Great classic: 1. The Investigation's side is cool. 2. the atmosphere is always scary/weird. 3. Carnby is so badass. 4. The story treats about demons and otherworld without looking ridiculous. 5. Apollo Yao This seems so te another more improves version. If I'm right the PS2 version of the game came first. in that version there was a slight pause if you switch perspectives and the loading screens took a while to render, also the graphics were low quality to compared to this one.

Unfortunately the PC version does suffer from some sound issues, most notably the music is lower quality than all other versions. I recommend the Dreamcast version, visuals are almost identical to the PC release.

The story and the skript are not in the slightest excellent. There are plot holes everywhere and the game can't go on for 10 minutes without contradicting itself. Literally nothing makes sense. Thats what happen when you re-write 80% of the game a few months before release.

This game has some absolutely genius sound design. Take the first encounter with an enemy at 11:20. The music goes dead quiet during the fight, then picks back up with new intensity afterwards to give this "oh shit, I'm encountering dangerous things now" vibe to the player.

@Black lodge they have different scenarios like RE4 with Separate Ways but I advice you to play first Carnby. It's a very good game,maybe lose the sharm near the end but worth the play. You have to look around all the rooms because items are 80% of the time hidden and try to not miss shots and avoid enemies when you can.Medkit and ammo are very limited in the first half. The bad thing about this game is that you can't run away from most of the enemies like other survival horror games because you get too much damage and maybe you lose all your medkit too early.

Such an amazing game! One of the best survival horror games ever! It's quite challenging as well. Funny that I never found out that you had to push the statue in front of the mirror at 19:45. However, I solved this puzzle later on the game, after I discovered a document depicting Morton's family tree. This revealed that Howard Morton was the last one in the family and since Edward notices that the "marble bust is quite recent", I figured out that the initials must be HM. That's the game's beauty. You can explore so many places and solve puzzles in a different order and even a different way than other people do. A real gem!

Before anything, this game needs a complete reboot that actual tells the original storry correctly as it was intended by the developers at first. This BS storytelling of the game has references in it to things that were cut out already. But they didn't check on that. They even left one cutscene in it that still has the old design from the early trailers (Ailin in coffin). This was actually the build up to something bigger (Chapel, sacrafice) But it all got deleted in the last minute and they replaced it with that whole abkanis-gods-legend bullshit that doesn't even make sense on its own.

The door is one of the many many traces of the original (and then cutted) plot and content that the developers left so carelessly in the final game. There is also a locked door in Jeremy Mortons tomb that you can't open. They even left one of the old cutscenes in the game which still has the old character design which was actually the build up to something bigger. Ever wondered why nothing in this game makes any sense storywise? Because the developers decided to re-write the whole script right before release. They didn't know what was what anymore and and just mushed their new "ideas" together with the few bits and pieces of the old ones. Unfortunatley they don't go together.

On page 31, ( 1:28:50 ) It tells of Richard's father in law, Lord Chalmers, a former aristocrat who fell from grace because of his opium addiction. And if you take a look at the family tree on the last page, ( 1:31:48 ) you can see the name of Richard's wife, Susan Chalmers, along with the dates of her birth and her death. Susan's age when she died, along with the detail that her son, Archibald was born on the same year that she died paints a very tragic and disturbing picture.

Coming back to this, I realize...everything is technically sound. The graphics and their sharpness are well done...the atmosphere is well done...the music is good...the creepy sounds are pretty good...but the writing...the voice acting...the damn character models (just look at how the animation of the 3D model of the person from 7:42 - 8:43 eventually comes cleanly back, like it goes in reverse in sections)...and this the best of the Alone In The Dark games. I really don't know what I thought was so great about this game. It's only pretty good. And the older ones are really just RP material (for people to make fun of) in my opinion. And still, there is something I really like about the story of this one...
