I did the overlap three days ago that someone mentioned how they did it on a Facebook page. I put my new G7 on during the entire 12 hour grace period. When it was time to take the old one off I discarded it and connected to the new G7. The G7 was accurate from the beginning and worked beautifully.

Sounds great. Did the overlapping glucose readings also appear on your app once you started the new one and if so was there differences and if so did that disparate data affect your Clarity data analysis?

I’m about to put my second G7 sensor on during the grace period. What I find funny is that the first one was going to “expire” at 3:41AM but I know for a fact that I put my very first sender on in the afternoon. So yes, the sensor technically lasts 10 days but it subtracts those 12 hours to use as a grace period, making the sensor really only last 9-1/2 days. It SHOULD last 10-1/2 days for what we and others pay for it. And my endocrinologist said I can wear it on my tummy even though I’m an adult. It’s extremely accurate. I can’t use my arms due to flexibility issues and lots of pretty ink. Thank you for explaining the grace period procedure!

I'm gonna love this feature. Of course as soon as the G7 came out my G6 became free in my insurance plan. So it's probably going to cost to move to G7, but this feature makes the G7 have virtually zero warm up and a more flexible change time. Thanks 👍🙂

When you insert in the grace perood the new sensor, overlap, when the 10 days time starts to run? From the moment you inserted? or from the moment you paired with the app?

My son is still new to the G7 and we’re going to try this tonight. I’m just wondering if you still need to calibrate the new sensor. The last sensor or two he’s worn, he’s had to calibrate with finger sticks a couple times,e of times to help the G7 learn him.

Hey Justin, I love your videos and follow you. Can you tell me anything at all about a message I’ve been getting with a couple of the sensors when I change it. It says “this doesn’t match” when I put the sensor code in by taking a picture. It happened with 2 of them today. I was able to keep going back in the app and it said that the sensor was warming up but I never paired it….which it was strange. What is this message? I called Dexcom the last time and they didn’t know what that code was.

Question regarding the early start up of the G7 so you do not have any warm up time without a blood sugar reading. When you inject the G7 and begin its warm up by separating the magnets, does the 10 day life span of the G7 start then? Meaning, if you inject the G7 and then wait 9 hours until the old sensor finally died after its 10 days plus 12 hours, do you still have 10 days plus 12 hours with the new sensor? Or does the new sensor life span begin as soon as its injected or once its 30 minute warm up is over? So in the above scenario, the new sensor would only have about 9 days and 15 hours of life left. Plus the 12 hour grace period at the end.

I have a very practical question. I have just started as a "podder". I noticed in this video that you had your sensor on the back of one arm and your Omnipod 5 on the back of your other arm. They emphasize the "line of site" principle of the placing of the pod to the sensor. You seem to have violated that principle which makes me question how stringent you have to be with placement. I asked my trainer about continuing to put the sensors on the backs of my arms and put the pods on various locations on my abdomen. She said that was violating the "line of site" principle and did not recommend it. I am on my 4th pod now and have it and my sensor on my abdomen. I am very interested in hearing about your or anyone else's experience with positioning of the two structures. Just as an FYI, I am a retired pediatric orthopedic surgeon. Having a medical background certainly helps with the management of my Type II diabetes.

Wife new to G7 so...when stacking them, do you need to "end sensor session" for old one before pairing new one? Or once you pair new sensor, does the old one automatically stop?

Don’t know if you tried this and figured it out but I’m going to change mine tomorrow but stack it tonite. If I recall I do the “replace sensor” but I do go into my Bluetooth and delete the old one there. You can check the Bluetooth label before you start the new one or if you fidget you can check the Bluetooth label with what is one the G7 box. It will be one of them that is on the side of the box. Thats fir my phone; I don’t have to do anything to the G7 receiver. Hope this helps if you didn’t try it yet. ☮️

@@diabe_tech I had to insert my new sensor last night, my first one was inserted by a nurse. I was anxious to get it finished, and I inserted the new one before the grace period ended, and took off the old one after the warm up period. Is there a place where I can delete the old one, or is that necessary since the new one is working?

Before long it will be 4 years since I started on the Medtronic system. I'm probably atypical in that I started on it the day before I turned 55. For the first 20 years I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Several years ago my newer and current endocrinologist changed my diagnosis to type 1 based mostly I think on the low c-peptide test number. I might really be more of what some call a type ONE.5 actually but anywho at the time I just trusted him and figured he knew what my insurance would cover etc. Now I see many saying to leave Medtronic if possible for Dexcom with the omnipod or go back to injections with pens or switch to the Tandem pump etc. Anyone who has really done their homework who has a recommendation... I'm all ears!

Mr. Schitt: my experience only but since you asked! I'm 35 TID for 9 years and I do not restrict my diet. 250 carbs a day, 5-7 alcohol drinks a week. My diet as a diabetic is really to avoid dumb sh!t like drinking a full sugar soft drink or having a big bowl of cereal for breakfast. TLDR: Tandem is the best FDA approved, Loop 3 with dash is best overall. I was on Medtronic for 8 years and have switched to Dex/OP and have tried Tandem as well within the last year. My review based on my results only... Medtronic kept me alive but my results were not ideal (70% Time in Range, high 6s to 7 A1C) Dexcom is lightyears ahead of Guardian sensor. NO CALIBRATIONS NEEDED!! Need I say more? Imagine not taking a testing kit with you everywhere you go (I know I probably should but eh...) Also no awkward beavertail shaped CGM to wear and overtape that actually FITS THE SENSOR! who would have thunk?!? Tandem is GREAT!!! Wonderful pump. With control IQ i slept like a baby it is even more forgiving than I find loop to be with the overnights and me waking up at a very predictably 110-120 BG. Omnipod: My experience is Dash, not OP5. I love the convenience of no tube. When i dress/undress, shower, etc. I feel like a real person and not someone with a medical device pet that is leashed to me wherever I go. With Dash, prob due to poor settings and aggressive corrections, I found that I fought lows more often than I want to . Like 85% TIR but 10% high an 5% low. Just a sucky level of paying attention. Omnipod Dash + Dex with Loop 3: BEST. I have to really stop caring to go under 85% time in range, and my average since starting this combo 3 months ago is 91% TIR 6% high 2% low and

@@katierick8933 Is this Katie or Rick? My numbers are pretty good as far as time in range and A1C but I don't think the system is as "smart" as I was led to believe initially. I don't just set it and forget it let's say. I have experienced some bad lows when I got a little too aggressive trying to maintain non-diabetic glucose numbers. My endocrinologist got me the Baqsimi which is glucagon powder you spray up your nose if you're in trouble. I passed out twice in close to 25 years but again I was diagnosed with type 2 and kept that status for about 20 years. I passed out in a grocery store after being started on the sulfonylurea glyburide which pushes the pancreas to make more insulin. The PCP I had started with committed suicide about 20 years ago. He didn't really take the time to make sure I understood that risk. I had my first ambulance ride to the hospital but was not admitted. That was the wakeup call/slap in the face and I went to the library and got my first book about diabetes. Coming up on my 25 year diaversary and I haven't spent a night in the hospital yet! I appreciate detailed analysis as I don't want to end up experiencing the "grass is always greener on the other side of the fence" scenario. I don't know yet if my insurance will cooperate as I'm told that many of the big companies make deals and have a preferred device/company etc. Obviously the accuracy of the SG number is number one! Could we possibly communicate in greater detail in private with email? I heard for example that some people got their doctor's support and insurance approval and then were on their own trying to find a place that actually had the newest device in stock. I guess you probably know that currently Medtronic sends me my supplies through UPS to my home. I also need to think through the hassle factor like dealing with 2 different companies versus the one etc.

You don't mention which Medtronic system you are on. 530G, 630G, 670G, 770G pumps? Just the Medtronic Guardian CGMS? For me, I was on the Medtronic 670G pump and its Guardian CGMS for about 5 years. WAS. My overall control was sort of, kind of, maybe OK. But most of my problems were self induced. Still are. 3 months ago I switched to the Tandem pump and Dexcom G6 CGMS. Much better and tighter control. The Dexcom G6 is actually accurate and reads my correct blood sugar to use in the pump. The Medtronic Guardian CGMS was very inaccurate so no wonder the Medtronic pump could not keep my blood sugars under control. Garbage in, garbage out scenario. I am about 85% in range, 5% high, 10% low. Most of the lows are due to my own actions. Highs are probably due to me too since I just guess with bolus insulin. Overall Tandem and Dexcom is much better than Medtronic. But I am still the same and make the same errors to override the pump.

@@russellseaton2014 I was started on the 670 3+ years ago and was upgraded to the 770. I got the email about the software upgrade for the pump and a newer better sensor that they are claiming won't need blood tests. I think my Endo is flexible but I'm not sure yet about my insurance etc. My time in range and A1C numbers are good but I do not just set it and forget it. I micromanage. I read Sugar Surfing by Dr Ponder who is both a pediatric Endocrinologist and a T1D for 50+ years. He goes over his techniques for staying ahead of the curve. Frequent glances and regularly course correcting before things get out of control. I have had some bad lows though but that's the price you pay for setting the bar high. I should probably mention again though that I was not diagnosed with type 1 early in life like probably most people on the pumps and CGM's were. I started on the Medtronic system the day before I turned 55. I was on the Freestyle Libre for a while before he suggested a pump. I've passed out twice in close to 25 years with Diabetes but my diagnosis was type 2 at 33.

This used to work fine until I received my new order of sensors a few weeks ago. Now twice in a row when I’ve tried to overlap sensors, the new sensor has failed to pair repeatedly with my iPhone. Only starting over again with a completely new sensor (old expired sensor and failed to pair new sensor both removed) results in a successful pairing. Maybe a coincidence with two bad sensors, but I suspect it might be this overlap procedure causing a problem.

The G7 is a PROBLEM. MARD of 8.1??? I feel lucky if my G7 is within 30 pts of my meter reading. Ive been using the G7 since 10/23 when I gave up my G6 for the "better" G7. No. It isnt. It is a POS. Can you calibrate the G7?? The G7 often rejects my calib. attempt. Why?? No reason given. Maybe it doesnt like the FACT that it is inaccurate. The G7 is "out of range" 50% of the time. I am often within 18 inches of my phone and the sensor is still out of range. BS. Does the G7 work with the INPEN??? Nope. Not. At. All. Does the G7 work anywhere?? Nope. "Only on your upper arm" say the Dexcom tech. support. They told me this is stated on their website. No. It is not. Watch the sensor before you put it on. Ive had 2 sensors that had the needle OUTSIDE of the proper injection location. Both did NOT work. Often, the G7 will go from 130 to 190 to 250 to 320 in less than an hour. I check my meter and BG is 220. WTF?? No idea. G7 usually rejects a recalib. during these temporary insanity periods. There are SO MANY more issues with this POS G7. I am done. Going back to the G6. G7 = worthless POS that Dexcom refuses to fix.
