Almost all of those maps were played and they were fun. You are rating them as if they are 5v5 CS2 competitive maps, yet they were 16v16 rankless maps with ability to hop in and out anytime during the match. They were great at what they were designed to. I like to watch your videos, but sometimes its laughable to listen to.

Then why didn't vanilla servers play on them if they were fun? I would have loved to play on them but to this day almost all vanilla servers run dust2 or the other few maps everyone knows to death.

Yes, CS 1.6, CSS, CSCZ and so on are great games, but most of the players dont play it anymore and new players dont tends to go and dig up the gems of the past, while they rather surf on the wave of the newly released mediocre games. Those games are basically on life support nowadays. If there are vanilla servers, owners tends to bet on the safe cards that are the most popular. Lets compare it to Miss Universe, there are 10 great girls, but safe bet are top 3. But back when the old CS games were alive as CSGo / 2 is now, all of the maps had their place, not to mention that those games were played often via LAN, outside of the public servers. Well, still are via Hamachi. Those maps were not bad, they are just left abandoned due of the lack of player base. Also, you missed logical faults on the maps, for example on airstrip, there are hangars with Cessna airplane, but there is nowhere a runway to take off, or land c:

​@@alexisvongermania8870 In my experience even before the current decline community servers are always first and foremost for casual fun yet these maps were almost never present, at the end of the day there is a reason for that. Imo a map needs to be balanced and simple in order to be fun, I never consider "competitive viability". And like I said in the video if you had fun with them be it childhood/friends/LANs great, I've been there too.

CS:S's version of Chateau was used heavily in Gmod from what I can remember playing back in the day, specifically the Stop it Slender and Murder gamemodes.

I can't say about online servers, but on LAN I remember Estate, Militia, Backalley, Prodigy and Survivor being very popular and often requested. Airstrip was novel when the LAN house updated to 1.6, but was dropped pretty quickly.

I feel the only truly "unfixable" maps from 1.6 are cs_747 and cs_backalley. The rest can definitely be improved with a remake that makes them shorter (specially airstrip and storm), adds minor changes(survivor, chateau and torn) and full remakes that keep the feeling of the map (havana, militia)

de_survivor is great for zombie mods due to its layout and spooky atmosphere, especially when set at night in complete darkness. Also cs_havana, despite having photo-realistic graphics, ironically has "stairs" which are just a slope with stair texture on it.

As someone who played heavily during the beta days I can attest that we played the hell out of Millitia/Estate/Seige, and you are right the fantasy was defending this fort against invaders and a lot of people liked that kind of gameplay (Assault is the king of that) Estate was especially fast and hectic, I remember vividly one session where the CTs were owning us really bad, and they started being complacent and just charge the front door carelessly, so I bought an auto-shotty and jumped from the little balcony and turned to the front door killing like 8 CTs in an instant, fun memories! :D

This. All of them were played. Some of course less than others, but they were played Online and Offline at LAN parties especially. They only fell out of favour with the birth and rise of e-sports before it was called as such. In the beginnings of that, even cs_ maps were still played competitively.

Funny because i played ALL of these maps and i just loved them. I dunno, it's just sth with the old aesthetics of cs1.6 that made me love these maps and got me a good gameplay experience. I've never played cs1.6 competitively, it was just for fun and spray and pray. Too bad i wasn't alive at the time :/. I'm 18 now and I found out ab all valve games like 4 years ago. Interesting fact: cs_siege originally was a Team Fortress Classic map for Hunted gamemode called "Canyon Hunt" made by the same mapper It looks pretty much identical, except with some minor cosmetic changes

While it didn't really make it in later revisions of the game, de_prodigy had a bit of the same fate as aztec where it was one of the more played maps in the early days and was played quite a bit on the competitive scene early on (though maybe to a little lesser extent than aztec) but ended up falling out of favour once later versions came around. They weren't made to compete. They were made to have fun. Narrative, atmosphere outweighted streamlined deisgn. What was the U-turn for? It was there because the author decided it was cool. These old maps are "unfixable" because there is nothing to fix. Same way you can't fix Mona Lisa you can't fix cs_747. It was someone's vision. Altering it will kill it, not "fix" it.

Did you know that cs_office have more changed layouts and one of the stuff on that map is unbalanced,just blame the blast door,thankfully it was only on BETA 7.1 cause during the 1.0 version,they update the map to look balanced but they removed some corridors and they cut off the suspicous vent into a door

Having lived through it, I can assure you militia was always more popular than... estate? I don't even remember the name for sure having heard it just minutes ago. Hell, we even played CAL matches on cs_militia. That said, I see what you mean about the threats from every direction, not just the front and back yards. It's more similar to that pair of CSGO operation maps with all the fog and multiple spawn points.

Militia was amazing when it came out alongside CT/T leaders and unfortunately the super broken P90. If you want broken, just look at facility, but it was still hella fun and played all the time.
