Lundy figuring out that the Butcher had a law enforcement background is one of the biggest yet most believable and impressive leaps in logic I’ve seen from a character. Rather than make sense of the manifesto, Lundy recognizes its true purpose. Plus it was a great consequence of Dexter’s brazenness and carelessness.

@@rubenoteiza9261 I think it's perfectly reasonable. He recognised that the message contained specifically a lot of signals and hints that would appeal to cops trying to make sense of the mind of their target, but that there didn't actually seem to be a lot of agreement on what those hints *were*; and from that he concluded that the message was written with intent to muddy the waters. From that, you can get three reasons why this points to a Law Enforcement background; one, the suspect *knew* that this tactic would get the sort of confusion reaction they wanted, which means they have some understanding of how cops investigate. Not very much on its own, but combine it with, two, the fact that the suspect seems aware that the cops are getting closer and thus that they needed to throw them off somehow, a major change in their behavioural pattern up to this point. That points to the suspect having contact with the investigation to some degree, either directly or indirectly. Three, and most damningly, the subject knew *exactly* the sort of things to include in the manifesto to elicite that sort of reaction. This points to them thinking in a very similar manner as the investigators, and/or being very well versed in law enforcement experiences. To explain that last one, imagine that, say, you're a construction worker, and you read a novel in which a protagonist constructs a house from scratch. If you're actually intimately familiar with how to actually build houses, whether the AUTHOR of that novel is will likely be immediately apparent; their own level of experience, or lack there-of and their attempt to "fake it". Lundy is here observing the opposite in reverse; he's recognising that the author of the manifesto is familiar enough with a law enforcement mindset that they are able to actively 'forge' a narrative- several, in fact- that appeals to people who also have that mindset. Which means they're probably Law Enforcement themselves.

Yet he didn’t make the link that the Bay Harbor Butcher has a surgical cut on all the cheeks, some of the victims walked due to faulty blood work on an otherwise impeccable record of someone meticulous (as Doakes clearly was not in control of his emotions or surroundings and he would know someone with such compulsive traits craved control, including emotional; even if feigned and regulated to replicate others emotional patterns, still requires comprehensive control of your actions) then of course the biggest tell of all is that there was a blood analyst that was a suspect, and the trophies were literal blood slides. 🤦🏼‍♂️

it was a bit obvious after he grabbed dexter and slammed him into the table. (unironically, i hate the fact they never mention this in the later seasons. It would've been 10/10 of an excuse for dexter to use. "doakes literally stalked me for weeks, then threw me to the ground in front of everyone. honestly he might've made me a victim if he wasn't caught" *this reinforces the already established idea that doakes wasn't in the best mental state, and places dexter as a possible victim (thus separating him from any possibility of being the BHB further)*

The possibilty that few if anyone has considered is that Lundy could have suspected that both Dexter and Doakes were working together and that their feud was only a cover and that they finally fought because one of them panicked and wanted out. That would explain to him why Doakes ran away with the slides. I dont know if serial killers work in teams but for Lundy this looked a lot like a vigilante job so couldnt discard a team of them. That is why he set up Dexter, to see his reaction when he would shove the slides in his face.
@Zegin17
@Zegin17 3 ай бұрын
@@rubenoteiza9261 Some serial killers have worked together in the past, but in those cases they are normally family or something like that; the main issue with that theory, is that Lundy was certain that it was only a single individual, he knew it was only one, so I doubt he would have suspected both Doakes and Dexter, I honestly think his True suspect was Dexter, and he probably also suspected a frame job, but without full proof, no way to convict; I also believe that he was planning to tell Debra before his death in season 4; the show loved to leave things for the audience to solve from time to time.

This is one of those scenes when you can see that Dexter does indeed feel love; his first instinct after seeing a picture of his dead brother, the one he didn’t want to kill but had to, was to look at his sister to see if she was okay. Not his own feelings, his own weird sadness. His sister.
@Eva-ed4ed

@@rubenoteiza9261 I think you don’t understand my point. Dexter feels things, but doesn’t know how to recognise those feelings, and act upon them. He has been basically handicapped in terms of emotional intelligence because he genuinely believed he feels nothing, as his father told him. Dexter was a child with antisocial behaviour who got turned into a killer by his father. He is beyond normalcy because he is stuck in a wrongful understanding of who he is, and has been fucked up beyond recovery. That’s why he often acts as if he doesn’t care, and then when consequences come, he seems distraught or worried. My boy tried to kill himself when Deb died, but took him a 10 minute conversation with Bryan to decide wether he could kill Deb or not. He has emotional blindness.

i mean.. honestly there's tons of moments even in the early seasons that point to dexter never being this "unfeeling killer" that his father inplanted in him. Like when he killed someone and showed it to harry, wanting to make him proud. imo if dexter got some actual therapy instead of being brought to an actual crime scene (which is mentioned in S8) and being taught some nonsense code about how to manage his "urges to kill" he could've totally been normal. a prime example of this is when the dark defender is shown (an in universe comic book character based on the bay harbor butcher) his first thought was to save his mom and brother. Dexter cares about the people close to him.

@@endless_sands I think this is more of a case of writers always writing bad guys this way because it's understandable to people. People genuinely can't relate to a psychopath, but the writers need the readers to relate to characters and those writers also don't understand psychopaths themselves. So they create a vision that they understand for others, one built on misconceptions and tropes, one that doesn't actually construct a real person but a vehicle to produce the same impressions a real person could've produced.

The repeat from dexter, questioning, the sigh of relief right after. The way they stand in a circle literally around him and he's the only one sitting. This was a semi-final test by Lundy to put Dexter in a semi-ambiguous situation to see if he crumbles. No proof, but suspicion. The way he says "Dexter, it'll keep Doakes at bay." I always felt like they should have found the Bay Harbor Butcher bodies later in the series. It would have been so awesome if every body they pulled up was a callback to a previous episode that the audience had seen and maybe even had a little flashback or Dexter doing an internal monolouge saying their name and remembering what they had done. It also would have allowed for Doakes and Dexter to play their cat and mouse game longer which was my favorite part of the show.

That was useless as evidence. First, the slides had been found in Doakes' car which at that moment had framed himself already by becoming a fugitive and anyway Dexter could have easily taken care of it: "Of course my FPs are all over! They are MY slides, I work with them! And every time I receive a batch I take them one by one and I inspect them closely to verify they are in good condition! Doakes stole them before I could use them" And that would have ended there.,

Potentially. I thought Dexter was pretty oblivious to be neatly organizing his forensic tools to a compulsive degree when he was with Lundy in the train car AS Lundy was profiling how the BHB was someone who was extremely careful and meticulous. There was more to that scene that helps your opinion. I’m not sure I believe Lundy knew, or if he was like Dexter in the sense that if there wasn’t clear evidence others had found on their own, he wasn’t going to divert the investigation towards Dexter if that’s who he suspected. He looked disappointed when Doakes turned up dead because I think in his heart of hearts he didn’t think Doakes was him, but Dexter. But the evidence pointed to Doakes and he wasn’t going to fight it.

@@Arto343434 Lundy simply, imo, did not have it in him to 'go rogue' with his theories by setting his sights on someone like Dexter and then simply not acting on it. Without the music, Dexter's narration or foreknowledge that Dexter was the BHB, those scenes probably look fairly normal, and we'd buy Lundy's explanation that he simply didn't like Masuka at face value. Lundy was thorough, insightful and intelligent but strictly by-the-book. If he suspected Dexter, it would have been laughably easy to get a GPS tap on Dexter's phone to figure out his comings and goings and pick up that he was in the Everglades at the cabin, and he never would have entertained a relationship with Debra. COULD he have looked the other way and helped LaGuerta get her evidence through and buried the phone call she had with Doakes? Yes, easily. But he is GENUINELY frustrated that she screwed up a chance to get potentially exonerating evidence for Doakes into the system. And sadly, eventually, the only legitimate evidence LaGuerta COULD provide came from a deeply unreliable source, and Doakes was never able to tell anyone his side of the story. The only one who could come to his defense was LaGuerta, and he gave her no information to work with. And despite his reservations due to LaGuerta's inadmissible evidence, he accepts the conclusion that Doakes was the BHB because, as he says, "The evidence is compelling. Overwhelming, in fact." And he simply, by the book, accepts the verdict and moves on with his life, chalking it up as a case where there was something he missed.

The detectives can't get anything out of him longer than a yes or a no. Absolute tragedy what he did to her. They still don't know exactly why he did it but suspect it's cause she was moving out soon. Although, he was no Dexter. When they searched his room they found just mountains of evidence against him. He even had videos on his computer of him hiding and filming Lauren in her apartment the night he killed her so he wasn't getting out of anything.
