It seems to me that when someone puts you in a position where you're forced to choose between two people of equal value, you almost always have to let go of the one who forced you to choose. I wonder what would have happened if Deb had been the one to put Dexter in this position.
@jamillajohnson61085 ай бұрын
@@cypherkoro6553 Deb did put Dex in this position with Hannah... Dexter chose Deb and turned Hannah into authorities. He didn't kill her, but instead by turning her in took away 25 years of her life, behind bars. Even though she escaped (that's not the point). Dexter has always chosen Deb.. Whether she asked him too or not... At the end of the day Dexter was choosing Debra.. He showed that time in time again.. be it small stuff or big stuff... He was going to be there for her..
@dillonoickle58414 ай бұрын
@@jamillajohnson6108 yeah he clearly has emotions and such especially in the new series with his kid and through the OG its a wonder if his dad had cracked down and nicely tried to convince him why it was bad to kill people and maybe got him into being a surgeon or something which he clearly is smart enough for if he would have just been a more normal not murdery dude.
@jamillajohnson61084 ай бұрын
@@dillonoickle5841 Maybe, but Dexter was already killing animals.. A lot of them, Harry knew it was only a matter of time for a human... Dexter had told him, he already fantasize about killing a person.. Now not saying Harry could have honed Dexter's impulses towards another field.. But I think from Harry's perspective... it all came from how he was found.... Finding Dexter in that container... He already had questions to Dexter's mental state... Dexter: New Blood... I actually found him to be a lot more selfish towards Harrison than he was on the OG series... While Harrison really wanted to know why he was the way he was... Dexter was too concerned with turning Harrison into him.. Even smiling at the fact Harrison had a "dark passenger" because it meant he wasn't alone.. That is not the Dexter we were use to. He never wanted Harrison around that part of his life. But because of his isolation for so long, he was not thinking about Harrison's needs at all... Dexter is not a good father, not because he doesn't want to be. But because of who he is and what he does.. If the person doesn't fully accept him and what he does. Or they are killers themselves... Dexter has the hardest time connecting to them even on a basic level for long period of time... He can not connect to them, there is a clear distance between them.. Even if they know about what he does... We saw that with Harrison & Deb, because he knows what he does is not right!! He claims he can't help himself, but he doesn't want to stop... He likes it... And that is where the disconnect is... While others see it as helping the innocent, Dexter just likes to kill, and justifies it around helping others... Sooner or later... the person on the other end... See's this.. Harrison saw it and Deb saw it... And both of them made that very comment to him.. "You kill because you like it and don't want to stop" And for those that saw that part of him and didn't have a problem with it like Brian & Hannah he still was disconnected and distant with them. Because, he knows he should kill them due to the rules of the Code... It is a catch 22 when dealing with Dexter.. Yes, he clearly has feelings and cares for those he loves or holds dear.. He's just too selfish to put them first... He was about to abandoned Harrison again... The only one Dexter really put above all was Deb, at the end of the day, he put Deb first.

The only change I would make to the series is dexter starting out as more amateur and gradually becoming better with each kill. Possibly even taking lessons from the big bads of each episode. Like learning how to leave no blood trace from the ice truck killer. And so on. Kind of like megaman who gains the ability of the boss he defeats.
@connorade69699 ай бұрын
It's explained in the show that he has an extensive background in training from his dad and his first few kills were sloppy. When we see him in the show he's already killed numerous people and has had time to get his technique down. I do agree though it would've been neat to see a more amateur Dexter that had to find his way through his "Dark Passenger" alone without help from his dad.
@hhbddjstar9 ай бұрын
The book did go into it. Dexter's first kill was the nurse who killed his foster father. It was super messy cuz he didn't know the in-and-out of the business. His foster dad did show him how to avoid detection from the police, but aside from that he had to learn how to keep his work "clean".
@helpfuljump42609 ай бұрын
It kinda does though. Every time he deviates from the rules he suffered of it but we see he is struggling to be a normal person. He learns to love, care etc. all the human emotions. At the end, he even learns how to control his urges. So his story goes from amateur to professional, not for being a killer but for being a human.

That might have been interesting to have a duo serial killer brothets team.

15:22 There's no way a blood spatter expert would know the difference between a gas chainsaw and an electric chainsaw, so why would Dexter say "this power tool was plugged into a socket"?
@OnceWasSomething11 күн бұрын
It's shown in the actual episode, but it shows that the room was bloodied almost entirely, except for the wall socket where a tool was plugged in.

If he just told Dexter from the start who he was and isn't try to kill her everything would of been fine
@ShaunakDesaiPiano6 ай бұрын
He knew that Dexter had blocked it all out and forgot about him. His killings were part of his stream of personal clues for Dexter to regain his memory. Simply telling Dexter would probably not have worked.

Way off topic though I love Dexter, but at 3:50 they show the back of the truck and there’s no roll up door at all. At 4:00 they show them rolling up a door which doesn’t exist on that truck and showing no latch doors on the sides which the truck at 3:50 has. We called them bloopers in my day. 😂

It looks like that same motel. You know the one. "Motel... motel... motel..." in neon, oops, never mind. It was in a book by William S. Burroughs and became part of my college application. Anyone applying for college, feel free. I got into Barnard AND Bryn Mawr. -- Actually it looks like the sign is painted and says, probably, MOTEL, Ice 5¢. Swimming pool: NO TRESPASSING! Miami Police. Dexter: "Anyone actually live here? Mazuka?" "I don't know, but I think I found an eyeball. Or was that 'Breaking Bad'? I'll let you know, Dexter." 😆
