Just repaired my recip saw (same model) after watching this video, which was helpful. I didn't have any broken blade pieces in mine, the blade locking mechanism wasn't holding blade. Turns out the ball bearing wasn't free to move because it was full of debris and rust. I would suggest standing saw with handle up, in a shallow container of wd 40 or similar cleaner/degreaser overnight. Definitely don't want any of the solvent getting into the armature (as 1 comment stated). Probably be freed up by the morning, save a lot of time instead of taking it apart.

Thank you for this video. You saved me a 45 minute drive to the repair place (maybe two round trips) and whatever work time I would have lost. I wasn’t as quick as you, but you got me through the job.

Thank you for this video. I had a broken spring and a slightly different and corded model, but you saved me a lot of time. Only cost me $11.50 for the spring, with most of that S&H!

Whether it is necessary to tear down the tool is a case-by-case basis I suppose. But I definitely appreciate the instructions on how to tear it down and put it back together if it becomes necessary. Thank you very much for the video!

I had one of these and I never had a problem until I used a very long blade. My assumption was that the extra long blades are slightly thicker, too. I gave up on mine, wish this video had been around back then. I also wish DeWalt had made the blade release lever a little more robust.

My blade broke off leaving NO part to grasp for extraction. I placed in my vice with blade housing pointing downward. Then attached battery, powered up, holding the locking lever open, powered up. Blade fragment fell out. Installed new blade and I was back in business. God gave me this answer after prayer….it just came to me.

Thanks for the video helped me a lot a tip for the viewers the mechanism that goes up and down must be almost in the middle when taking out and on my tool i had to hammer it out because the blade i had inside is a thick one and it was very tight. Thanks again

The blade broke off in my reciprocating saw. I used a thin super magnet to draw it out. I sprayed silicone in as soon as the blade snapped and used the magnet about an hour later when I got home.

if you're going to spray or drip lubricant into the grip, REMEMBER TO POSITION YOUR SAWSZALL POINTING DOWN. the manual is emphatic about NEVER SPRAYING LIQUID INSIDE YOUR TOOL. i did it and shorted out my motor when the oil touched the windings. if you absolutely have to use a liquid, let gravity work FOR you. let it direct the liquid down, away from the motor inside!!!!

When I wanted to change blades I could not get the blade out so I came here and wanted to share what I found. I was ready to tear into it but then looked carefully in the throat of this thing and with a small screwdriver was able to push that pawl farther down and the blade came out. Deep inside I saw a small metal piece which turned out to be a nail which kept the lever on the side to fully push that release pawl down!

I just now saw your comment. I just figured out what to do. Before I read your comment. More people need to see your comment!!!. Saves a lot of time. Than doing like the video says do. I used a center punch. Instead of a screw driver. Seems to work easier than a screw driver. Handyman needs to do another video. Doing what you do!

I FIND that looking carefully, and thinking, saves me a lot of useless struggling that my impatient mind wants to rush right past. brute force is apelike-- and not effective. slow, careful observation does much better.

i see a couple of things you shouldnt have done, here: number one, don't go at your task with brute force. using screwdrivers for leverage can wreck fine machine finishes, add gouges and ruts, and affect the workings of the parts upon reassembly. number two--the way you sprayed wd 40 into the grip risked lertting A LIQUID run down inside the motor. the manual says very clearly to NEVER get liquids of any kind into the motor or inside the tool. i've made that mistake-- and ruined an electric drill motor while i was trying to lubricate moving parts. it shorted out because the oil got into the windings of the motor. number three--wd40 is a lubricant and once you sprayed it into the grip, by logic, you made the blade part that was stuck, slippery--and so pliers would not grab that blade stub!!!! i've done that one, too. four--you ought to have laid out your screws on a sketched diagram to the side of your work, so you would not forget which screws went where, upon reassembly. dont rely on your memory! as you progress deeper into the disassembly, if you knock parts around on your work surface, --which brute force will do--you'll get the screws and parts out of order. the say 'let the tool do the work'. thats true for uisng tools on other tools, too! rather than trying to force your will on the object, proceed more gently. think it through. think first about what damage your application of force might do to your tool, whch can't be undone, once it's comitted. i've learned this the hard way--with regret. if you have to fight the tool, you're doing it wrong. oh, and while you've got the tool disassembled, CLEAN IT. all the dirt inside, from use, adds friction and wear. if you have it exposed, take the time to clean it back like new, with solvents, not force. when you reassemble it, it will run nicely-- instead of recreating the problem you had to disassemble it to fix. yes,, i know, when you're in the middle of a job, you dont want to slow down and dwell on the tool that wont work. but if you pause and take the time to CLEAN WHAT YOU SEE, your tool will perform far better once you reassemble it. OUR IMPATIENCE IS WHAT LEADS TO FAILURE. DONT LET YOUR MIND RUN AHEAD OF YOU. STAY IN THE MOMENT IN FRONT OF YOU, NOT THE FUTURE YOU'RE OBSESSED WITH GETTING TO.

ok, but too many fly by the seat of your pants issues, flip the release tab, grab old bit with a proper size STAIGHT long nose in the indentations provided by Dewalt chuck, just for this....and pulls out with ease.....work smarter.....with less tools and disassembly
