Mistake #1: tried installing apex with screw on it.. Mistake#2: didn't cinch down the chuck by hand... Mistake number 3: pulling spade bit out with drill in forward mode.. those spade bits have threaded tips lol. For those wondering why we say he doesn't know how to use a drill lmao.

For reals.. he’s lucky he didn’t break his wrist.. id hate to see him use an actual corded hammer drill going into a concrete slab.. he’d let the handle drill him in the head, beyond clumsy.. showing Off your cool new $300 drill isn’t cool when you expect to drill into oak with the clutch on one 🤦🏼♂️.. hope He bought the insurance for that.. 48 hrs into owning it I’m sure it broke dropping it Onto the concrete.. also drilling 30 different 3/4” holes into hardwood will drain the battery, and yes the drill does get warm.......

The lower the setting, the more torque, the higher the speed, the less torque. It's all about gear ratios, if you were driving your vehicle up a steep hill, you would select a lower gear because it would struggle in high. Likewise, if you want to go fast as on motorways, you'd be in high gear, not the first. Use the DeWalt correctly and it will serve you well, overload it and it won't. Just a suggestion...
@treesplease4053Ай бұрын
That's not even a test for the 996, the drill is a monster for an 18 (20)Volt. Really glad to see you using the side handle because that drill is more than capable of breaking a powerful man's wrist. An absolutely fantastic power tool in my humble opinion.

@eginteractive4 жыл бұрын
One of the main reasons the thing is torquing out a lot is that you don't have the workpiece properly secured. Another reason is you're using too much down pressure, which causes the bit to wobble. It bites the wood and doesn't break the chip (like it's supposed to), leading to the "helicopter effect" (with the drill itself or the workpiece). Also, with spade bits you need to retract the bit from time to time to clear away the chips so they don't cause the bit to bind up. I have this same drill, and it does have an insane amount of torque, but it's not a huge problem if you're using it correctly. I understand that it's an "extreme tool test" but most drills will torque out like that if you use them the way you are.

3" T25 fasteners don't impress me. A subcompact drill can do that. By the way, you should have kicked it down into speed one the first time it cut out. That's probably why you destroyed it.

So, can we please have an update there on the ending? Did the drill come back on or did it stop working? I bought a a brand new DCD996 and attempted to drill a 3/4” hole with a 17” auger bit and the drill died on me. I would press the trigger and it would not come on, even with a fresh battery. I returned it, bought another one and the same thing happened: after 5 mins of drilling, the drill died on me. I used it on Speed 2. Did your drill come back on?

@GUILHERME DECARVALHO sorry but the drill did die doing video about it
@Ironbuket4 жыл бұрын
Ive seen other reviews mention them overheating and stopping, but I think it is the battery packs rather than the drill. Slap on a new battery and you should be able to carry on. There are lots of different capacities for the batteries, the larger ones will cope better. Sometimes the batteries that come 'free' with the drills are the cheaper 4Ah ones instead of 5Ah. He mentions it is a 4Ah battery at 1:49 . I’ve seen comparisons of 4AH vs 5Ah and there is a difference in performance on the same drill. It isn’t just about how long they will last before going flat. I skipped through most of the video so didnt catch if he was deliberately using high speed for screws as some kind of test, but normally you would use the lower speed. High speed = less torque and low speed = high torque, as others already mentioned.
@discounttools89404 жыл бұрын
@@Ironbuket i do believe the failure was with the battery not cutting out to give the drill relief. I have done the same test with the Makita hammer drill and the battery protection kept it from overheating. The Dewalt is just to stupid to quit.

Sounds like you should stick with your harbor freight Hercules or Chicago electric NiCad 14v drills then.. I’ve had this same 996 and currently a 999, things a beast when used properly.. hammer drilling is meant for concrete not wood. It used correctly this tool is very powerful and worthwhile.. try the flexvolt 999.. that will blow thru damn near everything assuming you have the right bits
