In this video I detail the differences between the recalled rear guard and the new rear guard supplied by DeWalt for the DWS779, DWS780 and the DHS790 Compound Sliding Miter Saws. I also show the removal of the old rear guard and saw blade and then the installation of the new rear guard and saw blade. The saw I am using is a DWS779. If you are unsure if your DeWalt Compound Sliding Miter Saw is part of this recall, please watch the link posted in the video. The video is a short video which explains the DeWalt Recall, and how to tell if your saw is affected by the recall. Hope this video helps you out. Please like and subscribe. Thank you for watching.

I used my saw for nearly two years without having any issues. I only installed the part when I needed to change the blade. If I had realized how stupid easy it was, I woudl have probably done it earlier.

This is crazy...a few months back i was using my miter saw, and sure enough, it shot wood across my garage. This has happened a few times. Thought it was something I did/was doing and this last time really shook me up for a while. Pretty lucky I did not get hit during the 3 or 4 times it has happened to me. Now today I was randomly looking at the LED light to put on it, and I come across this recall video. I had no idea. Thank you. This could have ended pretty bad for me!

Why is Homedepot allowed to sell me a recalled saw? Wouldn't they be liable if someone was injured by the defective saw?

That is a great question but I do not know. I do know I bought a truck a couple of years ago and was able to drive it off the lot knowing there was recalls on it. Im really not sure how the recall laws work.

SAFETY WARNING!!! Hey carpenters - head's up!!!! Saws that are marked with the little green or black dot that are supposed to indicate that the saw has been officially "inspected" and marked as good-to-go by DeWalt's safety experts may STILL have the faulty part installed. I know this because I bought a saw from Lowe's back in Feb 2022 (6 months after DeWalt's recall) that I MADE ABSOLUTELY SURE had the safety inspection dots marked on both the saw arm and next to the serial number before I left the store with it. I'd heard about the recall so it was important to me that the saw had been officially refurbished by DeWalt and marked as safe. I used my miter saw regularly until early June 2023 when, while I was using the saw on a jobsite, there was a sudden explosion in my face scaring the living daylights out of me. I thought for sure I'd be bleeding from somewhere and began checking my body for blood/ holes. Although I found sharp plastic shrapnel all around the worksite I was miraculously unscathed. I couldn't believe that even THE NEW part that DeWalt had installed to replace the old one was STILL defective! "Boy their engineers really screwed this one up" I thought. I tried to report it to DeWalt via phone and their website and could only get through to their robot customer support. One of the robots took down my serial number and mailing address. In the following couple weeks while I was considering returning the saw to Lowe's, a replacement part showed up in my mail. It was called a "rear guard assembly". When I was installing the new, metal, replacement rear guard assembly and removing what remained of my old plastic one it was only THEN that I realized that I'd had the old faulty plastic rear guard assembly on the saw ALL ALONG (Again, I didn't even know what the heck a "rear guard assembly" was until all this went down. I'm a woodworker not a miter saw engineer.) The inspectors hadn't ever actually changed out the faulty part before re-shipping out the saw!!!! So buyer beware!!!!
