Thanks for this, lots of useful information. Bought one yesterday and wasn't sure if I should spend more money on a different brand and thought about returning it. Having watched your video I will keep it, handy for measuring rooms. Top man!

@@LTWCarpentry Yes does the job. I'm a heating installer so need to do whole house measuring occasionally to work out the heat loss. Normally I would struggle with my tape measure so this is a big time saver. I did look at the Leica for about £100 which is Bluetooth and sends the measurements to a floor planner which then allows you to present sexy drawings etc.but don't do enough of it to justify the cost. I'm trying to avoid spending too much on tools these days as my kids are going to have the hassle of dumping them in the 'end of life skip' 😂👍

I’ve used a laser measuring device for years. I’m a commercial gas engineer and I use it for measuring pipework. When I have to do a pressure test, I need to know the length of all diameter pipes to enable me to calculate the amount of gas in the pipes. I don’t need to be millimetre perfect, so these are ideal, the alternative in a measuring tape, but these are way quicker, plus I can measure pipes from the ground, I don’t need to be getting a ladder/scaffold etc. I currently use a Bosch one ( it’s been a great unit, but now it’s 15 years old ) but am going to buy this one, as it’s only just over £29 in Toolstation today, still a bargain.

I still carry mine about for quoting due to its small size, I have a Bosch with I use for measuring up when I want a few more features but this little thing still comes in handy

As a commercial gas engineer I have to calculate pipe volumes when testing for leaks. Rather than using a conventional tape through false ceilings, or measuring at high level using a step ladder, I use a Bosch laser measurer. My Bosch is on the blink, I’ve had it for nearly 10 years so this looks to be a cheap but good replacement for it.

I would say this one or the Huepar one that I reviewed on my channel, both good but the Huepar has more functions 👍🏻

Thanks mate for the review. I just bought mine today for $45 AUD and love it. When I was playing with all the settings, I thought I was missing how to set it to measure from the front instead of the rear of the device but I think it only measured from the rear - which is fine with me anyway, no need to measure from the front I guess.

Personally, I really love the Bosch GLM165-40 BLAZE. It reaches 165 feet with great accuracy. It can add or subtract multiple measurements as well as calculate square footage and the volume of a space. There is also a memory bank which can hold the previous measurements between power cycles. The BLAZE 165 holds a good charge, is robust (impressive fall, water, and dust resistance), and it comes with a Velcro pouch and loop for wearing on a belt. It’s not as cheap as the DeWalt, but for the added features, the price point of $85 felt very fair after a few months use. Anyways, that’s just my two cents on an alternative option like you asked for. Hope you get a chance to check it out. Keep up the content mate. Cheers!

Thanks for that info. I was between the blaze 100 and this dewalt. Wondering if the blaze would’ve been better. Went with dewalt because of the size and I’m using to measure grease hood lengths. But when measuring room volume, sounds like blaze would’ve been better.

Thanks for the review. This is one I'm looking at. I'm also considering the QM1626 20m one. I've noticed some list their range as 0.05m (5cm) to 20m. Any idea what that may mean? For example, if you have a room 3.00m high does that mean it would show it as 2.95m?
