Pro tip... When removing my dexcom I soak the area, the overpatch etc. with 90% isopropyl Alcohol give it a few minutes and you'll take off the unit WAY faster. Cleaning and prepping the area itself BEFORE insertion i.e I take a paper towel soaked with alcohol and I clean that whole area very well, give it 15 minutes or so to dry off. THEN insertion... the adhesive bonds extremely well. Never tore one off yet.

Great video. I just upgraded from G6 to G7. The receiver could not hold battery power for longer than three hours and the sensor also kept disconnecting. I called Dexcom and they told me to replace the sensor with a new one and they bare sending me a new receiver. Great customer service. Happy to say the new sensor is working and is pretty close to my BGM. I love the new app features and being able to see the readings on my watch is a game changer.

Eugene got his G7 last month and his nurse practicioner applied it the 12th. He is now on day FOUR not taking any shot!! Not insulin. Not Victoza!! He can finally visualize just how his eating habits impact his blood sugar. Now I know his problem has not been my cooking. We'll start exercising once his slipped disc returns to where it should be and I hope both of us can stay healthy for a long time.

I just got the G7 and found your review. Great job. Regarding low readings, I have found with my G6 that when the signal from the sensor is diminished/partially blocked but not completely blocked (giving the signal loss alert), the readings would plummet. I was experimenting with placement and when it was on my stomach with crossed arms or on the back of my arm pressed up against the recliner, with partial contact in both cases, the readings would go low quickly. I found that placement where there was no sensor contact with anything other that clothing eliminated the problem.

I inserted my third G7 tonight and for the first time got a no signal - remove sensor alert. I checked the G7 FB group for tricks to get it to start to no avail. Before inserting it I did notice the filament outside the needle (I didn’t check the first two). After six tries to start, I gave up and inserted a new one. Instant success. With the exception of the failed sensor I am loving the G7 for the reasons stated in this excellent video. I love your social media posts, website, and channel. Thanks!

Just started using g7. Biggest problem was adjusting from using it on my upper arm since I previously used it on my gut. The overpatch was an issue I didn't get that on straight so I ended up putting some tape over it we'll see how that holds up. Based on your comments I think I'll go back to the gut. Thanks for your very informative video.

I’m on my 4th month of G7 and I think it is much better than G6. My readings are very close to finger sticks. I have also experienced the “bumpy” graph recently. I replaced 2 sensors in a row because of this (first after 6 days, the next after 3). For me I think it was bad placement on my arms. I went back to my stomach and it is doing well.

Does anyone find tho that they don’t keep track as much in the G7 app in comparison to when they were using finger prick and contour app? There seems to be more options to make notes etc in contour app as opposed to G7 app or am I missing something. I just recently figured out how to turn off that shrill alarm and just set it to notifications only within the app. Before I was going into my phone settings and turning off the notifications completely which was defeating purpose 🙈 So any other tips would be great 🙏🏻

sorry, couldnt not disagree more. My G6 was GREAT. Very accurate. Very responsive. Very good. My G7?? 100% POS. I feel lucky if it is close to 30 pts near my meter. Usually it skips around. 30, 80, 120, 150 and as much as 190 pts above or below my actual meter reading. That is a "8.1 MARD"??? No. That is garbage. Im not even mentioning all the other issues with the G7 and its odd way of doing (or not) things. All the issues with how their tech. support tells you "that info. is on our website" - WHEN IT IS NOT. I argued with one of their Pakistani reps about this. He refused to believe me. So be it. Dexcom is evidently trying to be worse than Medtronics tech support. Theres a "goal' to shoot for. Sure. I will be returning to the G6. That worked. G7??? POS.

@catherinepfister3882 I generally put it just below my ribs. That keeps it away from waist and bra bands enough that nothing rubs on it. I use a different overpatch that goes completely over the sensor as well, I find the included one just shifts off the patch after a while, but YMMV. I bought a pack of like 55 for 15 bucks on Amazon.

I have worn the G7 since April, my very first sensor fell off within a couple hours. I'm a very hot natured person so I use the overlay patch that comes with the sensor and also a bandage type overlay patch to prevent them from coming off. Last month I was going out my niece's door and hit the frame and ripped out my G7 that I hadn't had on for 24 hours yet. I've also had another one come off within an hour of placement after loading the dishwasher. Dexcom replaced that one and asked if I was wearing it on my dominant arm which I was not and asked what I was doing when it came off. I've had one sensor that lost signal quite a few times and it asked me to put the receiver on the side of my body the G7 was on when I did that it got the signal back. Even after all my issues I still love the G7.

False alarms, scattered data, sensor alerts, user error (according to my supplier) replaced sensor with 140 hrs left. You are spot on about the time of installation and stomach location (better for me there as I tend to use my arms). Also the first 24 hrs is crazy with a new G7. So used to the smooth graphs with G6. Anyway thank you for clarification and confirmation it is much appreciated.

yep. Im getting rid of the G7 asap. I want a CGM that is easy to use and is accurate. I love the G6. The G7 = POS. For example, the G7 is usually 30-50 points off from my meter. I try to recalib. to correct it??? It is 50/50 that it even allows my recalib. It often "discards" my meter reading. Nice. Thanks.

I like your vlog. I am five days into my second G7 Sensor. I have used Dexcom since the G4. I also tried and hated a Medtronic CGM. I have used Medtronic and then Tandem pumps since 2001. Tandem is much better than my four Medtronics. I have been a T1D since January 4, 1980, but who is counting. Complaints: 1) The sensor often loses the connection with my Tandem X2. This is especially prone to happen when I walk outside. The connection with the Dexcom G7 app is more durable than the connection with the t:connect app on my phone. 2) The sensor is prone to falling off. The first sensor fell off when I came out of the shower on the morning of my tenth day. Today I had to apply tape to prevent the sensor from falling off. 3) With my first sensor, I had false lows. This has not been a problem with the second sensor. What I like: The sensor is the transmitter. This is a BIG advantage over earlier Tandem CGMs.

Only real issues I've had is with adhesion. I've used the skin tac and overlay patch and have still managed to knock off the G7 when placed on my upper arms. They also don't seem to like me being in the pool or jacuzzi much either. lol I will try placing them on the abdomen so thank you for that testimony of your experiment. I never really had a G6 come off there so looking forward to trying the G7 in that placement as well.

On day 8, I received numerous Brief Sensor Issue alerts but they all resolved quickly. On day 10 (today), the sensor went crazy with Brief Sensor Issues and I really couldn't trust it. This second sensor warmed in 20 minutes and so far has been spot on with my meter. My wife is a G6'er and the G7 seems to be great with the improved alerts control. After 18 months I left the Libre 2 system and moved to the G7. After several sensors I agree with a number of things in your video- great accuracy except for compression lows and occasional random readings that jump between points making no sense to someone with experience with CGM's. I had a G7 sensor that was so weird acting I replaced it after one day. Dexcom provided a replacement and it may have been location(upper arm). One thing I prefer about the Libre products especially the Libre 3(which I was very impressed with my sample) but Medicare didn't cover at that point so I went with the G7 is the one minute refresh time. I used the FGM of the Libre 2 to make decisions on managing lows(juicing) and high(exercise) and I like the immediate feedback(okay slightly delayed feedback) of the Libre products without having to wait for 5 minutes to see where my level is trending. I use pens for basal and bolus dosing so pump integration is not a concern at this point. I also like the calibration option with the G7 and based on my experience with Libre 2 sensor variability question if the Libre 3 sensor's are all spot on. I prefer the Libre view software to Dexcom's Clarity but that may just be preference. The Libre 3 wins on size as it is tiny. All of the sensors have been good as far as adhesion goes and no issues with removal.

I’ve been wearing G7 since March. Love the warm up time. I know if you place the new sensor while old one is still active the warm up starts then. But then the end time changes and sometimes to middle of the night if I am trying to use the 12 grace period. Not a big deal. Took awhile to find correct placement on my arm. I was getting too many compressions lows. I have learned to be patient when G7 says blood sugar going high rapidly. Today said 169 and rising rapidly. I waited a few minutes and it settled on 123. Annoying. Also if you don’t use an over patch it will fall off. With G6 I just used liquid SkinTac but this area is too small I think. I was using the FSL for awhile and their adhesive was just fine on its own. Not SkinTac and no over patch. A tech at dexcom said they were working on it but probably G6 first. I like the size and warm up. Accuracy is good after first day. And I only use the high alarm and the very low is automatic. Mostly at night when sleeping

Thanks for the update. I have seen the same signal loss issues you have seen. I used both my phone and the G7 receiver at the same time. The Dexcom G7 receiver I found has less signal loss problems than my Iphone with the app. I would use just the G7 receiver but I like being able to share my readings with my wife just incase I have a low BS issue. I am rough on scraping my sensors off, so I use a latex over patch that covers the entire sensor and does not have adhesive in the center. This has worked great for me. Overall I am staying with the G7 over the G6 for the improvements in size and warmup speed.

@@no_matterwhat8401 In order for the sensor to work accurately the tissue must receive enough liquid to read. Dehydration is a serious and exact reason why sensors do not function accurately. It only stands to reason that the contents must be carried to and through the body by water/liquid. Water is the best due to the lack of glucose in water which then does not interfere with the the treatment or the sensor reading. If the skin, on the arm, when perched stays elevated for greater then 1 second, this indicated a dehydrated body. The CGM measure glucose in fluid between cell, not in blood, and certainly it does not make the "finger sticking" obsolete. I am a long time diabetic, and I can guess with acceptable accuracy my sugar levels. I use the finger sticking when the CGM gives me too low or too high numbers with no reasons. The loss of signal is mostly due when the phone is out of range. The transmitter is not meant for intergalactic communications, but only for 20 feet!

I’ve been using the G7 since April. It’s my first CGM. My A1C has been running at about 5.6 since shortly after diagnosis 2 years ago, but that has risen to over 6 since using the CGM. I finally figured out why. Before I started using the meter, I was never aware of the low readings and they balanced out the higher readings. But now the alarm wakes me up several times a week with readings below 60 and at first it scared me and I would have juice or half a banana and my blood sugar would come back up. I now wait for a period of time before doing anything. Sometimes it comes back up on its own an sometimes it needs help. I sure wish there was something I could eat that would bring my sugar down as quickly.

A1c at 5.6????????????????????? Get a new endo. Your Dr. is simply making money on your metformin Rx. My endo said I am doing GREAT with a 6.5 A1c. It sounds to me like your Dr. needs to give up his license. A1c range is 4 - 7. You are in the middle. Who ever told you that you are diabetic??????????? Wow. I was diagnosed with an A1c of 16.9. I have been able to use the good insulins, etc to improve my situation. 5.6?????? I THINK YOU NEED TO WORRY ABOUT HYPOGLYCEMIA.

@@ChrisSims-kf5hq Lol! When I was diagnosed my A1C was over 9. With insulin and diet it came down. And yes, hypoglycemia was a problem. Which is why I was switched from insulin to Ozempic. @@ChrisSims-kf5hq Metformin is one of the cheapest drugs you can take. I doubt my Dr is making money on it. Plush I only took metformin for about a week in the beginning because it made me sick. OTOT, I’m paying a whole lot more for Ozempic and it makes me sick as a dog. But my blood sugar levels stay very steady. I took a test last week in anticipation of tomorrow’s quarterly office visit and the results were posted yesterday. A1C is still 5. I’m happy that the medicine is working like it should, I just wish my body would get used to it. And that it wasn’t so expensive.

@@ChrisSims-kf5hq…When I was diagnosed, my A1C was well over 11 (I had been in diabetic keto acidosis). Yet, my A1C after about 6 months of being diagnosed is 5.8 roughly, sometimes more sometimes less. My bloody sugar is almost always in range, hence such good scores. This isn’t because I’m not diabetic. It’s because I take extensively good care of my BS. Some people are simply better at treating; that’s just how it is.

Thanks for the video. Your work is always most informative. I have never had a temporary signal loss after a couple of months of wearing the G7. However, I've had two sensors fail the day before they were scheduled to expire. Dexcom readily replaced the sensors. I too once put a sensor on the side of the arm and it was a painful insertion and caused much more bleeding than I ever had in the years of wearing the G6 on my abdomen or chest. I once put a G7 sensor on my abdomen and when I lay on it, i experienced pain. I had to sleep on my other side. This never happened with a G6. I wonder of the inserted filament is stiffer or harder than the G6 filament. I plan to place future G7 sensors in the underside of the upper arms or in my abdomen on the side i do not usually sleep on.

It's likely that the sensor probe flexes better in one direction than another. You might try rotating the sensor based on how your skin flexes when you move.

I’ve actually had similar experiences with the G6. Once, it hurt like heck & bled some when I inserted it. Also, occasionally (not often), I can feel the wire under the transmitter. I hope these things won’t happen more with the G 7!

Something came to my attention a week ago that I thought might be helpful to others. I had placed an overlay patch on with the G6, and then that started fraying, so I thought, "Why don't I put a second overlay patch on?" That was a huge mistake: the weight of the second overlay patch on top of the first one pulled off the sensor. So for me, I'll only put one overlay patch on. Two patches had the opposite effect: pulling off the sensor instead of keeping it on.

When I first used the G7, it was at the doctor's office and the nurse placed it on back of my arm. Within a few hours time, it was totally loose. Good thing I saw it or it would have dropped to the floor in public and I may not have noticed it. Since I was not at home to put the G7 on, I did not have a Skin Tac on me to use, which I always do with my CGM's and insulin pump infusion sites. I sweat so much and so easily, that my sites, CGM and infusion, just falls off me, most of the time within the same day or next day I insert them. Even with the skin tac use. I also do not like to use my arms for CGMs. I am glad you just mentioned that the stomach is a viable option as I use my stomach for insulin pump sites but my thighs for the Medtronic CGM. However, I will use my stomach for the G7. Does the G7 have a receiver? If I call Dexcom, they can send me one if there is one? I can keep it in my pocket during my playing times. My phone I cannot. Its too heavy and in the way. As for insurance, the G7 as well as my other supplies I use are covered by my insurance, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. However, a previous glucometer I used as well as Novolog insulin is not covered anymore, so I had to switch to Humalog and another meter. This was a few years ago. My insurance only covers 6 meters now.

Oh no, how annoying. To answer your question, yes you can buy a receiver for Dexcom G7. I think you’ll need a prescription. And you can’t get sensors or receivers directly from Dexcom anymore you’ll have to get them from a medical supply company or your local pharmacy

Since it was my first time using it, I wanted to give it a chance, besides, I probably put it in the wrong spot. :) So I just replaced the sensor and now it's reading what I normally have. Just now trying G7 finally available in Canada and will try on my thigh with same rituals as above as I’m paranoid of the glue. so far so good with accuracy. I have had problems with the G7 staying stuck on the back of my arm and never with the G6 on my stomach. I've also noticed the weird sudden jumps. The warning doesn't warn me of these drastic changes. Sometimes the changes are more than 20 units. As a patient that takes Mounjaro injections, I have lost over 80 pounds. That's great but as an 71 year old that leaves a lot of loose skin on my arms limiting the places that I can place the sensor. I have also heard that Dexcom will only replace for free a defective sensor 4 times per year. They also want to know where you place the sensor. I'm afraid to tell them that I have placed it anywhere other than the back of my arm. I am a medicare patient. That means that my supplier will only send me supplies every 93 days. They send me 9 units that last for 90 days. Medicare expects you to use the extra 12 hours as part of your use time to make up the extra 3 days. I am at 96% intime in range and 79% in time in tight range (70-140). CGM does work. I also have a Garmin vivoactive 4 watch to help.

Have you tried using over patches for your sensor? Skin Grip makes fantastic over patches in both plastic and fabric versions. The plastic ones are like the dressings that hospitals use to hold gauze in place and are better suited for use during colder months. The fabric ones are like the waterproof fabric bandaids that you see in stores and are better suited for use during hotter months due to the fact that they’re breathable. The moisture just evaporates instead of being trapped like it is with a plastic over patch. I couldn’t keep my sensor and pump on if I didn’t use fabric over patches because I work in a warehouse with crappy AC.

Hi Chris, I just got my supplies for the G7. Very different. One thing I DO NOT like about it is the adhesive surface inside is going to be a pain to get to as I do use the adhesive skin prep. I am good at "jerry rigging" things so I could use the cover over my insulin needle OVER the insertion needle of the sensor and "wad" up the skin prep and be care to apply the prep, then take the cover off the needle. I think that is brilliant myself. I did like your video and has helped me with the pros and cons. Well, I will give it a whirl tomorrow when I change my sensor G6 to G7. No guarantees, but if I end up with problem after problem, then I will go back to the G6. Don't know yet. I am 115 lbs soaking wet, so I don't have many places to put the sensor...don't have fat on me!!!! Sounds like others have put on abdomen. I have used on the buttock, BUT worry about putting pressure on the sensor when I sleep like everyone else does. I have a suspicion that Dexcom is going to have to work out the kinks. And the receiver seems to be much cheaper and perhaps not as durable as the G6. Let me know what you think please. Debra

@@DiabetesStrong Yup, the adhesive is prob going to be a struggle, unless I get the Skin Tac I can brush on. The "force" coming out of the sensor holder is also going to be a lot different too vs. G6 is flat again the skin! The overlay is cheap and too small so I will have to construct another overlay on top of it. Just for this "new and improved" device. Already called Dexcom and see my concerns, but nothing they can do. If I don't like it, will get an RX from my PCP to send back to them for the G6. Thanks for responding and your video! Thx - Regarding alerts: I'm not using the G7, but I actually unsoldered the beeper of my pump controller so it won't bother me so loudly any more - vibration is sufficient for me, and that does not wake up the whole house during the night. I hope one day, we will be able to build and fully configure our own pumps - the problem is with dexcom not publishing their communication standards, so we cannot easily write our own software to take in the data in realtime and make therapy decisions on this. Legislators: if you read this, please make it possible for patients to read the encrypted data. There are ways to do this in a privacy preserving manner.

I am still on the G6. With this the values you see on the graph are not the same as the actual reading from the sensor. They use a smoothing algorithm to obtain a smooth curve, which works better for predicting the current trend. You can verify this bu writing down the value as soon as it shows up, and then checking that point every 5 minutes. You will see how it changes with time, I cannot imagine why they would change this for the G7.

Between the 6 and 7, G7 is much more accurate as a rule. BUT, of the last 3 sensors, 1 lasted only 4- 5 days and a message told me to replace. Then, the next sensor didn't attach to my arm. And today, I expect there will be a problem with the one just installed because the (secondary w/green tabs) adhesive did not adhere properly. The G6 was never accurate, results 50 or more points off when I compared to my meters! I have little subcutaneous fat and I know that is a factor. The 7 sometimes needs calibration if more than 25 points off,, but usually they are within 10 points of the meters and if I am within 10 or 15 points I consider it accurate. But a lot of defective sensors. I was definitely doing better with the Accu-Chek drums (easy no strips to handle) but this and the Bayer cartridge were discontinued! I tried POGO and that was a joke, a lot of blood and it never worked. I am hoping the meter that is being developed in Israel will be perfected; I believe it uses lasers like those non-invasive thermometer but as far as I know they are not accurate at this time. FRUSTRATED that I had better options 6 years ago until they took the aforementioned Accu-Chek off the market. But when the 7 works and doesn't need constant calibration it isn't too bad.
