DeWALT XR Compact Reciprocating Saw IS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED in a good way because what you'll see in this unboxing video is that it has great specs for such a compact recip saw. Let us know your thoughts on this compact reciprocating saw from DeWALT and who makes your favorite in the comments section below.

I own this saw and it's my go to for making large rough cuts quickly. Which makes it great for demolition. Almost nothing beats its size, power, and versatility but... Cuts can cause tearing of the material and repetitive use can be straining due to its weight and vibration. I find myself using a second one handed saw when making many high quality cuts.

I have owned this recip saw for a few years and use it everyday at work doing HVAC rough in and it never skips a beat ... even the rough in plumbers want to use it instead of their Milwaukee ... sorry boys this isn’t a loaner program you have to buy your own .... all in all it’s a great saw with plenty of power ....

I've had the XR Compact for going on two years. It's awesome, I use the piss out of it, and it's never missed a beat. I've used it for cutting cast iron drain pipe my other saws couldn't reach--hint: Diablo makes a carbide blade, works wonders. I've used it for cutting down / trimming smaller trees. I've used it for demoing several projects. I've used it for cutting PVC and EMT. I've used it as an improvised jigsaw. If I could have only one recip, this would be it, because the positives outweigh the negatives massively. A few complaints about it: starting torque / low RPM torque compared to bigger saws is a fair bit lower, so you might have to start a cut at a higher stroke rate than you'd like. It does jiggle you more than bigger heavier saws, and it has a shorter stroke than bigger saws. But hey, it's a compact saw you can basically use in one hand, and it will reach stuff the bigger saws won't--no such thing as a free lunch. It would be nice if the next version had a speed limit control like my Bosh jigsaw. I'd buy version 2.0 all over again if it had that; usually you don't need the wicked max RPMs this little guy will dish out. You can only feed some materials so fast (plastics and metals especially), and constantly modulating the trigger to the precise RPM you need all the time is kind of a PITA.

I have it. Fits into a deep drawer TSTAK box. Fits between studs. Flush cuts. Cuts up, down, left, right, A,B. Easy to carry around. My only gripes are the led could be brighter; no hook; and that the recoil'll beat the shnit out of you even wearing gloves. The most efficient isn't when pushing down. It's when you push the shoe forward to the work and make the blade to the job.

I’ve had my over a year . Was cutting out some old black iron heating pipes in a crawl space . Got it wet . Didn’t want to run . Dried it out then it was fine . Great saw for light use . Vibrates a lot . I’m a plumber so it’s great can get up in a attic and buzz a hole though the roof for a stack easily. A HVAC installed should go with the 60V , ( regesters , returns etc . I wouldn’t buy another compact saw again. Unless you want to have 2 in the truck

Have two Dewalt reciprocating saws, the brushed two handed version and the compact brushless version. Both work great, but that compact version is half the weight of its bigger brother. And it has the same stroke length as the bigger version 1 1/8”. When you have had two shoulders operations and you are reaching over your head to make difficult cuts, that lighter version makes a big difference in your happiness level.Just my two cents worth.

I ordered a makita rafter hook to mount it. Best option for scaling buildings when you need something with enough power to efficiently cut through many treated posts and small enough to hook into your pouches and climb nailers trusses and purlins

The smoothest operation of almost any recip saw is the older Ridgid GenX-4. When I demonstrate Milwaukee Fuel VS Ridgid GenX-4 everyone is shocked by how much quieter, smoother and so much less vibration with the Ridgid. Milwaukee fuel by comparison almost vibrates out of your hands and is so noisy you need hearing protection. With tools the excess noise and vibration is wasted energy, sucking the battery down faster.

We have both in our carpentry shop. Most guys grab the one handed for small tasks but take the heavier for most demo work. When things get real we get the 60volt recipicating saw, that is a monster I put it up against a Rigid 18 volt cutting a car along with the DeWalt 20 volt that 60 ran away from both but I like the balance from the DeWalt 20 for most of the time

As far as powertools go, this was one of the best investments I've made, I continuously find myself using it for pretty much anything that needs cutting, if it were any more versatile you'd have to use it as a sewing machine, pro-tip though, make yourself a lanyard for it. And yeas, I'm thrilled about the fact that it's made in America and not the People's Republic like everything else I seem to own.

It is an amazing saw. Does everything I've demanded and then some. Almost as bada.s as my old corded makita. Still considering the Atomic for plumbing duties though. But for straight up demo work. This saw is close to perfect. The 4 position bladeholder is a gamechanger. Yes it vibrates. A lot. But all powerful recip saws vibrate. I'm good with the vibrations and noiselevels. Performance more than makes up for it.

Bought this saw over a year ago. It was my 2nd dewalt purchase and totally got me hooked. I pull auto parts alot so having something powerful, durable, and quick is a must. This thing fits the bill. I've cut out axles, exhausts, fenders, cut down 8x8 railroad ties and more and she just keeps eating whatever I throw at it. It vibrates and is noisy but that's a small sacrifice to me for it's performance. Side note quality blades are a must it makes even the more lackluster recips a different tool.

I have had a corded recip saw for years now. I'm looking for a smaller cordless; my brain keeps swapping between the Milwaukee for power or the Dewalt for comfort and control. I also have to manage my expectations, my Dad was deep into old school Craftsman (when the power tools were covered by their warranty too). I'm a little into both Milwaukee and Dewalt, it's almost like you can't go wrong. I would be really cool to be able to use them both on the same project for a day just to see which one I would naturally gravitate to.

The one-handed saw is a waste of money. I bought it, used it and returned. I then bought the 20V XR. It’s a beast and I can use it with one hand.

Had all DeWalt 36v tools, probably the best cordless sawzall I’ve ever owned. But they had quite the mileage and I wanted to “upgrade” to something newer and LIGHTER. I sold them and bought the flexvolt stuff. Circ saw was a jump in power but I miss the left sided 7.25 blade. As far as the sawzall was concerned... I HATED THE FLEXVOLT. underpowered compared to the 36v, and would stop multiple times in the middle of a cut for “safety”.... wth is a demo tool worth if it sissies off a difficult cut?? And it could only charge the blade 2 ways, not 4. Anyways.... I sold that at a loss and bought the one in this video! Thing is AWESOME. Lots of vibration... like, lots. But that’s more than a fair trade off for the power, size, and 4 way blade orientation. I now find myself reaching for this thing with a tree limb blade on it before my chainsaw.

I bought the brushed version and I got a 5.0 battery with it. But I’ve always wanted the XR since all of my Dewalts are brushless

Good review. Let me see if I got this right. You got a tool only; no battery, no charger and no blade. Battery and charger ramps the price up considerably, especially the battery. It looks like it will get most jobs done. Swivel blade good idea. Prices I checked for un-refurbished XR version tool generally ranged from $170 (no battery) to $250 (with one battery and charger) free shipping, two day delivery. (maybe); blades still extra, but not a deal breaker. Still looks like a contender. I won't mention my source, but it's easy to figure and I'm not going to do their advertising unless they get out their checkbook.
