Swords and Stitches is probably one of my favourite things ever. I honestly think it needs more views,i honestly didnt think it was doing to badly. but it'd be nice to have a teaser video or something to know what kinda fandom your doing that week and release the teaser the week before? like get everyone hyped about it i like that its you and aaron, i think that bringing in a guest would complicate things a little more you'd have to know what their boundaries are or what kinda thing they'd like to do. unless its a CraftTuber like idk Thread Banger or something then they'd be all in. and you'll have a laugh and if its putting a hole in your pocket then id say sell/auction some of the things you made (if your buying bulk in supplies make a tonne of them) that way you can put a little bit back in your pocket. i really hope you dont stop doing it.

You could downsize Swords and Stitches so it's just in like your living room if need be. I also agree with HuddleWaddle, it needs a set time like every 2 weeks or once every month on a set day, you could record 2 episodes in the same day and save the other to save time if you need to. I really love Swords and Stitches like so much! I think you should do I tried too, but not together. If you are spending lots on buying materials for making the things you make you could sell the product off to us viewers at a bit of a higher price than you bought it all for. These ideas all combined mean you get to keep the show, give people a reason to be excited and a time to be excited for and you get a bit bigger of a profit for your hard work. I'd love to buy some of the things on Swords and Stitches. Yes, I could make them myself by following the process shown in your videos, but it is nice to have something someone you admire has made. It's a good way to get the most out of your efforts :) whatever you do good luck!

Funny, I didn't find your discussion about money boring at all. Reminds me that I need to do some financial planning! As for Swords and Stitches - I reallllly love how you've been uploading your streams where you do crafts. I'm in a different time zone, so I often miss the actual streams, but one thing I love to do is listen to coffeh, etc, and crochet! I've done it several times to the uploaded craft streams as well.

Ooooh combining S&S with "I Tried"s seems really interesting! I do like the format of S&S currently, but I would definitely be for seeing it transform into something new especially if it would get it a bigger viewership which it definitely deserves. I like the smaller projects during craft streams though, they're entertaining and relaxing and I actually always end up learning how to do something which I can't say for a lot of DIY types of things.

I love tuning in for the little slivers of your life you share. My only problem with Swords & Stitches is I never missed an episode when it was 20 minutes in your living room but when you switched to an hour or two I just didn't have the bandwidth to watch anymore.

Don't feel bad about a Patreon. The point of it is to get funding for something directly from people that want it, when it's something the mainstream usual sources of revenue won't/can't properly fund. Niche shows don't do as well ad-wise. I think adjusting your expectations of S&S to a more reasonable size (mostly small/mid-range projects with an occasional large project for shits and giggles that maybe then you get a guest on for to attract higher views), crowdfunding it, and then making it "seasonal" as in - you have a season run of S&S, so you have a definite start and end date of its run, giving you a) a goal, b) free time to stretch out material/plan/idea gathering and just refresh enthusiasm which prevents burn out and skipping a show here and there, which leads to show demise and c) a schedule for the fans.

I was thinking S&S might not have been doing too well. I absolutely love the show and I think the move towards something that's easier to do was a good one. I guess my only suggestion besides the special guest idea would be to go on places like tumblr or pinterest and see if there are any trends going on at them time. If there's particular things that just pop up like crazy, that could mean there's also a lot of people potentially looking up how-to videos. I really hope this helps and I hope you figure out how to keep S&S around. It's super fun :)

I think it might be a good idea to combine S&S and I Tried, cause it will bring more diversity to the show and maybe that would bring up the views? But it also might not be doing well cause it's not really consistent anymore. When you brought it back, you had a set schedule and we all knew when to look forward to it. But now, that schedule isn't there anymore. I would also like to remind you that if you are still enjoying S&S, to keep doing it, BUT it doesn't have to be a huge production. You don't have to rent out the studio for *every* project. You've shown us with your craft streams that you're able to do majority of the projects from your home. I would suggest only renting the studio for those big projects like the wood-burning one. I don't know... I'm just trying to throw out some insight that makes sense, lol

I agree with everything HuddleWaddle said. You may be putting money into it now, but it can really turn into something huge. Just takes time. One of the first episodes I've ever watched of any of your shows (besides seeing you on Huskys shows) was the S&S episode doing the Skyrim coasters. I took that idea and have currently turned it into a $70k business on ebay (by the end of this month, I should clear $80k in sales). You motivated me to do something on my spare time besides play video games all night. I work on my business 2hrs a day and clear more money than most people do in their entire day job (including myself!). So again, thank you and please don't stop Swords and Stitches.

My main issue with S&S is that it's a huge commitment to watch, for not much pay-off (at least, that's my feeling). I really liked it's original incarnation, where it's a list of things you need, here are the steps, here is the final product, all made into a 5-8 minute video. It had a Nerdy Nummies feel, where it's fun and concise, while still being informative.

I think Swords and Stitches is a good show with a ton of potential, but it's not very consistent. People need to know when to expect it, and if you make it more often it could grow more quickly. You spend a lot of money on production costs, too, between rent, materials and sending it out to edit. I feel like if you made a lot of cheaper, consistent ones in order to grow the fan base of it, and then you'd be able to do the show of your dreams someday. You're the only one doing this so the market is all yours, but it takes time to build it.

I think that's a good start. While the sword and stiches stuff is awesome (and it is) a lot of it is outside of what most of us can manage at home. I would start off with lots of smaller (and cheaper for Dodger) projects. Things that are a little more accessible. God knows I want a monster hunter table, but from a small apartment that's a little out of league :)

I'm inclined to disagree, they need to have an interesting idea in order to make an episode, otherwise there will be a lot of episodes that are just some random thing thrown together just so they can get an episode out.

Moola I can see your point. Seeing Dodger doing EXTREME CRAFTING would be cool, because it would be exciting to see her build a desk or a plane or whatever, but it's probably way more expensive and has to be edited more since they're longer projects. I don't think small projects are less interesting either if they have a lot of heart put into them, especially if I feel like I can do it myself. MAYBE ONE DAY?

My advice Dodger is to downsize. Move out of LA back to Oregan or an area that is more small business friendly than California. 90 percent of what you do I think can be done out of LA. Your rent will be cut but 2/3rds, your state taxes will be cut by half or if not all depending on your state. You don't have anything to worry about when it comes to money and your future. Your personality and talent will create anything and everything that you want. I just hate to see you stressed like this. Life is too short.

Regarding S&S...I mean I still watch them every time an episode comes out, whether or not I go and try it myself afterwards. So maybe the approach is not necessarily that the projects need to be easier for us viewers to make (because the views don't depend on that), but that the projects need to be easier for YOU, Dooger, to come up with. And that involves the whole production & editing process. I really enjoy how the videos are put together, but I would be fine with a simpler layout as well. As other people in the comments have mentioned, maybe you could just take a step back to a simpler production and this way have new S&S videos out more frequently. I'm sure everybody would be fine with that. (But don't get me wrong in regards of the "difficulty level", I think we all can agree that stuff like the MH table are cool, but at some point we do want to be able to try what you show us ourselves and therefore the projects should be, you know, accessible as well. ;) )

For Sword & Stitches, i think it is not a bad idea to to include the small crafting projects within the "I tried", and you'll still be teaching us by teaching yourself. However as you love crafting big projects and as it is really fun to watch you do it you could keep the sword & stitches as a seasonal thing (like once or twice a year when your budget allows for it), maybe with a guest as an exceptional treat for your viewers. Crafting youtube channels are very different from entertainement channels and it is hard to mix the 2 but i'm sure you'll find a solution.

I think you should do the Patreon for Swords and Stitches. It's a niche show, yes, but there's an audience for it and production values for it are higher so the Patreon would make sense. Plus the money from the Patreon could potentially lead to some larger projects. I think you should at least consider it more, or have a community vote on it.

My father always told me. Take a percentage out of each paycheck and put it aside as an emergency fund. For me, its 25 percent of every paycheck. It isn't much considering my current job, but it still helps with paying for car payments and the like. Shop around before buying stuff. Instead of going to a grocery store to buy canned goods or bread, head to a dollar store/bargain store, they usually sell it for much cheaper

Have you ever considered slipping between the bigger and smaller swords and stitches. Kinda like combining the large format you use now and the smaller one you use to have? That way if you wanted to do something simple you could do something like perler bead art or loom knitting and talk with a friend that way it theoretically be "Swords , Stitches and coffee With" kinda thing. When the creative need arises that you want to do a bit project you can still do those to. Also the I tried could be done with friends as well

You should consider setting up a third channel for Swords & Stitches, I Tried and related content. Pressheart is gaming, dexbonus is vlogging and then whatever the new channel would be for DIY and crafts. Obviously, there's crossover audience between all of these, but honestly, I think that a lot of people who might be interested in watching a Dark Souls lets play aren't the same people who are interested in learning how to make earrings. They need to be promoted and marketed differently to different kinds of people. And the new channel needs a schedule, just like your other channels have. I know when I'm going to get the next let's play or coffeh, but honestly, I have no idea when I'm going to see another craft project.

About swords and stitches.. i personally have loved both incarnations of the show. I liked it when it was just you in your living room doing small affordable easy to do stuff and i have loved seeing you do the bigger more intense more expensive projects as well. so how about something in between. Maybe do the smaller crafts more frequently.. the ones that require less expensive, more easily attainable supplies.. the ones that more viewers could actually attempt because it's more accessible to try it out. Then limit yourself to just a few of the more expensive and bigger projects.. like maybe 2 or 3 a year or something that you can break down into multiple episodes. And a perfect way to incorporate the I Tried aspect of it would be maybe to set up a schedule and trade off. like say you wanted some sort of S&S content up once every two weeks. you could do a normal craft one week.. then the next scheduled content could be an i tried. or two normal episodes for every i tried... with the bigger projects taking place of the smaller ones when they come up. I've seen this trade off schedule work for other people and i think it's a good solution for your issue too.. that way you don't have to have so many clean put together craft projects done so often to keep to the schedule.. because i tried is more of lets see where this goes kind of thing you don't have to worry about having a polished product at the end so it less stressful.

If you could find a way to have the show just be a series of projects that are inexpensive to make, I think that it would also help you a lot. Also, guests would be nice occasionally, and I agree that they would probably also boost the views of the videos.

W2TF is the show that has seemed all over the place, and it's something cool or something I can skip (not a big deal). S&S is mostly a miss for me because "crafting" is further from the "gaming world" stuff I tend to follow. But then, my reason for following you has been more about "quirky confidence" and... the human side of gaming? This, News, and W2TF make a 3-legged stool. Anime, gameplay, and S&S are basically one leg each of 3 different stools. I think what might work best is a kind of rocking chair, with gameplay as one side, and combine anime with S&S into something that compliments.. something that works with the same audience. Personally, I think "the voices" you give characters is a key aspect, so perhaps anime puppet shows? That's a thing, right? Hmm, take to the next level, you could create your own series, sort of like South Park, but for Manga.

The s&s with the desk was great. It might just be that it has to continue at the same level of craftliness(?) for a while. Having a few different types of things and then switching to mostly craft streams that could have been a s&s instead I don't feel helped much? The point I think I'm trying to make is that don't most shows work when they're at a set time each week? maybe go a few months like that, before saying if it's working or not? Level of craftiness = production/cost kind of. Like the desk was great but you didn't want to do too many big things because some people can't spend too much time/money on craft stuff, so it was a bit out of reach for them. Then again, didn't some people make their own versions of the desk, which looked really cool? If it's going to be a youtube thing maybe treat it like a mini TV show and have it like fortnightly or something. I think that would be good (to be spoken in a voice like someone who isn't that sure, cause they aren't an expert on youtube stuff). Or is it just going to be a stream type thing now? then you may as well just keep doing the things that you've been doing on twitch and that's not a bad thing either. I don't see many of your streams cause they're during the day (when I'm working) for Aussies. So edits of them going on youtube are good. A constant pace of output of something for a few months would be better before saying it isn't working. Maybe it needs its own channel? a crafty channel put everything on it, and let it breath for a few months and maybe it'll become something better. It'll be easier to judge then. I hate to bring this up, I'm only saying it cause it's an example of what I think could be done with s&s as well, but... nerdy nummies: about 4 times a month, it's like a TV show, a constant level of cookingness(?) (I don't know I haven't seen it for a bit, but it started out like that). (feel free to throw things at me because of my suggestions) Either way, remember that it is your choice. Sometimes other peoples ideas just muddy up the water and make it more confusing. You should just do what feels best to you.

Before I clicked the video I read "thinking of children" then the topic was about having children and it just made me laugh because after I realized that wasn't the topic, but it actually was If dodger has a baby I think he/she would be adorable! I'd totally move near her and be her personal babysitter

Watching you become a parent would probably be amongst the strangest feelings - but on the other hand if I had a person like you as a parent I probably wouldn't have been as screwed I the head as I am. Oh well. And please keep another game going after Sherlock because I can't stand dandy' but love watching you play other more "serious" things like Sherlock :)

About the Swords & Stitches situation : I love that show but if you think you're losing money with it just let it go, I mean just put it aside for a while until you're sure your financials are sure for that show to come back You didn't talk about the fancy dinner with the garlic situation =( I know it's not simple but keep improving the thing that gave you more money and that's it

Y'all saying that who's pregnant is either Erin, Holly or Angi. And completely forgot about Jeannie! Also i totally agree with had been said. If Swords & Stitches were more consistent people would show more attention to it. And the idea of mixing "I tried" with S&S is actually a good one. "I tried cooking an egg in a homemade solar panel". I would watch that! =D

Lots happened this Year with a lot of the youtubers I watch. Just a short time back iamchiib had a baby and Panser got married recently also. Anthony from Smosh recently broke up with his girlfriend of 4 years and now former fiancée Kalel. Charles and Ali Trippy also broke up. Not to mention the big announcement at the start of this year that Dodger has a boyfriend.

S&S is a cool show though, I'm not a crafts person myself, but the production value in that is really cool, might be the actual reason I watch it.

I don't think that needing a patreon means there's something wrong with the show, just that the premium for it will be higher. It's content that cannot be covered by the ad revenue, and that's ok. There are many things you could do on the channel that aren't cost effective because of the limiting factor of the ad revenue. Patreon just allows things to survive based on community demand rather than purely ad revenue.

Looking at S&S in the current situation, it is really a hard to run show. Takes a lot of time, need a lot of ideas, I guess Dodger have to pay a lot for the craft space too? Production quality is actually pretty good (means money too). Oh man.

Swords & Stitches needs to be scheduled. The only reason I found your channel were those videos. Please do not stop making it just schedule it so people can expect it and they don't miss it. Do the same with the S&S streams, release a schedule a week in advance and talk about it in your other videos like "Stay tuned this day and time for a S&S stream on my twitch channel!". Promote the living shit out of it, because it's one of the best,if not the best, nerdy DIY shows on youtube.

aww Dodger, you got dis. One day you will own that 4 bedroom house and the future of S&S will be figured out. Sucks that S&S isn't doing too well though, I really like that show. If it does end it shall spiritually live on in craft streams!! since the two are quite similar. Oh dude, I get cat hair ALL OVER my carpet and sometimes is a pain in the butt to get off the carpet. I have a black/light brown cat and a light brown/white cat and they both shed so bad. Yeah, you're right. No one's gonna believe you when you are actually pregnant. It's totally gonna be the boy who cried wolf all over again.

I fundamently disagree with the patrion comment, patrion is DESIGNED for shows that can't make it on viewership alone, but have people willing to pay to see it. So a show that is of interest to too little people, as might be S&S cause of production costs, can be made. Although a regular update scheme of even small things with the occasional bigger project, also repeat projects aren't bad, see how many cupcake/cake recipes Rosanna does on her nerdy nummies.

You should make Swords and Stitches a DIY knick knack type show. Cheap materials/ household items made into geek-culture memorabilia. That way it's more approachable to you and the audience.

In my opinion, (btw im sorta new here so I'm basing it off my own views towards it as a person who doesn't know anything) The thing about swords and stitches is that it seems to be like a small segment in your channel where it's put there as a hobby or something. And from what I've seen from a few of the videos, it also needs a lot of different materials and expensive equipment that most of us don't or wont ever use after the craft. (sorry if anything there is incorrect or I dont know about).

I really love swordsandstitches but I understand that it's financially draining. Maybe look into selling certain things you make on etsy or something, if they're not something you use a lot. I hope you find a way to keep it going, even if that means combining it with I tried.

given the cost that comes with making S&S, i don't think it's unreasonable to go the patreon route for it, especially if you still want to rent the studio / do big projects.
