a rope dozens of times on a machine that won't start and its 1k degrees outside. I pulled the trigger on a straight shaft Ryobi 40v trimmer. Haven't looked back since. F rope pulling. Oh, I only use 4ah batteries or higher. Plenty of runtime and power for my 1/4 acre property. Trimming and edging only, mind you. Although, the 4 ah has enough left over to run my Ryobi 20" mower to lawn completion. 🤷‍♂️👍

I bought my string trimmer in 98. It's an el-cheapo sub $100 weedeater brand IIRC (it's my garage at the moment). I've replaced the fuel line like 5 times in the 26 years I've owned it plus a few primer bulbs. It uses maybe 3/4 of a gallon of gas a season. I figure I would have gone through at least 4 batteries in 26 years. Plus, AFAIK, it's ready for work still and will probably go another 20 years unless the crank seals fail (2-stroke) or something.

I got the DCST922 trimmer set with the DCBL722 blower and DCB204 battery last year. That blower is great! I use it a few times a week to clear the parking lot at the workshop and being able to set a low speed with the adjuster and ramp up with the trigger makes is super easy to avoid blowing gravel everywhere while still freeing up and moving the plant debris.

I got the older model (non folding) in a combo box with a blower, charger & 5ah battery for $199 a couple years ago. I got home to find it had a little grass staining on the weed trimmer head. It looked like it had been used for a couple minutes and the blower was unused. Then re-boxed & taped. I went back to the store and since it was on sale, they had no others in stock. HD knocked off another $50. So I ended up paying $149 for both the trimmer & blower.

15 minute no-load run time, which means less WITH a load? That's why batteries will never replace dino-juice. I'd need a half dozen batteries to replace a half pint of gas.
@emmettturner9452
@emmettturner9452 5 ай бұрын
Not a whole lot of load on a string trimmer. Also, they make compatible batteries at three times that capacity… not that you need one since you could be gang charging another 5Ah on the (included!) fast charger. Mine came with a 4Ah battery but I already had 2x 5Ah, an 8Ah, and 2x 10Ah batteries. Can’t say I’ve ever needed any of those since even my 1.7Ah batteries would cover the couple places I need to use it (only where the mower can’t reach).

I just got this last year, I'd say it has less raw power than gas but the sheer convenience of it being able to turn off/on at any point is amazing and for my lawn which is just grass it's been great. Also uses a lot less string. I loved my echo but this has definitely replaced it.
@tarstarkusz
@tarstarkusz 5 ай бұрын
Total waste of money. Gas ones are superior in most ways. A tiny 2 cycle engine can generate a lot of power at 10k RPM and not burn much gasoline doing it. The 9 AH battery is like 200 Dollars. You don't use these things that often. Most of that 200 Dollars is just going to be lost to time. I wouldn't expect the battery to last much longer than 5 years even with relatively few charge/discharge cycles. So long as you are willing to change out the fuel line and primer bulbs and maybe occasionally clean the carb, a 2stroke gas trimmer is the best tool for the job. If you have a tiny yard, you might want to consider a corded electric model instead.

But I'm also REALLY old-fashioned so I would never own battery powered landscaping/gardening equipment The only exception would be hedge trimmers the things that look like metal swordfish Other than that, lawn mowers, weed wackers, chainsaws, All of that needs to be gas-powered

I see exactly what you’re saying. For commercial use, I’d keep everything gas. For private use at the house, I use a battery string trimmer and plug in blower. The mower is obviously gas and so is the edger. This is for about a quarter of an acre so for the string trimmer, I’d need at least two batteries for one go around and those are Ryobi. Curious to see if battery powered edgers actually have the power to dig in to an area that has been grown over and not something that is maintained. Idk personally. Anyways, God Bless and Guide you and yours brother in Jesus’ Almighty Name. 😊

@@LoneCrusader Hey man I appreciate the awesome positive informative reply Also yeah I totally get what you're saying too and yes leaf blower I also don't mind being battery-powered cuz that's all I knew growing up It might have been gas-powered but that was a very long time ago but either way I would stay away from Ryobi products because they are the cheapest to the cheap and also the lowest quality and everything they make is electric and my God it's like the millennial hipster Gen Z of tool brands I would stick to Milwaukee DeWalt and Craftsman Maybe Ridgid But personally my favorites are Milwaukee Craftsman DeWalt In that order And God bless you too 💙

Many communities (not just HOAs) are outlawing gas-fueled equipment due to the noise they make.

I have the smaller version of the Dewalt trimmer and it beats the crap out of any gas trimmer I've ever had... because it always works. There is no start of season tune up/trouble shooting/ carb cleaning/ bad gas issues every single ice trimmer always have. There are no multiple trips to fill a gas can, mixing oil, and yanking an a string hundreds of times hoping it will start spitting out poison exhaust. Insert the battery and it works every time. After not being able to get my chainsaw running I purchased the small Dewalt. It cuts better than the old Stil, and always works. Next lawnmower will be electric as I'm sick of having all the same fuel related maintenance and issues. I will never buy another dead dinosaur powered anything ever again.

Ive had to weed eat a whole football field about 3 feet high with all kinds of grasses and weeds basically every day for a few years. I used a STIHL and it always worked. Not many weed eaters out there that can handle a full 10 hours of continuous use on 100° days.
