Shame that dewalt has cheapened this planer so much. (They did it to every other tool, so I shouldn't be too shocked suppose?)
@RoCDIY
@RoCDIY Жыл бұрын
DeWalt was the brand I looked forward to getting when I could afford it. Not anymore. I haven't had much luck with any of their tools... table saw, cordless drills, and planer. I think DeWalt designed the planer to crap out when you push it just a little too far. Makes money for them.

@RoC DIY well, look at it this way... Their tools, for the most part, are less expensive now than they were pre-covid. Then look at their sales, and their profit margins skyrocketed and they broke new records every month in overall sales. So, they cheapened their product quality, increased gimmicky hype in new releases, and cut costs. It's the same thing I've seen happen back in the day to Stanley with Craftsman, Black & Decker, etc. It sucks, because Dewalt was great for so long. I guess it happens to all tools eventually. Thank goodness for Makita.... for now. Lol

Is it possible to do a 240 V motor?
@RoCDIY
@RoCDIY 2 жыл бұрын
You can purchase one that is 220-240V. You more than likely can do a conversion, but it would be expensive and it would be more than just the motor that would need to be converted... motor, switch, circuit breaker and possibly all wiring, unless wiring is rated to handle 220V.

Why can't you just buy a replacement motor for DW735 Planer.. Or if you can,, Please tell me where. Rod
@RoCDIY
@RoCDIY 8 ай бұрын
I am guessing you want something you just pull out and drop a new one in. Unfortunately, many people experience motor failure at different levels, so most places are going to sell everything separately. Also, if it's the work you don't want to do to install it, most of the work isn't the motor, it's everything else getting to the motor. Check out toolservicenet.com. You might want to take advantage of DeWalt's rebuild program for $329. It's on the toolservicenet.com website.

Currently dealing with same issue. I have a type 1 though and parts are 497$!!!! Do you happen to know the difference between the two types?
@RoCDIY
@RoCDIY 10 ай бұрын
Made in Taiwan(type 1) or China (type 12). I don't know if they are still being built in these locations. The type 1 has a more robust/heavier Armature. The Field and Motor Casing are larger. Rollers are different. Someone commented that the belt is different, but it isn't. I verified it. Type 1 is 3lbs heavier than type 12. There are other parts that are different, but I would have to look them all up. Where did you look to purchase your parts? Have you checked toolservicenet.com? If in fact all of your parts will cost $497, then you might want to take advantage of DeWalt's rebuild program for $329. It's on the toolservicenet.com website.

FYI, the early units through 2018 at least were Type 1 and were made in Taiwan. Later units are Type 12 and are made in China. There are some reports of better build in Type 1, but info is pretty thin. This might explain why Type 1 specific parts are more expensive, even though they are probably all ‘equivalent’ in terms of nominal specs and dimensions.
@RoCDIY
@RoCDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for commenting. I saw the same info posted on Reddit awhile ago. There seems to be more to it. There is a huge price difference between type 1 and type 12 parts. I also read that there are size differences between the type 1 and type 12, specifically the armature. Type 1 is smaller than type 12.
@carterscustomrods
@carterscustomrods Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the type 1 was great. The motors didn't bog down so bad. Mine was damaged beyond repair in a fire and the type 12 lasted just 800 linear feet of maple before the motor burnt out. The older type 1 I had rarely strained, I ran thousands and thousands of linear feet through it. Dewalt, after having my type 12 go out, Dewalt swapped it out for me, on the 3rd pass of oak, it started to make a grinding noise. Went through it all again. Dewalt eventually got my money back to me 4 months later. It's sad. I used to use 90% Dewalt. Now, I'm down to 10% Dewalt. Stanley Black and Decker have really 💩 the bed with Dewalt since 2019.

No problem. Thanks for commenting. I don't know where you ordered your parts, but when I ordered the field, it came connected inside the motor housing (casing). I didn't have to worry about connecting the spade connectors to the brushes. Did you order your parts from toolservicenet.com? The only way I think you could do it is with a long set of offset needle nose pliers and a small mirror.

Hey Roc Diy, how did you know your motor was done? I currently have mine torn down to the point where I am about to take the motor off and disassemble it, but I'm not sure if it's just the brushes that maybe need to be replaced?
@RoCDIY
@RoCDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Did you see my other video? Motor Disassembly and Diagnosis (9:32 in video). Mine went from running to suddenly stopping/circuit tripping. Then it went to just a humming sound, then a puff of smoke came out the back right side which led to me disassembling it. The brushes were the first thing I checked and they didn't look any different than new ones. The serration you see on the brushes is normal. You can definitely get to and check your brushes without disassembling the planer. I knew mine was done once I had it completely disassembled. It was off center with metal to metal contact on the armature & field, and pieces of melted plastic inside.

Thank you for your help. My motor was sparking like crazy, I replaced the brushes but it kept sparking. Not sure which parts I really need to replace so I'm doing the armature, bearings, field, and my switch (one of the negative connectors on my switch was totally fried.) I've also had mine less than three years, a little concerning in terms of the quality of the motor. Saw that the bearing comes with two after I already ordered two, guess I'm getting four now haha, the website isn't very descriptive but the prices are good. hopefully I will up and running again soon.

No problem. Glad I can help out when I can. They got me on the bearings too. I now have an extra set as well. Let me know how everything works out. @@fowlerfinefurniture I had no idea there was that much of a price difference between the two types. I'd call DeWalt to verify whether you can put a type 12 armature & field in a type 1 planer. Whether it is a type 1 or 12 may not have anything to do with the armature & field. Then again, it could have everything to do with it since there is a price difference. The bearings are a different part # and price too.
