Michael, we don’t get an update for months and then two roll in within a week of each other! 😆 I’m not complaining mind! Seeing your backscene quandary I would stick with the pale blue background, I think the ID backscenes look incredible but can be incredibly difficult to get right as noted by other Modellers when using them. The other point I’d make is that at the minute you have no scenery to take away that stark look of the background but with hills, foliage and trees it will soften a lot. Thanks for the mention in the video too mate. 😉 Paul

Hi Paul, Yep my videos are just like buses, that means my next one will be late haha. I agree on the awkwardness on getting them right, also that they are used on alot of layouts now and I like to try and be a little unique at times. It would also be quicker I think as I'd only need a few bits of hardboard and wood to make supports 🤔 Much to think about. Cheers, Michael

Looking good Michael! Must be amazing to have trains running again! The track is looking awesome and I can't wait to the scenery to start!

Thanks very much. It was indeed a great feeling to have something running properly at last. Still got more track to make eventually... But yes, hopefully scenics at some point this winter

Hi Michael. Great to see running all round your long flowing curves should look fantastic when fully scenic. The track is also very smooth and level so your eaelier worries are now behind you. ...........................John

Thanks John, Yes I'm glad it's all working as intended and I cannot wait to get started on the scenics. I just need to decide what sort of things I want on the layout. Cheers, Michael

Well it's certainly great to see trains running. Track is looking smart, scenics will certainly look brilliant in contrast. ID backscenes are nice for the real print but are a complete pain to fit, self adhesive ones like to unstick or bubble up and can be costly for long runs. I've seen someone use cut out parts of a backscene, buildings etc and stuck them into a backscene board that was painted to look like a sky. It did look good.
@MichaelHenfrey5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tim, Its great to have trains running for sure. I have heard that from a few people regarding ID backscenes and my space isn't exactly the best for a simple fit so yes maybe your right, plain blue and maybe some things printed separately and stuck on combined with the sky blue. Cheers, Michael

Hi, great to see a loco running on your layout. Ref: Back scene. Have you considered taking your own panoramic photos and then sending them away to be printed out onto a back scene. This is what I did for Strathpeffer Spa and you can have them printed to the size you require. Not to mension your back scene will be unique to your layout. Regards Alasdair
@MichaelHenfrey5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Alasdair, Its a relief to have trains running and doing what they should! That's an interesting option for the backscene. It would make it unique. Something to consider. Thanks

Good update, it's annoying having the gaps but you're right - nothing is straight in the attic. I have exactly the same issue
@MichaelHenfrey4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Yes it is a right pain in the backside when trying to work with backscenes and such.. I just ended bodging something together in the end
@HillcotMR4 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelHenfrey I'll probably tape mine with foil tape and then put the back scene on but I'm a way off that yet. Look forward to seeing more!
@MichaelHenfrey4 жыл бұрын
That's not a bad idea, unfortunately some of the gaps I have are quite big, but when filming it shouldn't show so that's the main thing I think.. I'll hopefully have another small update in a few weeks depending if the weather let's me go into the loft without melting!

Hi Michael, I have used ID back scenes all the way around my layout and like you, I have the roof line coming down neat to the base boards so I have used the 9” versions which are cheaper than the 15” versions. Also where I have changed the height of the backscene then I am using scenic breaks to disguise the issue which you could do over where you only have a few inches of back board showing and have that covered with trees or shrubs or maybe a low relief build or your sky blue effect. Just a thought that’s all. It’s coming along nicely though, the track work looks great so far! 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers for now. .......... Graham
@MichaelHenfrey5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Graham. That's a good idea about using the 9" ones on the less deeper parts and the 15" on the other with something in front to hide the transition. I will have to think on this somewhat as I have almost everything if I went for the plain blue sky but the ID backscenes really do add alot to a layout. I saw your Facebook post earlier, was nice to see you temporarily getting the transit van running around. I think the speed of it was bang on too. Awesome stuff. Cheers, Michael
@GrahamFoulston5 жыл бұрын
Michael Henfrey I’m sure that whatever you choose Michael then it will be the correct one and will look great. Thank you for the comment on the Transit, I was pleased when I saw the speed of it and as you say, just right, I was a little worried that it may have been too fast but it was a perfect speed. Cheers for now. ........... Graham

Hi Michael I feel the plain blue is best, it’s what I’m using. You can always hand paint some sections like Lewis at Mouldy Raspberry has done. Ps loved the Sutton going around, best wishes Paul at Sandling Junction .
@MichaelHenfrey5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul, The SLW is a firm favourite of mine, I've even got some nice hoppers for it to haul. I must admit I am leaning more towards the plain blue, it would be alot easier, cheaper and quicker for me. Thanks, Michael

Couple of suggestions. I got the first from looking at Lego City models displayed in the Lego stores. They use vector graphic background. Either you or a graphics wiz might be able to put something you could print out cheaply. 2nd option was to get a local artist to paint it for you mural style. Both these suggestions let you define the scenery type (train yard, industry, city, country, woodland, etc). Nice vid. Good luck.
@MichaelHenfrey5 жыл бұрын
Not a bad idea to be honest, I could use the cheap sky blue background and stick some scenics stuff into that or just add some colours with some paint or something.. Cheers

Plain blue .... then you can always paint on that at a later date ..... 👌...... regards Fred

Hi Michael Sorry Im a bit late commenting Im just catching up... Great to see some trains running, always a nice moment. The sutton 24 is a lovely model and at the moment probably the best sound fitted loco available, justvwish I could afford another. I think your probably as well off going with a blue backscene due to the complex Sizing required, complimented wiith scenics. Cheers Paul
@MichaelHenfrey5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul, It feels good to have trains running around for sure and I agree on the 24 having some of the best sound around atm. Yes the plain blue is winning me over atm as I think I almost have everything I already need to get it at least almost done... A task for the weekend I think. Cheers, Michael

Hi Michael, coming on well, I'm in the same quandy about backscenes, My last layout was just blue sky, thinking this time about a more greyer colour, more in keeping with our skies. i'm in a loft also, so height is an issue. thing about backscenes is you see the same on a lot of layouts. Glynn
@MichaelHenfrey5 жыл бұрын
Hi Glynn, I agree with you on ID backscenes being used everywhere and I suppose it won't help in making a layout feel unique but they do add alot of depth to a layout. Very difficult decision I think. Cheers, Michael
@tonycarrington15 жыл бұрын
U have 3 options in my opinion... u can either leave as is.... or go id backscene and go either just sky or scenic... all depends on what your putting around the edges ie buildings countryside etc as if your gonna put row after row of houses at the back then no need having houses backscene u may aswell have sky as will look my inkeeping so decide what scenes your building and go from there m8 all the best
@MichaelHenfrey5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I think alot of it will be countryside scenics so any would work. I am leaning towards just using a plain blue sky colour. The backscene is something I have been dreading having to do so easier option seems preferable. I have almost everything I need to go with that option so maybe I will give it a go and see how it looks. Cheers
