Hi Brittany, Thanks for that vid. I am currently using the G5, which is Discontinued here in Australia on 1/3/22. I use the G6 sensor overlays, which I get for free through AMSL. There’s 10 in a pack and easy to use and put on. It doesn’t cover the transmitter, it only keeps the sensor on longer. I will change over to the G6 on Friday 4/3/22, which I’m excited for the change. I’ve been using G5 for two years and have been waiting for the G6 to be Subsidised by the government and Diabetes Australia. Finally I can use the G6 like everyone else has been using for years. Thanks again for the vid, take care 😊🇦🇺

How are the patches compared to skin grip? I’m going to try these out! 💖

In the 2 hr warmup period does the transmitter need to be in range of the Smartphone? I ask because I am a nurse in a residential setting and that makes using my Smartphone (my first preference and a great backup when the device gets lost or broken) tricky.

Have you tried Rockadex patches from Australia, they ship worldwide, we love them and they are hypoallergenic.

Hi Brittany, how well did the patch last? Think it could last the whole 10 days of the sensor with daily showers?

I used the G6 once with the code. I am Type 1 insulin dependent and found the receiver reading 150 while my finger stick showed 80. I preferred the G5 but was told by Dexcom that they would stop making the G5 at the end of July. I don’t trust that information. I was then told that the G6 would act as a G5 if I didn’t put the code in. I haven’t done that yet. Dexcom then told me last week that my account was being transferred to US Med as a supplier. I am a Medicare patient with additional coverage who has used the G4 and G5 for years. I am thin and compliant just brittle. Dexcom provides me with poor customer service. Tech support is great. I keep the G5 & G6 on using Absolute Waterproof tape and cover it with a small plastic snack bag & waterproof tape which keeps the product dry while showering.

A R Diffley-Zipkin I can agree that I liked the G5 better because I was able to keep it on for weeks at a time. I do get a lot of issues with signal loss and what not but I’m thankful it pairs with my insulin pump and helps alleviate risk of high and low blood sugars.

As an update, I started to use the G6 only but without code. My Diabetes Educator pointed this option out so where you see Code, look above it to see no code. She said it then be like the G5 that is no longer an option. It works better for me and I did a number of spot checks to see the reading vs the fingerstick process.. Check with your own Doctor before using it as no Code !! Don’t forget, you will still need to do some calibration (1 daily). , I also use the Dexcom Overpatch which Dexcom will supply G6 users for free. It helps to keep the G6 on. I also use the Absolute Waterproof tape on over it along with a plastic snack bag for showers. No issues with adherence yet. It is easier to change sensors, transmitter when needed. Good Luck . I did see an improvement in my A1C.

I have found that I just go ahead and check my sugars after my initial warm up when replacing my DEXCOM6 with a new sensor, as the numbers can be way off. So I found that if I would calibrate it right away and then check my sugars from time to time if I felt the numbers were a bit “off” I could get tighter control and keep the sensor on for a full 10 days. I have found DEXCOM6 in San Diego to always be of the greatest support if and when my sensors are off by more than 20 points. A quick call and they send out a replacement. I had a new sensor telling me my low was at 43 but I had no sense of being low, so I luckily checked my sugars with my glucose meter and sure enough I was at 190. I admit my sensor had some bleeding upon insertion so I cleaned it with alcohol and waited 10-15 minutes to let it dry. I knew to just calibrate it after the numbers were so off. Once calibrated (no more than 3x’s in a day) and matching my glucometer I was able to wear it the full ten days. I have tried the patches that DEXCOM6 offers as freebies when replacing sensors and I may try this Not Just A Patch, and/or I know Amazon has some good selections. I am a Type 1 Brittle Diabetic who can slip into DKA and end up in the ICU due to having issues with my stomach. I am learning to just do my best with each day. The less I eat and am able to stick to protein drinks and/or smoothies the better I do. Also I keep my carbs between 30-50 carbs per day. So this is a very tricky disorder which is quite puzzling until you find the best solutions for yourself. Over time trust that you will the find the best path for your body. Wishing you the best of luck. Being brittle can be so very exhausting so keep on taking care of yourself. It is so well worth it. I had a lot of abdominal trauma due to an auto accident and it has been a tumultuous ride indeed with lots of complications due to the trauma of my accident which caused my diabetes. So do the best you can and stay safe, and stay healthy!! May you enJOY your holidays!! Sending ☮️ n ❤️ to all as you find ways to enJOY the holidays safely!!

Brittany, I'm having a real hard time getting my G6 to last more than four or five days. Any suggestions. I am on a limited income it gets very expensive to pay that much money and only get half the time. Thank you

Hey Brenda! The patches are great but you're right in the fact that they can be a little pricey over time. What I've found useful is calling Dexcom directly and they offer free Dexcom clear patches to go over your Dexcom which is great! As long as you thoroughly clean the area with alcohol or soap and let it dry, apply a sticky patch, it should hold up just fine. If not, definitely let Dexcom know.

DexCom should send you overpatches free of charge if you ask them I had to for my son. Amazon also has patches called, simpatch, 25 for $17. They last the full sensor period, so 25 patches will last awhile.

I use this device and Dexcom does not suggest the use on ARMS. I know other brands ( Freestyle Libre ) I've used were placed on the back of the arm. Per Dexcom website, only place to use the Dexcom G6 sensors may be inserted on the abdomen (indicated for patients age 2 years and older) or the upper buttocks (ages 2-17 years).

I watched someone else's video and they said as of April 2020, they now state you can use it on the back of the arms, but I have not found this info on their website or instruction sheets, so if you have this info where to find it, please share as others probably only know of the stomach for insertions like myself.

www.dexcom.com/en-GB/faq/where-can-i-insert-my-g6-sensor#:~:text=Dexcom%20G6%20sensors%20may%20be,insertion%20site%20with%20each%20sensor. Where can I insert my G6 sensor? Dexcom G6 sensors may be inserted on the abdomen, the back of the upper arm (indicated for patients age 2 years and older) or the upper buttocks (ages 2-17 years). Sensor placement is important and you will want to change your insertion site with each sensor. Using the same site too often might not allow the skin to heal, causing scarring or skin irritation. Choose a site: At least 3 inches from any insulin pump infusion set or injection site Away from waistbands, scarring, tattoos, irritation, and bones Unlikely to be bumped, pushed, or laid on while sleeping

Not a good video. You leave an important part - you need to STOP THE SENSOR SESSION before you remove the old sensor. As I am new to this and this was my first sensor change, I followed you step by step. The fact that I did not stop the previous sensor session caused confusion and the device to simply sit there with a sensor error. I called Dexcom to get guidance. You might want to modify this video.
